I completely lost track of my whereabouts. I spent : 3 days in Ko Samet, a small island on the Cambodian side in Thailand, touristy but not too many; a week in the centre east of Thailand, in Buriram farmland, staying with farmers. Then went to Sudokhai for a couple of days, visiting the old city that was the capital of Thailand, cycling through the temples. Back to Chang Rai, then to the Lao border. I have to check notes for anecdotes. Top of the list would be the happiness of children. Most of them smile, wave and say hello. Some of the anecdotes that I had jotted. Mosquitoes 0 - Patrick 20. Or so I hope for the 0. I haven't felt a bite. It's a slaughter. The window by the seat 63, of the 7h15 bus taking me to Than Thon, is covered in flattened mosquitoes. The little buggers must have had a death wish coming here because nobody else on the bus seems to pay attention to them. Maybe I am not Buddhist enough. Only locals and no one speak English. I know it is only a battle. I won't win the war. Maybe bars are expensive. I am paying the same price for a 3 hour journey as I would for a beer. Maybe should drink less and travel more. I thought I would go back to the hotel and write my diary, if not my blog yet, which I intend to do. I spent most of the afternoon on the computer, checking how to add entry to the blog and reading what I had written so far. In the evening I went to the travel agent to check the ticket for Huan Hin. Then I went to a Landmark education last evening of the Forum, where participants invite guests. I arrived late. I thought it would be an interesting comparison with London. The course leader was an Indian Sikh and was with a lady translator on the stage. On average the Thai translation took 4 times longer than the sentences in English. Here is the first account of the travels. day 1 long long flight, stop in Dubai for 3 hours and nothing much to do there. Not slept on the plane either. Left OK this morning, with plenty of time to wait at Heathrow, arriving a 5h30 for a flight at8h50. The taxi ride was fast. I went straight in, no queue, nothing. I had a small breakie and made my cup of tea last. Flight OK, food good, but not one interestingl on the plane, nor at Dubai airport either, nobody much fitting the backpacker's look. Watched a couple of movie, or three, nothing memorable. Same from Dubai to Bangkok. 3 hours at Dubai airport, which is like most other airport, completely artificial and this one mainly empty.
