The final leg of our Road Trip NJ to home in Framingham MA was uneventful except for an odd downpour on the Mass Pike. We left Piscataway bidding a fond farewell to our friends Don Betty and family and set off for home. Today we 'discovered' Cape May on a bright and sunny morning after the previous night's storms. Then after a brunch by the sea we set off for Piscataway to stop and see Don and Betty and family. Today we traveled from Ohio to Bridgeton New Jersey crossing parts of West Virginia Pennsylvania Maryland and Delaware. After spending two nights at Susan and Walt's house enjoying good food and hospitality we continued our way across Illinois and through Indiana into Ohio. Today we left Concordia MO and continued east on I70 towards Illinois on our way to see friends in Monticello. The journey took us along part of the 'old Route 66' and across the Missouri and Mississippi rivers. We arrived midafternoon at Susan and Walt's house. Today we continued across Kansas on I70 and into Missouri. Mostly farm country with the odd crop sprayer and some mechanical contraptions pumping oil. We encountered some rain in the morning but the serious storms were further north. Continued our journey across Colorado using Highway 50 and crossing the Rockies through Monarch Pass el 11300 feet. After the Rockies it was down onto the Plains and some very rolling countryside. Night stop Burlington CO. and a quick ride on a 100 year old Carousel complete with musical organ. Amazing scenery truly. We then followed the scenic highway northeast along the Grand StaircaseEscalante National Monument and Dixie National Forest finally emerging through Capitol Reef National Park. Today we followed the south rim of the Grand Canyon through the National Park and then north back into Utah. We stopped to see the Dam at Glen Canyon and night stopped at Kanab. The temp a little cooler than yesterday though still touched 103F. Walked around the Mormon Temple and gardens in 93degree temps. Went inside the Tabernacle and heard 'three pins drop' demonstrates the building's acoustics. Travelled from Salmon to Tremonton Utah today with a slight detour to visit a strange landscape called 'Craters of the Moon'. A area where volcanic eruptions about every 2000 years creates lava flow and odd mounds and pinnacles. The surface becomes eroded over time but areas remain where nothing grows. First off we took Val and Mike to the Airport for their flight back to the UK. Then across the border back into the US and south on 95 in Idaho. Left Jasper NP and continued south through Banff NP on our way back to Kimberley. The weather was cloudy and wet initially then brightened to be a glorious day. Stopped at all or most of the scenic lookouts and spent time at Lake Louise and Moraine Lake. Dinner at Radium Hot Springs then on to Kimberley to Anne and Michael's house. Today Val Mike Pam and I set off for a three day tour of the Canadian Rockies before returning to Kimberley Anne and Michael's house. We spent two nights in the park at Sunwapta Lodge which borders Jasper and Banff National Parks. The scenery is fantastic helped by excellent weather conditions. Today Val Mike Pam and I went to sightsee the Edmonton Fort. Amazing replica of the original fort built for fur trading. Back to the hotel late afternoon and then it was Auntie Derda's 90th birthday dinner. Tonight is casual dining but tomorrow is the 'big' party dinner.Travel today was punctuated by a heavy thunderstorm lightning hail and heavy rain. Scenery fairly bland no hills between Calgary and Edmonton.
