| 8th August 2008 Destiny Askew | This wonderful experience - From: Reflective Comments on Travels Since my jet lag is over, I can actually stay awake long enough to read all the blog entries! :D This trip was an absolutely life changing experience that I will cherish for the rest of my life. Although their were some struggles for me to actually come on this trip, and some throughout the endeavour, they have made me the person I have grown into over the past year. I went to Europe with the idea that this was not a vacation, but a once-in-a-lifetime learning experience; I had no idea that the people I met and the things I saw would have this kind of impression on me. I sit here at my computer, with tears in my eyes, thanking God for this wonderful experience. I would like to thank all of the leaders so graciously for taking care of me while we were 5000+ miles away from home and for putting up with me while I was homesick and had those awful blisters. :D [which by the way are healing quite well] If it wasn't for you guys taking a risk and taking 33 students overseas for 3 weeks, this wouldn't have been possible. -To Ms. Roselyn AKA Grandma Roselyn, Thank you for letting me put my head on your shoulder when I was tired, which was a lot, and thank you for being there when I just needed to talk. Remember, what happens in Europe, stays in Europe. :D -To Mrs. Joni AKA mama Jernti, thank you for making me laugh when I was down and homesick, which was quite often. I will never forget your jokes, especially the chewing gum one. Oh, and one more thing, the dryer didn't shrink my pants that much, `cause they are still pretty loose. :D -To Mr. Bruce AKA Grampa Bruce, thank you so much for all the medicine for my feet and the natural healing ideas too. They helped me so much! Also, you were the tallest in the group, and that helped me so many times when I couldn't find the group or for when I was looking for a leader and you were the first one I saw. Thank you for being tall! :D -And last, but definitely not least, To Mrs. Bambi AKA Aunt Bambi, thank you SO much for everything you did for me on this trip. I came to you a lot, and everytime I did, you always helped me with whatever I needed. Thank you for being the "mother hen" and helping me with my feet, I wouldn't have made it without your help. Also, I wanted to thank you for helping me out with my homesickness; I've never been that far away from home, and I had no idea it would affect me that bad. That first week was rough for me and I want to thank you so much for helping me through it. You are an awesome person, and im glad i've gotten to know you over the past 6 months, but really in the past month. You were more than my delegation leader, you were, and always will remain, a great friend. Thank you for making my first trip to Europe a very memorable one and I look forward to our travels next year! Just remember, never say the number 8 in German and don't jump in anymore pools with all your clothes on! :) *And to all of the 32 wonderful, new friends I made- You guys were so much fun, and I couldn't have made it through this trip without the wonderful personalities of all of you. I think this group got very close the first day we were in that hot and very busy, yet beautiful city of Rome. I am so glad that my first trip out of the country was with you guys, It couldn't have been better. Thank all you guys for putting up with my blisters, I know it probably got annoying. I hope to see all y'all at the reunion, and we shall see Bo-Bo again, too! All of you are lovely and I hope to travel with some of you again next year! P.S. I was SO glad to get home and have REAL soda, REAL McDonalds, and a good bed to sleep in. :] |
| 6th August 2008 Debbie Wilson | Thank You - From: Reflective Comments on Travels Thank you all for making this a wonderful trip for Lauren. We are glad to have her back home safe and sound. I made her two albums while she was away and gave them to her at the hotel in Raleigh early, early Monday morning! One contained all of the TravelBlog Entries and another of all the blog and shutterfly photographs. Last night we looked at her photographs and listened to the wonderful stories about the trip. She will never forget this experience. She has wonderful memories and made wonderful friends. |
| 3rd August 2008 Jean Zappia | What a trip Leonard - From: Eiffel Tower and Louvre Safe journey home and thank you for taking good care of your charges. What a wonderful journey for all, including the arm chair travelers. We enjoyed our trip also. Aunt Jean |
| 3rd August 2008 Sandra | - From: Eiffel Tower and Louvre I am so glad you all got to the top. I was thinking about that all day, hoping you would make it this year. Have a great flight and see you at the airport. |
| 3rd August 2008 Allen Edwards | Tomorrow... tomorrow - From: Eiffel Tower and Louvre I'm ready to see you in the USA!!! God's traveling mercies! |
| 3rd August 2008 John | A Journey Never Ended - From: Eiffel Tower and Louvre This may seem like the end of a journey, but is it? It will be up to the delegates to decide if this is where they take off their traveling shoes and leave the exploration of the world to others. With all of the pictures I have seen, I would think that this is just a warm-up for them. Our country need young people to go into the countries that only know our culture from what they are exposed to on television and show them that we are not an uncivilized nation. As your child returns to you Sunday night, take a moment to imagine that they have invoked thought and reflection in the people whom they have come in contact with. The home stay families have had an opportunity to enjoy our children, and our children were afforded a glimpse onto the everyday lives of people not much more different than you and I. Great job to Bambi, Roselyn, Dr. Bruce and Joni. I commend you on your stamina during this time. |
| 3rd August 2008 Liz | safe trip! - From: Eiffel Tower and Louvre Have a safe trip home and thank you all for the privelege of going along with you on your journey. Chelsea your grandparents are super excited you are coming home! Trixie is to I am sure! See you soon. Lizzie |

