| 24th October 2009 Gina M | For all American Banstand fans - From: Back to the Fifties with a Sock Hop! I loved Dick Clark and American Bandstand.... also loved the Fonz.... he has had some great acting gigs since then... hey folks, I just earned a free trip on this website: www.thanksagain.com check it out! |
| 24th October 2009 Pattusa | Hi, Jeff! - From: Back to the Fifties with a Sock Hop! No, not really retired, just not taking less than I feel I deserve. Yeah, first time for me dancing in a while and I sure felt it the next day! Grant's in Florida now but all my other friends are in Dallas and I need to visit before the end of the year. I'll definitely let y'all know when I make it up there. Have another costume for Halloween so I can't leave yet! Say hi to Betty and I'm glad she's doing so well and keeping you in line. Sure you don't want one more little project before retirement? You like working and you know it! Hope the boys and the doggies are doing well too. Miss y'all. |
| 23rd October 2009 Jeff James | Good Time! - From: Back to the Fifties with a Sock Hop! Patt, looks like everyone had a good time. I can't remember the last time I danced. Apparently you are not working. Are you retired? When this current job ends in April 2011 I am going to retire for sure this time! Betty had her left shoulder replaced and is recovering nicely. She is back yelling at me full time. It is so good to hear that after her operation. If you come up this way to see Grant please let me know. Jeff |
| 15th October 2009 Pattusa | Come on to Texas! - From: Dove hunting, gambling and more fun! Be aware that we have hot weather, lots of humidity and mosquitoes as big as your fist and abundant! And some of us (me!) hate cold weather!! It's such a large state that any type of terrain, culture or events can be found. Guess I'm partial to the southeast Texas coast since I keep coming back here. |
| 15th October 2009 Gene Smith | Cool hot rods - From: Dove hunting, gambling and more fun! VERY cool hot rods, and I didn't know Texas had such good hunting. I plan to visit there soon -- I travel a lot and like to book at www.hotels-in.com. It's probably my favorite website. Anyways, definately planning to visit TX soon. Thanx for the post -- gets me thinking about what I want to do on my trip. |
| 18th September 2009 Pattusa | Crocs are safe from me! - From: Belize from a few years ago I can't swim so don't even dip my toes in the waters. Even in the Yucatan! I was terrified on that boat trip that turned out hours longer than the guys promised me. So goes Belize! I knew I wasn't in real danger though because the guys (especially Turner) knew that I would/ could kill them before I died! |
| 18th September 2009 Jeffrey James | Croc Sighting!! - From: Belize from a few years ago Patt, I hope you stay well away from the water! Crocs have been known to go after prey just walking near the water. They also can swim in salt water. I don't thing Belize is for me! Be careful out there. Jeff |
| 8th September 2009 Pattusa | Retired? Who me? - From: Merida in March - Dzibilchaltun No, Jeff. I'm just taking a deserving break between projects and having a lot of fun. Tired of going to projects that overlap without a break. I'll probably be in Dallas during the holidays this year and will see y'all if there's a chance y'all will be in that part of the world. Son's in Florida now so may even go there as well. |
| 8th September 2009 Jeff James | Retired? - From: Dove hunting, gambling and more fun! Patt, are you officially retired? I see that you are having all this fun, which is good, but what about work? I am working on a capital project job at the ExxonMobil Refinery in Joliet, Illinois. I am the ExxonMobil Safety Manager on this job. When this job ends in April 2011, I am going to retire for the last time. I hope to make a trip to Beaumont then and see several people including you. Take care. Jeff |
| 24th June 2009 Pattusa | Dzibilchaltun - From: Merida in March - Dzibilchaltun Right, Randy, and I want to go to all four! George is quite the camera snapper!! |

| 23rd June 2009 Pattusa | Welcome to the blog! - From: We traveled to Merida in March... By all means I'll add you to the blog and you can always email me if you want to opt out. I'm looking for a 4th of July party almost as soon as I get there and can't find anyone that knows whether Buddy's in Progreso is doing that celebration again. The blog has photos of the 2007 Fourth party. I do want to go visit Katie and Jim at the Sandcastle Inn too if I can find a good way to travel there (had my own wheels when I lived there). Still have the white vans (combi ?) going down there? Thanks for joining and especially for enjoying my dribble! |
