1st Aug. Travelled from Mesquite and visited three major places of interest in searing heat (max 113 F). First Las Vegas along the strip, second the Hoover Dam (down under 600 feet of concrete to see the turbines) and lastly the west rim of the Grand Canyon (boy! is it a long way down). Night stop - Williams AZ. Pam and George [View Full Entry]

31st July. Continued on Interstate 15 to Salt Lake City. Walked around the Mormon Temple and gardens in 93degree temps. Went inside the Tabernacle and heard 'three pins drop' (demonstrates the building's acoustics). Had lunch at Wendy's and cruised on south following I15 to night stop just inside Nevada at Mesquite. 30th July. Travelled from Salmon to Tremonton, Utah, today with a slight detour to visit a strange landscape called 'Craters of the Moon'. A area where volcanic eruptions, about every 2000 years, creates lava flow and odd mounds and pinnacles. The surface becomes eroded over time but areas remain where nothing grows. Night stop Tremonton Utah. Pam and George [View Full Entry]

July 28th - Today we left Kimberley and our relatives and continued south to continue our Road Trip. First off we took Val and Mike to the Airport for their flight back to the UK. Then across the border back into the US and south on #95 in Idaho. Scenery of rolling corn fields (wheat I think), passed an Elk Farm. Night stop Moscow, Idaho. Pam and George [View Full Entry]

July 22nd. Left Jasper NP and continued south through Banff NP on our way back to Kimberley. The weather was cloudy and wet initially then brightened to be a glorious day. Stopped at all (or most) of the scenic look-outs and spent time at Lake Louise and Moraine Lake. Dinner at Radium Hot Springs then on to Kimberley to Anne and Michael's house. We will stay here sightseeing until Val and Mike leave for the UK. Pam and George [View Full Entry]

July 20th and 21st. Today Val, Mike, Pam and I set off for a three day tour of the Canadian Rockies, before returning to Kimberley (Anne and Michael's house. We spent two nights in the park at Sunwapta Lodge, which borders Jasper and Banff National Parks. The scenery is fantastic helped by excellent weather conditions. Saw many glacier ice fields, turquoise lakes, waterfalls, a black bear, deer, a hoary marmot and lots of tourists. Pam and George [View Full Entry]

July 20th. Today Val, Mike, Pam and I went to sightsee the Edmonton Fort. Amazing replica of the original fort built for fur trading. Back to the hotel late afternoon and then it was Auntie Derda's 90th birthday dinner. About 40 family and friends gathered for a great evening of excellent dining, speeches, and a few family secrets revealed in quizzes. Pam and George [View Full Entry]

July 18th. Traveled from Calgary to Edmonton and met up with Aunt Derda and many family members and friends. Tonight is casual dining, but tomorrow is the 'big' party dinner. Travel today was punctuated by a heavy thunderstorm, lightning, hail and heavy rain. Scenery fairly bland (no hills) between Calgary and Edmonton. Saw an emu but guessed that it was an alien species and should not be here. Pam and George [View Full Entry]
