Please Explain!
Why is there an ad for The Love Calculator on your blogsite? Are you trying to tell me something? You know I can't add... and neither can you apparently. Lovely Chinese people + fresh faced tourist = large bill. At least you have clean teeth at a discount price. Rock on Fugley!

bloggggggging gud
Geezer, great to hear you are keeping the local student economy going. Keep attempting to get into trouble with the red stars. Last night I almost ended up in the equivalent at the Cheney march at Town Hall, then somehow a rumour was started amongst the blue tie wearers that I had been arrested. You would have loved Gerry Freer's farewell speech for Garin today, it started off with G is for Great R is for.....ridiculus fashion and music sense..... Keep the tales coming bastard.

Putonghua lesson 1
Happy New Year in Chinese is Xin Nian Kwai Le... But then again don't listen to me - I spent half an Annapurna trek trying to learn Mandarin and got "Yes mate!" looks from the Chinese when I tried it out on them. If you want tea on the cheap, buy one of those glass thermos type things and a bag of tea leaves - you can get free hot water anywhere you go in China. Good luck!

Realisation kicks in...
Yeah, I realised as I walked away that I had been scammed. But they were such nice girls!!! I will track them down and stuff wads of tea leaves down their throats...

Emperor Nasi Goreng
Tom, I should point out to you at this stage that you should keep your blog interesting and entertaining at ALL times. Given that your income level will soon be dictated by how popular a teacher you are, and how well your students perform academically, this may present a problem. I predict that upon your return you will be working for 82 cents an hour and have to turn tricks in Newtown to make ends meet.

Tea Scam
The tea thing is common, it sometimes means purchasing art or some such thing in China. It generally is worthwhile to go with someone who speaks Chinese and can keep you free from such scams. Chinese generally have the view if you are a stranger, they owe you nothing but are extremely loyal to their friends. Therefore, if you are a westerner and do not speak Chinese you will be in trouble. http://eatchina.blogspot.com- is my blog and would love all feedback

They all got stoned and it drifted away
Hey Tom, how interactive is this. Think I might make the blog compulsory reading for Year 12 Society and Culture. There are 3 questions in the SAC syllabus I think you should reflect on as you dwell on your Shanghai experience: 1) Is all change necessarily progress? 2) Which groups benefit from change? Which do not? 3) Are westernisation, modernisation and industrialisation inevitable? Wouldn't like to nip into Vietnam to give me a quick update would you? Enjoy mate, I look forward to the next instalment.

Thought I'd christen the blog by wishing you a fond farewell! Was good to see you off last Friday. Have a great trip and keep us all informed! Hasta la proxima.