| 23rd June 2009 Teresa | - From: We traveled to Merida in March... Well it looks like you sure had some fun! When you come back in July and have time, get up with us in Chelem. It would be fun to get together! There is just nothing like the Yucatan, we expats at the beach have a wonderful community, I'd like to invite you to join us! If you get a chance sign on as a follower on my blog, I have been stuck at 15 for 2 weeks, I'm starting to get that feeling that nobody loves me! |

| 12th November 2008 Pattusa | Thank you for your comments - From: A Posting For George in Equatorial Guinea I do wish that I had visited while George was there. Now he's returning to the US later this week. He did go hiking with a group and has promised me pictures to post for him. I must say that the article on George's experience there has garnered more 'hits' to my blog than my own! Now I have another friend that left at noon today for Singapore on a job assignment. We'll see if I can't talk him into writing a blog or allow me the opportunity to be his voice in his adventures (althought he has lived there before). And I am once again ready to travel with a job opportunity. Would really prefer going back to the Yucatan but would consider most other areas. Thank you again for your insight. |
| 9th November 2008 marc | beautiful country - From: A Posting For George in Equatorial Guinea EG is a poor country and has it share of problems but the island itself is absolutely beautiful. The island is covered in tropical foliage; the vividness of the green can only be seen to be believed. Tourism is almost non-existent and as a result the locals are not quite sure what to make of one. The real negative is the cost of living is astronomical because almost everything is imported. If you have friends that live on the compound and can accept visitors, I would highly recommend a visit. |
| 25th September 2008 Pattusa | New roofs and blue tarps - From: Hurricane Ike Afterwards - September 24, 2008 Khaki, I certainly hope that they were using the tarps as protection prior to the storm rather than necessity afterwards! Here, there's no laughing, but some of the threatening front yards signs to looters do make me smile. I have that same attitude towards thugs and trashy people. |
| 25th September 2008 Khaki | an after hurricane "funny" - From: Hurricane Ike Afterwards - September 24, 2008 As I drove from Arnaudville to Cecilia on the bayou road this morning, I noticed 2 houses - side by side - that both have brand new roofs. I have been watching as they were put on after Gustav (with a week's break for Ike). But, this morning, I rounded the curve and just died laughing! There they were... Both houses with brand spanking new, tightly wrapped and stapled down "blue tarp" covers on their new roofs... Now that's what I call "hurricane preparedness" !!! LOL |
| 24th September 2008 Pattusa | Some things aren't worth remembering :) - From: Hurricane Ike Afterwards, September 23, 2008 And Happy Birthday to YOU which is TODAY! |
| 24th September 2008 donna | I forgot!! - From: Hurricane Ike Afterwards, September 23, 2008 During this whole mess and worry, I forgot to tell you HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! I Love you..... |
| 23rd September 2008 Pattusa | Brazoria County - From: Hurricane Ike - September 22, 2008 Bless your hearts! A lot of Beaumont still without power too and I left friends in Dallas. My area has had experience in getting things done after a hurricane and have done a really good job. Rita was a learning experience for a lot of companies and people. Your area will be better the next time (wink, wink) with this experience. Y'all have just skirted problems all this time with the big ones. If you are not back to work yet, just wear less clothes! |
| 23rd September 2008 Randy Polak | Brazoria County Checking In - From: Hurricane Ike - September 22, 2008 Hi Pat, et al, Going on 11 days without power, but at least family is all OK. House is ok, a little water damage came down the chimney, lost the patio cover. Oh, and did I mention WE HAVE NO POWER. What the heck, made it through Celia in Corpus in 1970 (2 weeks, no power) Randy |
| 21st September 2008 Pattusa | Paula! - From: Hurricane Ike - Day 1 Home After My Evacuation I'm glad to hear from you. You are in the 'line of fire' with these storms too. My workplace may not really be. I'll know tomorrow, but we'll keep going. You ready to move to the Yucatan next time I go? Enjoy any free time you have in southern Louisiana. I miss you too. |
| 21st September 2008 Paula | So happy for you.. - From: Hurricane Ike - Day 1 Home After My Evacuation Sounds like your damage is nothing compared to others..from what I hear..I have some water damage but not much...I'm a basket case..work doesn't permit me to go home now due to so much to do...I'm just totally devastated due to my whole city being under water...really hard to believe...I'm not online much due to work, but am so glad to hear that you and your place is ok...looks like Meagan will be moving up here to New Orleans with me for a while...her whole place of business was under water...pray that we don't kill each other...LOL...well, I've got to get to work now...Love and miss you much...Paula |
