A Lovely Vicarious Journey How delightfully evocative! We must ask, is the cottage cheese industry booming? We guess that it would have been all over the news about how well Australia did in the Eurovision Song Competition, must be a great to be carried on that wave of world acclaim. P&C
and Culture too Hi Peter & Dianne,
Well apart from the obvious case of extreme jealously we are enjoying following you two Sydney hipsters taking on Manhattan and New York. What a delight and what events to firmly place in the memory of great moments in a wonderful life fully lived. Shame you haven't embraced the supersize food culture completely! We are also getting updates from friends travelling in Spain and the Netherlands, what is it with you cosmopolitian folk?
Have fun folks
Great reading as always Hi Peter and Dianne, great reading your blog as always. Can wait for the next one so I can continue to travel vicariously. My Dad is off to EU next week. But no there will be no blog from him.
Reply from Sydney, Australia Hey P'n D, great that you made it safely and comfortably, and great that Alastair Cooke has arisen from the bar across the road to once again regale us with his excellent observations. When Lib and I were there we were in LES, whoever he might be, and know the Wholefoods store very well - couldn't believe the prices compared to Australia .... but that was 2012 and so a Whole 40% better than where the dollar is now! Not sure if we mentioned the excellent local-ish restaurants we tried - Saxon and Parole, and one deep in LES maybe called Schimmels?? And, of course, the Harry Met Sally deli, Katz, which is on Houston, and which you will leave wishing there had been about 3 kg less pastrami on your rye and speaking with a Jewish-Bronx accent. Looking forward to the next letter, goys!
Woo-hoo! I'm so glad to have the next instalment of your travel journal to entertain and delight! I was only recently wondering when/where your next trip would be, thinking it couldn't be too far away (in timing, not distance). What a surprise to see you in the US of all places.
P.S. 30 years ago is a lifetime for some...
P.P.S. Watch out for those flying elephants
Why do good things pass so quickly? Peter & Di - it has been wonderful travelling with you - you re-awakened all sorts of memories of Paris and Brittany for me! Always enjoy your travels - so sorry it's already over.
Pain de Retour Quel dommage! Mais, if something doesn't end, a new thing cannot begin .... probably not much consolation right now, but looking forward to the stories. Safe trip!
Love,
B and L
Setting the bar on awesomeness Mate, your travel blog is awesome by itself, and I thought it couldn't get more awesome... until you linked that Spinal Tap video! Class!
See Food Hi P and D,
Hmmm .... scallops as chicken nuggets - let's hope Red Rooster doesn't get wind of this. Strange, as I think of it, that the medieval locals had such a great diet yet had hair growing on their feet. Will be checking you on your return, Bilbo and Bilba.
Am looking out the window at Cremorne at a day of incessant rain and 15 degrees ...... can't imagine that Breton-Central hasn't had a few of those, but hopefully not too many.
Keep up chewing and swilling of the Grand Crus - can't wait to hear all about it.
Love,
The Dude
Great blog - thanks for sharing. Looks like you two experienced journeyers are enjoying a well paced adventure. Hope the fun continues in Brittany. Ruth
Sacre Ble! Ciao Amis,
I am booking a direct flight to Pain de Sucre tonight!
And will take in the Palais de Tokyo while I'm there - good to see that the White Rabbit is producing offspring, though it may be a tad disconcerted that it has Japanese genes!
Great to hear that both body and soul are getting a good working over. Hope that Brittany doesn't have any long, sharp wooden sticks waiting for you, and that it is a cultural and culinary pleasure-feast.
See you at the Pain.
Love,
The Dude
Paris in the spring. Well we have had lots of rain here and temperatures have dropped and the pool is too cold to swim in the evenings.
The Aussie dollar has fallen as well so enjoy what may be your last affordable holiday in Europe!
Keep up the eating....sounds wonderful.
Vive la patisserie! Hey P&D
Oh to be a Flâneur in the city of love! (Insert sigh, swoon, wistful glance here). I can only imagine what a genuine Parisian croissant tastes like, what a delight!
My folks are over in gay Paris right now too (their first O/S trip!), so if you see them say "bonjour". In fact, their neighbour is convinced they'll come home pregnant, so can you just check that they're 'being careful' for me? I don't think I could handle being a middle child at this point in my life...
What a gem. And the town sounds like a find too! Wonderful blog Peter. Hope your writing talents find other outlets, very engaging, had me recalling the smell of spanish dust in Cordoba,
Regards
Julies bloke

Buen Viaje a Mexico Hey Chris - Sorry we couldn't make the San Sebastian night @ Emmilou - just had to make do with tapas in san sebastian!! Travel well in mexico and look forward to catching up when we are all back in Sydney. Cheers P&D O'C
And on the foodie theme.... Oh how envious I am!! If you have a chance I would love to know if they still offer a Business Man\'s breakfast menu in cafes, which of course includes a beer. Enjoy...
Despite a very near miss with the title of our blog being correct in 2015, our travels to Italy have morphed into 4 weeks in the USA, some 30 years after the last time we were there. We are told it has changed a bit since then. Let's see.... full info
