India, here I come!

So I left my friends in Australia in search of adventure in New Zealand. And I wasn’t disappointed it. It was an action packed month including a nerve-racking skydive, adventurous glacier hike, exhilarating white water rafting, and surreal underground caving as well abundance of parties including the fancy dress in a remote West Coast pub and a 3 legged pub crawl. Not only is New Zealand an action-packed fun place, it is also the most beautiful country I have ever visited. Glorious coastal scenery, magnificent mountain ranges and picturesque lakes seem to be everywhere you look. It’s a photographers dream. When booking my flights to New Zealand, in the excitement of it all, I booked my flights under Mrs. Peter Brosnan. Despite that initial mishap, I landed in Auckland, safe and sound. In Auckland, I explored ... read more
All good things have to come to an end, but for me the east coast ended all too abruptly. The worst floods in 20 years in North Queensland meant roads closed and change of plans. However, before we hit the floods we had thrilling adventure up the East Coast of Australia. The coast is littered with stunning beaches, picturesque islands, world class theme parks and permanent party atmosphere with a profusion of like minded travellers exploring Australia most travelled route Sydney to Cairns. So we packed up the campervan and headed off from Bondi, leaving our home and our friends in search of adventure. Our new home was well equipped and ready for one of the world most famous road trips. Doing the coast in campervan, oppose to the bus, gave us the freedom to ... read more
Seven months in Sydney is by far the longest we have stayed in any one place since we left Dublin a year ago. What kept us here for so long? Lack of money and place to work is the obvious answer. Another is the Sydney trap with so many people coming over to Australia and failing to see much outside of Sydney. Initially we planned to earn some money and move on but it’s easy to see why so many never do. Sydney is a beautiful city with the climate, facilities and opportunities for Sydneysiders to enjoy their selves; their quality of life is one of the best in the world. Having settled in Sydney, the next seven months would a totally different experience to travelling Asia but it would a different adventure that would ... read more
Without doubt the month we spent traveling the Thai islands was my personal favourite. The Thai islands has it all from snorkeling and scuba diving in crystal clear waters to rock climbing and full moon parties. Everywhere we went we met really cool people, some we had already met throughout the rest of South East Asia and even a few people from home. We spent several nights in Phuket after flying there from Bangkok. Phuket was the ideal taster to the Thai islands with beautiful beaches and a vibrant nightlife. Much of time was spent lazing around the beaches or drinking in the bars. We had a few wild nights in Phuket and one bar in particular had a climbing wall for drunk punters to give it a go, it was great fun. The one day ... read more
The month we spent traveling through Vietnam and Cambodia reflected a change in culture from laid back Laos. Vietnam can be both hectic and simple. The boat trip around Halong Bay illustrated some of the beauty that Vietnam has to offer. The smaller towns we visited were examples of the simple life most Vietnamese live. The major cities of Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon) gave us opportunity to sample the chaos of Vietnam’s cities. The war museums and tunnels introduced us to alternative view into the horrific war history of the country. Cambodia was a simpler, smaller country with an equaling horrible history of war and genocide as well as the architectural beauty of the temples of Angkor. Vietnam and Cambodia was more fascinating, educational and revealing than any other countries we have ... read more
The month travelling through South East Asia, Thailand and Laos has been a truly memorably experience and everywhere we went we met so many like minded backpackers doing the same thing. South East Asia is without doubt a backpacker’s haven, with something for everyone. For us, ATV (quad bikes) and elephant rides in Thailand and boat trips along the Mekong and Tubing ( to be explained later) in Laos and a real drinking culture ( unlike in India) was a perfect mix for travelling in South East Asia. Bangkok is the backpacker’s capital of South East Asia. All backpackers congregate in Bangkok before embarking on their individual journeys throughout South East Asia. Bangkok is a real love-it or hate-it kind of city, me personally I loved it. The hustle and bustle of a capital city with ... read more
After extensively travelling North India, it was about time to put our rucksacks down for a few weeks and chill out, and there’s no better place to do that than Goa. Although our 2 weeks in Goa were not as action packed as our north Indian adventure it was definitely more relaxing. Goa, famous for its beaches and louche living, gave us a break from the hustle and bustle of India and chance to recharge the batteries before we embarked on the South East Asian leg of our world tour. After spending just a few nights in Mumbai, (its hot and expensive) we were eager to get down to the beaches of Goa. With dozens of beaches to choose from and limited time left in India, we had be selective in which beaches we stayed on. ... read more
22 Days from Delhi to Mumbai Our Indian Adventure has been a chaotic and exciting journey. From Tiger Safari in Ranthambore National Park to the Taj Mahal in Agra, from the boat trip along the Ganges to the camel safari in Jaisalmer, it has been an action packed 22 days. No doubt travelling India is not for the faint hearted; even the most experienced traveller will be tested at the best of times. The culture shock can take at least a few days to adjust to. And even then, the sight of cows in the middle of the street and an auto rickshaw swinging to avoid them can still starlet you, especially if you are in the back struggling to hang on to anything and praying to God you arrive safely. This is India, alright! The ... read more