| 21st September 2008 Pattusa | Still intact indeed and very glad - From: Hurricane Ike - Day 1 Home After My Evacuation Kaye, I want to be back in the Yucatan! There I didn't have a yard full of limbs from 156 trees!!!! Boy, am I sore this morning from the exercise that I should get all the time! Shared a bottle of bubbly with neighbor last night. She had half a flute and I had the rest! We really do have reason to celebrate. Poor others do have much more damage. Thanks for keeping all our areas (and those to the north) in your prayers. |
| 21st September 2008 Kaye | Still intact... - From: Hurricane Ike - Day 1 Home After My Evacuation As usual, Patt, you have maintained your sense of humor...good for you. What else can you do, right?? So glad to hear your damage was minimal and we continue to pray for all those affected, in whatever ways. Hang in there! Love ya, Kaye |
| 17th September 2008 Pattusa | Old People and Others - From: Hurricane Ike is in Southeast Texas Yes, Khaki. We in Texas also have our poorer and older populations that are unable or unwilling, for whatever reasons, to evacuate from dangers. Once the younger generations took care of their elderly; some still do; unfortunately, many more simply do not. Communities in my area do try to assist these folks in many ways. One way was a recent activity and that has been a long time public service awareness program to sign up (which is simply telling the officials where you are and that you may need their assistance in the event of an evacation) and enable them to be taken from danger to a safer location at no expense. For this service, I commend them, both those that offer the service, those that worked the services and those that participated in a safe exit and return. |
| 16th September 2008 Khaki | old people - From: Hurricane Ike is in Southeast Texas Patt - nobody here is on TV asking for help. Most of the people in the rural deep south of Louisiana are in advanced age or are very poor... and their "understanding" is not the same as ours. If they come out of here, they will end up on somebody's welfare rolls or in nursing homes. At least here, they can make a garden and feed themselves. They do not get welfare or food stamps because the office for that kind of thing is on the other side of the parish and they've never been that far in their lives. For example, they'll go as far as tiny Grand Couteau (6 miles) but have no clue that just 6 miles farther will take them to Sunset and the 21st century! There are no young ones. They left long ago. Those who are middle age work offshore and spend all their checks supporting elderly parents and either elderly or mentally ill extended family. These people didn't ask for help - but, after Katrina and Rita, government agencies blew through here and told them that help would come. It never did and they have no resources because most are just plain old and poor. They are the forgotten people - pushed out of sight by more flashy places like New Orleans. They aren't "sitting on their asses." They do the best that old people with no resources can do. Its hard to watch. |
| 16th September 2008 Pattusa | Tears? - From: Hurricane Ike is in Southeast Texas I got over the tears after 2005's storms. We in SE Texas didn't sit on our asses for the government to help (except for a few who I don't even consider worthy of considering). We helped ourselves, our neighbors and our communities. I absolutely cringed when I heard Internet radio reports of people on rooftops in my area during this resent hurricane called Ike. Drama! Maybe desperation, but stupid to be there in the first place. Why should I pay for their stupid ways? I won't even know how much Mr. Ike took from me this time until the county lets me return. But I'll repair the damage when I do get to return and not ask the whole world on TV and other venues to feel sorry for me and send relief money. Sorry, Carol. My sympathy energy can be directed elsewhere. |
| 15th September 2008 Khaki | About those tears - From: Hurricane Ike is in Southeast Texas Those tears are still the tears of Katrina and Rita... and now we will add Gustav and Ike... and many of our voices will still break with tears when we are well into advanced age... because help has never come. As I drove in to the grocery store today, I passed houses with the infamous "blue tarp" roofs... and they've been like that not since Ike passed yesterday, but since Katrina and Rita passed three years ago. The only difference is - there are more of them now. I turn my head and don't look - because it makes me cry. |
| 14th September 2008 Pattusa | Pearland, Texas ! - From: Hurricane Ike - I've evacuated Randy, I pray that y'all 'weathered' the storm without too bad of consequence. Let me know. Next time, come to Dallas with me! |
| 12th September 2008 randy polak | brazoria county, pearland tx - From: Hurricane Ike - I've evacuated Pat, We're boarded up, generator is ready, 150 gallons of fuel, enough food for Cox's army. Randy |
