South America » Chile » Biobío » Yungay April 30th 2012

It's been a month since I've updated this. Wow. It doesn't seem like a lot of time, but I've been busy. I hope I can remember it all. To beging, Yesterday I went to Cobquecura. It's a little ocean town about 2 hours away from here. It's really beautiful and you can still see the destruction from the earthquake from 2 years ago. For lunch I had REinton or some odd fish like that, and it was really delicious. My sister joked that it was taking so long because they had to fish it up. After lunch some of us went and walked around the town and the others stayed for desert. I walked around the town, and followed the tsunami evactuation route to the highest point in the town, along which told some bible stories, ... read more

South America » Chile » Biobío » Yungay March 16th 2012

Well, a lot has passed. I've been all around my school, been in classes for almost 2 weeks now, been around to my family's farms, and... well more. First, school. It's rather difficult to continuouslly concentrate, well, because it's in a different language. But I'm able to pay attention for about 30 minutes to an hour. Then I'll be really tired. Maybe it's because it's almost like a job, from 8-5. A little long for my likes, but nothing I can do. And I'm always hungry, but I don't know why, because I certainly eat enough. I've made friends with a lot of people. They all want to help me, and that's great! They love Asados though (bbq's). I still don't know when to get off the bus, but my little sister helps me when piri ... read more

South America » Chile » Santiago Region » Santiago February 25th 2012

I arrived in Santiago roughly 11 hours ago. We had to wait for an hour to get our luggage from the airport, and then another couple hours for other poeple who are going to Chile to arrive. Honestly, if I didn't know where I was, I would say I was in California. It is extremely similar; however is it hot here. Today was a free day, there was nothing we needed to do, so were able to relax finally. however tomorrow is a different story. We took a tour today of a neighboring town they said, it was more like a market, but extremely entertaining. It sort of reminded me of Thailand, the way it was set up and what they had to sell. There were stray animals, even some kittens on the roof. They also ... read more

North America » United States » Florida » Miami February 25th 2012

Well, after 2 grueling plane trips, I made it Miami. A couple days ago. I wasn't gonna pay for internet at the Embassy Suites, besides I was busy with other stuff going on. I had a lot of fun there, I met with the other exchange students going to Chile and Argentina. (Fun fact: Argentina is one of the largest for AFS; either recieving or "exporting"; maybe both) For the people going to Chile we sort of instantly bonded, united by the same fact we were going to the same country. There were only 6 of us also, compared to around 20 going to Argentina. Anyway, it was a lot of fun, and I learned some interesting facts about AFS, and Chile. The Chilean Embassy even came I believe, or the Consulate General. We were able ... read more
