Dear blog, Finally made it to Laos after perhaps the most horrendous bus jouney of my life, but won't bore you with the details now. But Laos has been great so far, and I think I am going to enjoy it if the free tourist leaflet for Vientiane where I am is anything to go by. Here are a few snippets. Roads Laos has 14000 km of road, 80% of which are not asphalted. The network however has been vastly improved, but as far as the rest is concerned its Paris to Dakar without t.v. and camels! Presently very few road maps are available whilst city maps are rare and uniformative. Climate May to october is the rainy season. It does not rain constantly but a raincoat or umberella might be a useful fashion accessory. Road ... read more

Later that day... Have just blown some serious Dong this afternoon, actually I've blown a fair amount since being in Vietnam. Just to clarify for you Blog in case you were wondering, that is the currency of Vietnam, but unfortunately a great source of hilarity too. As well as lots of Long, Hung etc etc I'm sure you can guess the theme of many a happy conversation. Also spotted a cafe called Bang cafe which I thought was genius. Anyway, while I just drag my mind out of the gutter.... So after changing accomodation, we found a lovely little cafe run by a famous Vietnamese Poet called Duy Viet. His house was on a little back alley and was the most peaceful place we had found so far, not a honking horn to be heard ... read more

Under Pressure

Dear Blog, I feel stressed. Have had numerous emails from other people who seem to be reading this blog other than you. I can't believe it. I thought I could trust you not to tell anyone. All this stuff is personal you know, and although it is censored slightly (I mean my mum might even read it one day) its pretty much the jumbling of my mind in type. But anyway, apparently people are on tenterhooks!!! I know how ridiculous, but quite flattering I suppose, so now I feel a certain amount of pressure to write something terribly witty and interesting, which is hard at the best of times, but particularly today in the baking heat, after a 12 hour train journey through which I had to endure a man snoring all night, and now ... read more

Dear Blog, Woke up feeling so excited. I have been dreaming of visiting Vietnam for so many years that I couldn't believe that I was actually going to see it in the flesh. Me and Rachel used to while away many an uneventful night at the Radders pretending to be american commandos whilst cooking up fish and chips for the punters. Ah my mis spent (read sad) youth! Anyway, after a lovely lie in I caught the bus to the airport and endured a terrifying journey through the traffic. I have since come to understand that it is customary to drive like a lunatic in Asia, but at the time it was safer just to shut my eyes. After that the rest of the journey was fine. Checked in with no problems and the flight ... read more

Dearest blog, How I have been pining for thee. If it wasn't for a certain American I would have updated you on my shenanigans long ago, but as it happens I've had far more exciting things to do! So no apologies I'm afraid. But you now have my undivided attention as I am now all alone in Vietnam (sniff sniff), and making the most of being able to sit on the computer for hours on end. Well, I have so much to tell you I don't know where to start. David (previously Dave the American) told me on my arrival to Vietnam, that everyday in Asia is like a week, so in reality I have got about two and a half months to fill you in on. So bear with me, but before I get to ... read more

Dear Blog, Well after a fairly sad fairwell to sydney, I found myself at Bangkok airport at one o'clock the next morning. Had managed to get a bit of kip on the plane, so was feeling fairly good and really excited to be there. Got a taxi into town and checked into a lovely little hotel with a massive bed, cotton sheets, en suite, tv, fridge, bags of crisps etc and had the best nights sleep I have had for about 16 weeks! Woke up the next day full of beans, and afetr a breakfast of scramled eggs on toast, set off to find some less luxurious accomodation. After I had found a new guest house to stay at, I then had to lug my rucksacks from the hotel and was more than regretting having ... read more

Dear Blog, Am sitting in an internet cafe in a small town called Kingston in Victoria on my way from the Grampians to start the great ocean road. Sould be really excited as its one of the things I have been looking forward to for so long, but I feel a bit upset today, just had a strange day yesterday. I set off on my road trip yesterday in such a great mood, everything just seemed good, had just picked up my bright red hire car, had bought some cd's, thinking about the previous few days staying with some lovely relatives and was thinking about the next few weeks coming up in asia and meeting up with Dave etc. Had quite a long drive and was quite tired, and even though most of it was ... read more

Dear Blog, Today is my last day in Oz, and I have another cold. Great. Was woken up several times by a very drunk friend in England who now says she loves me (and this coming from the girl who said I was an animal loving loser!) Think she will have a hangover to be proud of tomorrow. Anyway, to continue, after my succession of trips I was fairly knackered and feeling totally run down, so after a day in Alice just hanging around, I caught a flight to Adelaide which felt like a total luxury after bussing it for the last week or so. Met a cool Czech guy called Martin at the ariport who joined me for a coffee (while he had a glass of wine- at 10.30 in the morning!). Adelaide was really ... read more

Dear Blog, Well it seems apologies are due for my rather depressing entry the other day (21st May). In fact, as one of my 'best' friends put it, I am an 'animal loving loser'. Great, can always count on your nearest and dearest for telling it like it is. Anyway, for those who were concerned, I am back to normal and feeling like an A list celebrity, owing to the fact that I am sporting a new hair do, i.e. straight, and so am swishing it around for all I'm worth. I even put some makeup on, woo! Anyway, I leave Oz on saturday and while on the one hand I feel ready to move on, I've also realised that I've got quite attached to the place, and also it means that I'm onto the ... read more

Dear Blog, After an amazing sleep on a bunk, in a room with no bugs, I had a boring day just doing my washing, going on the internet, catching up on some reading etc. Pure Bliss. In the evening I met up with Michelene again and we went out for tea, and then we checked out a local music festival (which was actually a bit rubbish-dodgy local bands) before heading back to the hostel. The next day, it was back to the early starts ready to begin another 3 day tour from Darwin to Alice Springs. It didn't start out well, as the tour guide was over an hour late to pick us up, and then he just continued to be totally disorganised for the rest of the trip. I was one of the last to ... read more