| 8th September 2008 Khaki | had to laugh - From: Getting Ready for Ike looked back over your original post and saw "I have divorced for less aggravation." Hilarious - So Have I !!! LOL |
| 8th September 2008 Pattusa | What's important? - From: Getting Ready for Ike Your life is important! To me and all your friends and family. It may not come close to your area, but if it does, you've got my cell number. Meet me at my safe haven, friend. |
| 8th September 2008 Pattusa | Riding it out - From: Getting Ready for Ike Best wishes, girl. Hopefully this one will spare Louisianna altogther. I have to leave here because of safety issues. But will watch everything until the last minute. Let's keep each other closely informed. |
| 8th September 2008 Pattusa | Writer? Me? - From: Getting Ready for Ike Thanks, girl and I miss you bunches. Glad you're happy where you are, but hey! You left me! |
| 7th September 2008 Sandy Winn | - From: Getting Ready for Ike You should be a writer. |
| 7th September 2008 Khaki | Riding it out - From: Getting Ready for Ike At the age of 61, with 28 major hurricanes under my belt, I've long since quit running. After seeing what folks went through on the highways last week, there's no WAY that is LESS dangerous than facing down a hurricane of ANY size! Got my hands on 2 generators, so will stick it out this time too. Hang in there Kiddo - will e-mail and keep you posted. |
| 7th September 2008 Mitch Landry | What's important? - From: Getting Ready for Ike The best "things" in life - really aren't "things" at all. I too am tired of running - I will not do it again. I make a stand here and now. Some storm my very well take my house and my life if that's what's going to happen so be it, but I refuse to part of the scampering mice fleeing from the rising waters again. Best wishes to all, |
| 7th September 2008 Pattusa | Hat's on my head and high heels are packed! - From: Another Hurricane Experience in Texas Got a break long enough to come home and pack for the next one! This is killing our work schedule though! Love you! Hope to see you again soon. Just don't want to be blown THAT far north! |

| 4th September 2008 Guillo | Saludos desde México - From: Return from Gustav Evacuation Es bueno saber que a pesar de las dificultades que has pasado, el huracán no causó ningún daño y te encuentras bien. | 27th August 2008 Khaki | "Hurricane" Fay - From: It's just plain ol' hurricane season While Fay was hitting Florida FOUR times, her outer bands rained on us (in South Louisiana) for almost a week. Even as she went away, we still got what we call 24 inch rains for 2 more days! A 24 inch rain, in Louisiana, is a steady drip in which raindrops are about 24 inches apart... LOL Guarenteed to make your grass grow 12 inches per DAY!!! grrrrrrrrr |
| 5th August 2008 Randy P | Bulls eye - From: Blogging on a hurricane again Looks like you're ground zero again. Hope you're all safe and sound, high and dry. |

| 2nd May 2008 Pattusa | Digital world - From: Hello, Friends! I'm back to talk to y'all! Thanks, friend Mitch! I have looked at digital cameras and they just confuse me as to what I should get. How about me getting a phone with a camera now that I'm not in a plant work situation? Or educate me a little about what to buy. Will you come back to town for the next party I organize??? |
| 30th April 2008 Mitch | It's 2008 the year of the "Digital Camera" - From: Hello, Friends! I'm back to talk to y'all! Com'on lil'sister - it's time for a good digital camera. Spend some of that coin you've been blessed with and "getcha1" No more developing worries - simple, fast and very sweet (not to mention all the "private things" you can do with it. - well unless you actually like the film developer to see what you're doing. :: wiggling eyebrows :: Whatcha say readers - shall we all pitch in and get her a nice camera to present at the next party? |
| 8th February 2008 Jeff James | E.G. are you kidding! - From: A Posting For George in Equatorial Guinea Patt, having been to E.G. about 5 times I can tell you the country is the pitts! Yes the Malabo is the richest area in the country but is is still basically a slum. The pictures do not show the Moskitos(SP?) and the deadly forms of malaria they carry. The country is run my a man who killed his uncle to get the job. Every year he makes the annual list of the 20 worst leaders (dictators) in the world (from NEWSWEEK magazine I believe). Do not put this country on the list of places you want to go! Jeff |
| 6th February 2008 Pattusa | Warm Yucatan! - From: Touching Base with All of You Okay, Ladies: here's the deal. Khaki's in Louisiana and has to come through Texas on her way to the Yucatan. | 12th September 2007 Khaki | Yucatan's police - From: Little Bit of This and That We don’t mind the police in Yucatan because they are always nice to us. The police in the States act like they’re on some TV show - screaming and yelling at even little old grandmothers. I can’t imagine an American policeman taking a lady’s arm and helping her across the street - but they sure do it in Merida. …and people ask us WHY we move to Merida… well DUH!!! |