| 2nd August 2008 Mandy Jones | So Proud - From: Versailles and Odds and Ends We are so proud of all of you! The delegation leaders, thank you so much for taking this group of young teens to foreign soil and bringing us all a piece of it back! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! The kids, thank you for sharing with your smiles, messages, and poetic words! We can't wait to see you in person and absorb all you have seen and learned over the past 20 days! Love, Moms and Dads and all Family and Friends! |
| 2nd August 2008 P2P Rep | Accommdations Sunday Night - From: Versailles and Odds and Ends I couldn’t find a good hotel price near RDU, but did locate a great campground with cabins. “The BUS Kampground at RDU” All their cabins are shaped like a Motor Coach (BUS), but without wheels. It is only $8.99 a night and offers full views of the airport. Located at the end of the main runway, they boast “You can watch planes arrive and depart from either side of your BUS, ALL day and ALL night”. Group sites are available so everybody can stay. Now doesn’t that sound fun? ;) Bruce has first choice. |

Seeing all you bundled with jackets walking down the main corrider reminds of the muster parties they had for the persecuted. They would make them stand to attention for hours, naked in the middle of winter. Can you imagine! Hope you enjoyed Vienna. Makes me a bit homesick to know you're there. |

| 31st July 2008 Mandy Jones | Justin's Poetry and Home Stay - From: Goodbye Switzerland and Hello France Justin's poetry takes my breath! I see so clearly what I have never seen through the words of this young man. I also just read Cassie's comments about her homestay. She was so anxious about going into this experience, but what she has gained is a lifelong relationship formed over only a few days. Priceless! So proud of all of you! Mandy Jones |
| 31st July 2008 Kristy | without a doubt... - From: Goodbye Switzerland and Hello France Without a doubt this has been the most heartwrenching post to date.....the first thing I noticed was the pictures and my daughter's smiling face....and OMG those windshields she calls sunglasses...hahaha!! But what I read broke my heart, brought tears to my eyes, and made me proud that our children are coming home with this experience and the outlook that they now have. I knew my girl would come home a changed person...but I had no idea it would have this effect on her. Thanks to all the leaders for helping make this all possible for all the students. |

| 30th July 2008 Jean Zappia | Farewells are not easy Leonard - From: Goodbye Switzerland and Hello France Justin the poetry was moving. The pain was loud and clear, your family must be very proud of your gift to all of us privleged to read your work. It was amazing after all these years that these children were able to feel the fear and hate that genocide fuels. But now for something lighter. The picture of the olives was wonderful. I had made ratatouile for supper, how wonderful that would have been for our salad. Aunt Jean |

It's good to be exposed to all sides of life, not just the beautiful and scenic..love Aunt Jean |

| 27th July 2008 John Bradley | Taylor the Conquer - From: Austria - Farm and Medieval …..As a master thespian, this is the role Taylor was born to perform. As a master orator the ever pleasant Sir Taylor must have spun yarns of quest and conquests titillating the peasants with every show of courage. Remember everyone, what our children will have learned in these three weeks are lessons that can never be learned from books, movies or graphs. Taylor was fortunate enough to go to the top of the twin towers one month before the attack. Never take for granted that things will always stay the same. Live these adventures vicariously through the stories and pictures that these delegates return with as they have lived all these things. |

The highlight was the trip to the legislative building. It was interesting to speak with the senator and get to observe the process of trying to get the budget bill passed. We also got to see a small protest outside of the Science museum. |
