We had a great stay at the Renaissance Saigon Riverside Hotel they are really plush appartments huge rooms and very well maintained. The staff are very friendly and helpful and if you want to stay outside the City this is the perfect place. The transport service is superb Boat or by Road the timings are spot on and very realiable. It was soon time to fly back to Hanoi and our worries about using internal flight operator Jetstar were completely unfounded as this flight took off 10 minutes early and so we were in Hanoi early as well. All 3 internal flights were fantastic, and all on time. We had chosen a different hotel this time, the main reason is the other one is a bit of a walk late at night, so this one the ... read more

It was another really hot day on Monday 5th March and so we planned to get the Hovercraft Ferry or Hydrofoil down to Vung Tau, which is about 50 miles away on the River/Sea route. Vung Tau is a coastal town that is being touted as the next big place in Vietnam. The reason for that is that it's location is better than Saigon as a Port and it is of course a Sea Side town, it also has one other important commodity ..... Oil..... and you can see the oil rigs quite clearly from the shore. The Aussies come over to work them, and those that don't go home on their time off, stay in the town. The place also the a pretty lousy reputation because this is the town that Gary Glitter was allowed ... read more

We had a fantastic day around the pool the tempeature is up to 35 degrees and the Sun is burning, so we thought best to have a lazy day in the Appartment Grounds and Swimming Pool and go out in the Evening. Now on our way home the other night we saw a very busy area not that far from us. So thought it might be a good idea to have a walk around there as it would save us having to go all the way into the City. We asked the receptionist to write down the area and instructions for the Taxi driver, not many speak English, in fact hardly any do. The receptionist looked at us a bit strange and said well they don't speak English in this area very well, a slight warning ... read more

Our final day in Hoi An was spent on the beach the temperature had ramped up a notch or two and with no clouds in the sky, the beach seemed to be the best bet. The sand at Cua Dia beach is really clean and white and there are plenty of resturants and our hotel had it's own area with free chairs, toilets, so another bonus that the homestay did not have. The water was fairly wild, you had to take care as there was an under current, and when a massive jelly fish came by, that soon emptied the water for a while. But you could certainly take a dip no problem. On our final evening we went into town again and had a nice meal. Hoi An was just a great place to visit, ... read more

Well as many of you will know one of the reasons for the special holiday was to celebrate our 20th Wedding Anniversay which falls on leap year 29th Feb 2012. We had a few ideas what we wanted to do today and so here is what happened. First we had booked a cooking class just across the road at a very small resturant called the Riverside Garden Resturant which has only been opened a few months. A young vietnamese couple who both used to work in hotel's had worked hard and both had the skills to go into buisness. We were the only 2 on the course and we were going to make 3 dishes and then of course eat them. The cost of the morning was $20 each, so about £13.00, pretty good. We arrived ... read more

First thanks for all your messages we have received them all just writing this a couple of days behind. The distance between Hue and our next Stop Hoi An is only 63 Miles but it still takes 2 hours 20 minutes on the train as it has to up into the mountains and along a pass which looks over the sea, amazing views along the way. You can also go by car, but we have seen the driving over here and it's not particularly good, in fact it is completely crazy. Its 60 dollars for a private car, or 5 dollars on the train. So opting for the train was not too difficult a choice. The great thing about the trains here is that everyone gets a seat, it might be crowded and difficult to get ... read more

We had quite an early train to catch on Friday 24th Feb for our trip from Dong Hoi to Hue, the weather was about perfect 24 degrees so not too hot. The Sun Spa resort was a great place to stay and we would certainly go back there. I think a good tip if you don't mind a small addition for commision is to book your train tickets though the hotel you are staying in, we did and the tickets turned up a couple of hours later, it would have cost a lot more to get a taxi to go and buy them. I think they added on £1 per ticket so well worth it, the tickets were only £3 each for the 93 mile journey. The train journey went well it was supposed to leave ... read more

Wednesday and it was time to travel to Dong Hoi which is a small city on the coast about 375 miles South. We had checked all the options with a very long overnight coach trip, an overnight train journey or fly an hour and 15 minutes! We choose to fly and got tickets for £30.00 each. Dong Hoi is off the normal tourist route so that is why we wanted to come here to see what it would be like. It is going to be boom town Dong Hoi soon as they have just discovered the Worlds Largest Cave which is about 25 miles away. We arrived at Hanoi Airport and the check in was really easy and were aboard before we knew it and off in the air bang on time. Just over an hour ... read more

We woke up Monday Morning and the Sun was trying to shine and In fact the weather was a lot warmer all day and we could walk around in short sleeves however the locals are still in coats here. It rose to about 19 degrees in the Sun so a very pleasant day for walking around the busy city.We wanted to go to the Hoi Chi Ming’s Meusoleam and that is where King Hoi Chi Ming is on display, against his wishes I might add but the crowds continue to flock to see him, some getting quite distressed about it. The process of going in is supposed to be very strict. unfortunately when we got there, there was a sign saying “Open every day, EXCEPT Monday and Friday, of course it is Monday so we will ... read more

Well when I was researching our trip I found that the travel blogs that had given the weather information and hotel details became really useful information, so we will do that as we go along. That said the flight over last night from Hong Kong was only a few minutes behind schdule. Dragon Air was the name of the Air Line, the aircraft was older but really more comfortable than the long haul flight and as it was only two thirds full there was plenty of room. More food and more free drink, we certainly haven't gone hungry with our 3rd meal in 14 hours flying time. We arrived in Hanoi and a few worries first, our bags were last off, causing a bit of concern, but we think that is probably because they were first ... read more