| 29th August 2007 Mitch Landry | Develop Pictures ?? Huh? - From: Back to Adventures in Merida! It's just too easy to own a digital camera. Perhaps all the faithful followers to your blogging adventures should pitch in and have one waiting - or send via snail mail? Please spend some of the "Gravy Train" funds you've made in "Heaven" and get with the times. It's only a digital camera - It can't take your birthday, just fast and easy pictures for FREE - No waiting - Instant gratification. Ahhh.. how I love those three - AND in that order. |
| 27th August 2007 Jeff James | DEAN - From: Day after Dean passed under Merida Patt, I wasn't able to read your last 10 Blogs until now, so it was like a condensed version! I am so glad that you are ok! It was surprising to hear how the normal Mexicans and the government went about their business in preparing for Dean. We need to have a hurricane party when you get back to the states! Jeff |
| 23rd August 2007 Khaki | electricity - From: Day after Dean passed under Merida 7 hours after Dean hit land, the government of Mexico landed 3,100 electricians with hurricane experience, 300 trucks, 4 helicopters, and a bunch of cranes and other equipment at Chetumal. They cut the power and went to work - with all power expected to be restored for 90,000 homes by day's end. Then, they will simply follow Dean through Mexico, fixing as they go - and as fast as they can. 3 weeks from now, you won't even know it was here. |
| 22nd August 2007 Khaki | BBQ Gar - From: Day Two Anticipating Dean Lake Charles is the home of BBQ Gar. Wrap in foil with sweet & sour BBQ sauce - put in oven overnight @ 200 degrees - takes forever because its tough - but is WAY well worth the wait! Of course, as a "French Creole," I am genetically predisposed to cooking things like this in a hole in the ground... LOL |
| 22nd August 2007 Khaki | post-hurricane activity - From: Day 6 The end of Dean in the Merida area watch and see how fast everything gets fixed. People often wonder why expats sometimes get so angry at the U.S. Its because we see things like this. If Mexico can be prepared, not lose any lives, and fix things immediately after a crisis - what’s wrong with the U.S.? Too many “coordinators” and not enough “get it done NOW.” Too many recovery contracts for their friends and not enough respect for the quality of life for citizens. So - we live in Yucatan and the folks back home continue to believe the propaganda designed to keep them from finding out that “here” is better than “there.” |
| 21st August 2007 Pattusa | Dear Sean - From: Sunday night update Isn't he sweet? And he's in Hong Kong and just went though a weather 'incident'. Thanks, honey. Appreciate the encouragement. |
| 21st August 2007 Pattusa | Pictures - From: Y'all may want me to come home so I'll shut up And here you've been my friend and media mentor and you haven't even been reading me! Geeze, Khaki ! |
| 21st August 2007 Khaki | to die for - From: Y'all may want me to come home so I'll shut up I had no idea you had all these pictures on here!!! can't wait to get there and spend all my hard earned money!!! |
| 21st August 2007 Pattusa | Zydeco - From: Day 5 Part 3 Poor girl ! Billy Poullard, where are you when the masses that don't have your CD need you???? Somebody call him! You can, however Khaki, stream KLVI.com on Sunday morning for the Cajun jamboree and then there is the ragin' cajun show out of BR. Mexico is keeping me from KLVI though. Boo Hoo. Hi, Tee Bruce. Love y'all. |
| 21st August 2007 Pattusa | Yucatan and alcohol - From: Day 5 Anticipating Dean Part 2 Not selling alcohol before a disaster (be it a hurricane or election) does make perfect sense in wanting citizens to make sane choices. I have always voted my candidate regardless of my level of intoxication (or not) and the lack thereof certainly would ruin a good ol' Texas Hurricane Party !!! Or a Louisiana one for that matter! |
| 21st August 2007 Khaki | Zydeco? - From: Day 5 Part 3 Zydeco? Zydeco? Did somebody say "home"??? Help! Louisiana-Yucatan girl trapped in "hinterlands" of Ar-kin-saw! Emergency - Need Zydeco! |
| 21st August 2007 Khaki | Yucatan & alcohol - From: Day 5 Anticipating Dean Part 2 The State of Yucatan has been "off and on" attempting to go "dry" for a hundred years that I know of. Can you believe??? So they do expect good sense where alcohol is concerned. |
| 20th August 2007 Pattusa | Electricity - From: Day 5 Part 1 They haven't cut the power off yet, but will if things get rough. They will not hurt people with down lines and it also protects their equipment. No, US would scream. Here, they understand and appreciate the fact that it makes recovery quicker. |
