Another day in Paula’s world One thing I did not mention in my previous blog the WC are mixed - yes mixed - and there are no toilet seats, however, at least they were not just foot wells with a long drop! It was a quiet day so we decided to go into Orleans which was a bit of a walk and then a tram into the centre - which was nice using different transport. We found the cathedral in the centre and it looked splendid with all the Ukrainian flags as well and if I am totally honest it was one of the best cathedrals I have ever been in - the stained glass windows were stunning. I have taken some photos but to be honest I do not think they do the cathedral justice. ... read more

Another day another dollar and Goose is not at the wheel So after the night of France Passion, well not in the biblical sense if you read my last blog, we rise early and go to start the motorhome and guess what, the bleeding immobiliser would not let us start it - me thinking OMG and Mike thinking well maybe day 2 could be France Passion in the literal sense, ha ha. Anyway, we tried the other keys and wowee it started so thank goodness for this. The navigator Mike, let’s start calling him Goose as Goose was Maverick’s navigator in Top Gun, started well but let’s be honest he had Sat Nav to help him. So we trundled along the nice french roads through nice villages in the Champagne region and I was loving it ... read more

France Passion Now I bet that title made you read my blog quicker than normal. Well sorry to say it is not what you think, it is a camp site that we are staying on. France Passion is an organisation where you can stay at a site for nothing - however, it usually is a place that is attached to a local producer of food or wine. So sorry if I got your hopes up on some juicy news. Anyway the co-pilot did really well yesterday with his navigation skills and we only went wrong once, if honest that was a real tricky bit, but we got back on track by taking a couple of roundabouts. So we were driving along and then all we could hear was something wining - it appeared to be a ... read more

Lest we forget We had a quiet night after the nightmare the previous day so all is well in the Fairbairn camp. So I have decided I am turning into my parents. When I was young my mum and dad used to take all us kids (5 of us) abroad each year to France and beyond and we used to visit all the cemeteries for the fallen solders and war museums - well anything to do with the war - yes one brother is called Sherman and the other is Robert Lee or Bob as we call him - i.e a bit of a clue there i.e. Sherman Tank and Major Robert Lee Near the campsite there is a British cemetery Seraucourt-le-Grand so we decided to walk up and see it. It was quite a sobering ... read more

Day one in France So I need to explain why I had to put my big girls knickers on. Mike got to the ripe old age of 70 when he had to apply for his license again. He wanted to keep his C1 category on his license which allows him to drive vehicles over 3.5 ton. So this exercise was not as simple as applying online to renew his license. He now had to go for a medical and have his eyesight tested. So all done but he mentioned at his medical that he drank more than the Government’s Chief Medical Officer recommended limit of 14 units of alcohol a week. So now DVLA wanted more info on his drinking like in the last year!!!! So he has not received his license yet so cannot drive ... read more

So we are now on the downward spiral of the holiday and went to Bremen. The campsite was great and has fantastic facilities and is close by a lake and, you guessed it, no I did not go paddle boarding as it was tooooo cold. However, would you believe it we are not far from a nudist beach and yes you guessed it on Saturday it was full and yes they were swimming - maybe it’s me but what is the attraction of a nudist beach - must be getting old. So Mike was really annoyed with me as I have knocked the fly screen door off its rail at the bottom - so I have asked the motorhome group for advice and they say use brute force to get it back on the rail - ... read more

When I started writing this blog we were still in Denmark and were in the South of Fyn near to Svenborg and once again a really nice site. We rocked up once again unannounced and found a great pitch. Everyone is so nice around here. We have done a bit of a silly thing as we have gone back on ourselves but do you know what, does it really matter, apart from the price of fuel being so much. Fyn is supposed to have the best weather in Denmark and to be honest it is really nice, sunny and warm. I still do not think it is going to be warm enough though to go paddle boarding - think this is going to have to wait until we get to the Caribbean again - not taking ... read more

So everyone, nearly all 40 Carthago owners motorhomes have left Hillerod it seems so its goodbye to Andrew, Joan and now Barrie and Chris who have gone on to Sweden. That means we are on our own with no place to go. But the three couples are all in touch and all I can say is what a fabulous time we have had with all four of them - more Carthago chums adventures to be had in due course. So after a bit of internet searching I thought I had found a great place for us to stop, near a fjord, so really looking forward to doing this and you cannot go to Denmark and not stay near a fjord surely. After a nice journey which once again I navigated although Mr Mike wanted the Sat ... read more

This is supposed to be a group of people who know what they are doing, well I can tell you this is not the case, even though most are retired and long standing motorhomers’. So Andrew and Joan had brought a rotary clothes dryer. So both mike and I set ours up really easily within 2 seconds. It is a Lakeland one (other suppliers are available) - but could we put Andrew’s and Joan’s up, not a bloody chance. We also got lots of other Carthago owners to help and once again how many carthago owners does it take to put a rotary dryer up, well all I can say it is not enough. We decide to go into Copenhagen which is a lovely city. We decide that we will buy a Copenhagen pass which gives ... read more

Well day 2 and 3 of being in Europe was firstly in the fantastic site in the Netherlands that I spoke about last time and now we are in Germany. Mind you it appears from the site we were in first we could have walked into Germany which would have been an experience that we could say we walked from the Netherlands to Germany, ha ha it sounds good and do not have to say it was less than a mile. So we follow the Sat Nav which you all know Mike loves and guess what less than 3 miles in and there is a road block and you guessed it the Sat Nav did not pick it up and wanted to take us around in circles. So guess what the trusty map came back with ... read more
