Right today no more pansy rapids - we booked onto a grade 5 expedition with Kaituna cascades - including 2 waterfalls one 8metres high. Much more adrenaline with this raft though only lasting 50 mins. We lost one of our crew on one of the waterfalls but thankfully caught up with her downstream - a fantastic experience which only left me wanting more! Rob then tandem kayaked down the same water - i camcordered trekking by foot through the forrest - awesome and something special - a must do !The guides were great and v. experienced - competing abroad in rafting [View Full Entry]

Arrived in Roturua to be greeted by a smell of eggs due to geothermal activity - or was that just Rob after too many protein bars? Great Youth hostel with own huge natural spa pool. Met 14 people in from ireland in there and we compared notes on trips etc. meant to go out after a steak supper and short kip but both had a short kip till 9.00 am! Luging in the morning. Well this was an experience - already done before but nothing can compare to seeing Rob flying though the air while he was trying to catch us [View Full Entry]

Gem here, Few days behind in updating about our trip over the weekend with Chevy who we met pruning. We had shopped on Friday to get all the supplies needed for the weekend and told to be ready for 6am, thanks for that one Chevy. A sleepless night followed filled with BAD irish folk songs curteousy of the idiotic bloke duty manager of Napier YHA. His opinion was that everyone else in the building wanted to hear the awful sounds of a cat being strangled and churned out to try and sound like folk songs, when no one was actually sitting [View Full Entry]

The rock Oceania » New Zealand » North Island » Taupo
Hi there, Just thought would name this blog to get Elinor excited, she will know why, but sorry not that rock. Just spent last two nights in Taupo YHA, again a fab place to stay. Day one we did try and go for a cruise on the lake to see the Maori rock carving but the weather was too bad and so went along to Taupo adventure park and completed a maze, I won but Dave cheated, he followed me honest! To get out of the maze you then have to go down this long tunnel slide which is mostly pitch [View Full Entry]

Ants Oceania » New Zealand » North Island » Northland
Gem here again, Dave is busy putting photos onto previous blogs. Left Kaitaia thankfully a couple of days ago. Leaving a room that we woke up to find an army of ants trying to get from one side to the other and they we everywhere. Mentioned this to the hostel staff and the said thankyou, no apology or that they would sort this out. Did we also mention the glas, well due to the weather one of the doors glass blew through and there was glass everywhere, I cleaned up the inside and another guest put the temporary cardboard in to [View Full Entry]

Windy days Oceania » New Zealand » North Island » Northland
Hi Gem here, Well yesterday was absolutely horrible weather the worst we have seen in this country since we started. Gails and constant rain, not very pleasant. It did lighten up a wee bit this morning and so we decided we would take the trip to cape reinga (can't think of right spelling) and ninety mile beach. The weather to start with lifted and was bright sunshine but quickly changed and started to pour down and the winds blowing the coach about. Funny thing was that everytime we got off the coach the subn came out and it stopped raining. Think [View Full Entry]

Hi now in Paihia in the bay of islands and yesterday it was beautiful weather and today well it has gone somewhat downhill and has been raining. Staying in another YHA hostel, amazing room like a studio area with two double rooms attached, but there is noone booked in the other room at present and so we have it all to ourselfs. The only thing that would make it better is having a kitchen in it as well, as the shared one is tiny for the amount of people in the hostel at present. Got our own balcony with sea view [View Full Entry]

Hi guys , Dave here - well we arrived in Aukland - another 5 star HOSTEL! note superman senior that thats not the same as a 5 star hotel, it just means you get a bit more for you 8 pounds a night - like a clean toilet for instance. Anyway it was a nice day and i thought to myself 'why not go and throw myself of the highest tower in NZ i mean whats the worst that could happen?????'. So i did a base jump of the Sky tower.........twice. Pretty amazing experience and after watching spiderman the night before [View Full Entry]