| 20th August 2007 brenda davis | hang on to ya ass. girl - From: Day 5 Part 1 can't believe they cut off the electricity. my lord, but have to give it to them. not bad idea, can you imagine how much crap we'd catch, iff we did that to our customers? not going there . we are still just waiting, hope our (4) state coverage don't get hit. later Brenda |
| 20th August 2007 Sean | Will be keeping my fingers and toes crossed - From: Sunday night update Hi Patt, Hope everything is ok and Dean doesn't cause too much damage where you are. I'll be keeping my fingers and toes crossed that things turn out well. At least you'll be able to say you've experienced a storm somewhere else and tell us how it compared. Best wishes, Sean |

We've followed you along while you are having the best time of your life, making loads of mula and living a life most of us only dream of.. AND on top of that have shared with us along the way. Princess, all you have to do is simply pick up where you left off and we're right back in the swing of things. The main thing is keep blogging - keep on keeping on is how some would put it. | 6th July 2007 Pattusa | Morning back to you - From: ENTRY RECOVERED You are welcome on the necklace. Sorry I didn't catch up with you while home. Hope Steve becomes 110%! You'll have the bathroom redone in no time now, then you'll move on to another room..! Keep reading and writing! |
| 6th July 2007 redhed bmt tx | morning from Beaumont, Texas - From: ENTRY RECOVERED THANK YOU!!!!!!!! for the lovely shell necklace, you are so thoughtful..... received it 4th of July, ran by Nance's had something in contact lens. needed to clean out, Thank god for good friends. I was at lumber yard and almost blind..hahaha. getting closer on bathroom. will be so glad to get that finished. laid out marble tiles on vanity for Denny to at least start cutting. maybe to God, we can finish. I am getting so tired of my house looking like the city dump. you know I can't stand things not organized. this is REALLY, REALLY GETTING ON MY NERVES..... NEIGHBOR (steve) had a heart sunday night 7/1/07 and my god we thought he wasn't going to make it. doctor said if charlotte had not gotten him there when she did he would have died . when I got to the hospital, with hair wrapped in towel and lord only knows what kind of clothes, he was in the cath lab getting a stint put in. and what's scary, he and I had been to the lumber yard about 3 hours prior to all of this, his wife and family were at the water park in silsbee. I shudder to think what would I have done if he was out with me and all this started. it seems like everytime I get called to come to the hospital, I am either in the shower, or working and look like a freak ha. have a good, good, day , weekend and all the above, much love, Brenda |
| 3rd July 2007 Pattusa | Thanks for the comments! - From: ENTRY RECOVERED I do appreciate your comments and emails. Jeff and Tripper - I don't know if the Yucatan could put up with both of you at the same time, but come on to town! Bring the wives if you have too! I know that they would have a good time and still manage to subdue y'all a little! Debra, you do need to finish your trip! And I enjoyed your note. Thank you. |
| 2nd July 2007 Michael Gragg | Wonderful - From: ENTRY RECOVERED Jeff is right he and I both are envious. Looks like life is treating you well. |
| 2nd July 2007 Debra | Envious 2 - From: ENTRY RECOVERED I enjoy your Yucatan Exploration, I love it there, so much to see and so laid back. I love sitting with my feet in the sand, sipping a margerita and sharing my whole fish with the sweet kitties begging at my feet. Had to laugh at your hurricane comments, though I'm sorry about Rita's damage to your home. Maybe you'll be outa there before the next one. We (5 women) arrived Merida by bus from Chichen itza on Sun pm 09/23/02. Within two hrs Huricane Isadore (cat 3) bore down on us and stalled for hrs. We had checked the weather report--she was going to Tampa, but changed her mind just minutes after we checked her route (see rout map). It was wild. Your nice breezes blew down every tree in site, including 50 ft one outside our flooded room. We were at the Dolores Alba Hotel--great protected courtyard-what was left of it. Owner's Progresso (sometimes cruise ships stop here) Hotel a total loss. Took 2 days to get a ride out, though we offered to pay hundreds of truck owners to drive us (roads were impassable). Though 2 of us were Red Cross disaster trained, we left since there was no relief yet to give & 2 ladies were in their 70's and we were draining the few resources. I hope they have reattached the stucco to the 600 yr old buildings & propt up the trees and power lines. I want to return to finish the tour. Have you seen the flamingos at Celestin (might be wrong season)? If you go to Playa stay at Treetops. Taluum is wonderful. I've eaten at your hotel in Viodolied, nice and shady, but did think they could have made more effort. |
