As I'm sure you had noticed, during quite a sobering stay in Phnom Penh and as a result of too much past drinking, I was becoming quite good at staying off the booze. Unfortunately due to the bad weather here at Sihanoukville, I have no choice but to get absolutely twatted every day again! We caught a bus from Phnom Penh to Sihanoukville at around 12.15. It was only a 5 or 6 hour journey. The first thing that struck me was the amount that the scenery changed as we went further south. In the north it was very flat and [View Full Entry]

Decided to go and have a look at some cultural stuff today. We took a trip to the National Museum, then onto the Royal Palace and Silver Pagoda. The National Museum was located in quite a striking building with walls of deep burnt red. You were not allowed to take pictures inside, but to be honest it wasn’t all that impressive. I mean don’t get me wrong, it was filled with some very beautiful and very old statues and historical artifacts, however nothing in there was really all that different to anything we had already seen dotted around various towns and [View Full Entry]

As mentioned, we arranged for a Tuk Tuk driver to take us on a tour of the Killing Fields and S-21, however we also decided to pay a visit to a shooting range. After quite a long journey along very remote and run down track in the middle of the country side we eventually arrived at a large set of metal gates. On the other side we saw a partially covered porch area with a rack on one wall holding M-16’s AK-47’s, Tommy Guns etc. etc. We were greeted by a stern, but friendly Cambodian guy with a hard face. He [View Full Entry]

Well here we are in Phnom Penh. After a 6 hour bus journey at 6am we really weren’t prepared for the riot that greeted us off the bus. Christ I thought Siem Reap was bad! We could hardly get off the bus for the amount of taxi drivers grabbing your arm, trying to get your attention, asking you where you’re from and where you’re going. Whilst battling through the crowd it was literally every man for himself! People grabbing you, pushing from behind, walking in front of you thrusting a laminated card under your nose for whatever guesthouse they are working [View Full Entry]

Cambodia as a country has had a very troubled recent past. The Khmer Rouge wanted to reform Cambodia and create basically a brainwashed society that is devoted to it’s ultra-communist beliefs. They dubbed the dawn of this new age as year zero. In order to wipe out any evidence of a pre-Ankar Cambodia they set about destroying anything with any religious or historical value, and slaughtering anyone who had the knowledge to pose a threat to the regime. Doctors, lawyers, military, monks, they even went to the extreme of targeting people who wore glasses! They did not just stop there; they [View Full Entry]

Well hello there all you lovely people, how’s things? Sorry it's been so long since I have written but the internet in Cambodia is absolute shite, very slow and pretty expensive so not a great combination when you're on a budget. I say that but it doesn't stop me from going out and pissing horrendous amounts of money up the wall drinking copious amounts of whiskey! The morning of the 15th June at 8.30am was the time we had to saddle up and catch our bus out of Bangkok all the way across the Cambodian border to Siem Reap. At 10.15am [View Full Entry]

Well there's not really much to report, we've just been literally killing time here waiting for our visas to be processed. The only reason for the bog is just to add some more pictures really. There are some more of the Standing Buddha and temples etc but they're not downladed from the camera yet so you'll have to wait I'm afraid. We have a new addition to our group by the name of Celia. She's one of James' friends from traveling Australia last year. We have been quite polite so far as she has just arrived but I'm sure within the [View Full Entry]

Afternoon all. Well here we are back into the mayhem that is Bangkok. Arrived here on the 2nd June, the main reason being is that we needed to sort out visas for Vietnam and Laos. We were still on Phi Phi for a few days after the last blog so I’ve included a few leftover pictures from there on this blog. Starting today and lasting for the next 4 days is a massive festival in Bangkok to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the King’s coronation. This means that it is incredibly busy with Thais. They are all wearing these yellow t-shirts [View Full Entry]

Well we’ve been on Koh Phi Phi for around a week now and you know what I said about the weather being not too great? Well we’ve had about 4 scorchers in a row now so we’re happy topping up our tans! Phi Phi is really expensive and it’s low season at the moment so I’d hate to think what it would be like in the high season! We ended up finding a room for 4oo baht, and that includes a toilet with a flush AND hot water!! For those of you that don’t know, that is serious luxury over here, [View Full Entry]

Hello again! Well you know that trip back to Koh Tao in order for us to chill out and de-tox a bit? On the day after the full moon party, everyone who was staying at Coral decided to move on to Koh Tao aswell so unfortunately there was no escaping the party lifestyle for another few days! We were staying at Mae Had village which is just south of the main town called Sairee. Sairee is where everybody goes for the parties. It's quite interesting in that there is a party every night, but each night it is at a different [View Full Entry]
