I am writing for free today from the local library, which you can join with a letter from my hostel and use the internet here for free, unlimited time! Which is great but I actually came here to do some work using my memorystick, and of course the library computers don't handle such mod cons. Has been a lot of fun hanging round Sydney the past week, more so when the geography of the city starts falling into place in your head and you know what buses or walking routes take you where you want to go. I have been lazier than ever this week, reading, bumming around on the beach, eating, and attending crab racing. Glebe does that to you. After a few days of fairly stormy wet weather the sun returned in force today and I hit Coogee Beach with Casey, my American friend from the hostel, and two mates. Last night was valentines and the only way to take shelter from the deluge of love letters was of course to go crab racing at the Friend In Hand pub with Casey, Breeana, Mark and Ben. Just finished two books, A Year In The Merde (lame, much fabricated account of some english guy moving to Paris and observing how fucked up french girls are, making the most lame attempts at droll humour ever) and The Motorcycle Diaries, the diaries of Ernesto Che Guevara and his buddy as they biked over South America. A lot of the places they visited and accounted, I will be going to. I loved the book (it's my favourite type of book after all - the biography). New state, new time zone.... I am back on the Greyhound tonight for the 'red eye' to Sydney. Should take about 11-12 hours this time. I actually really enjoy riding the bus long-range; I almost enjoy packing my bag for the ride with the same things every time - water bottle (to be filled for free on the bus), Quantas' free socks (cos the bus is so well air conditioned it gets a little cold), my ipod (of course fully charged the previous night with new playlists set up), my skeleton print scarf (again for the cold - it really isn't [View Full Entry]

Hi folks, I'm staying in central Brisbane for a week to get a closer look at the city. Brisbane is a nice city, with a village type feel and just enough people to feel busy but relaxed. As it's not such an old city compared to most others I have been to outside Oz, I haven't had a knackering itinerary of ancient monuments and museums to cram into my days; it's more about picking an area from the map in the Rough Guide I stole from the Bellview in Cairns, getting there, and walking around exploring in a totally random way. Been hanging out at cousin Gill's place since my return from Sydney for about a week now. It's a really cool house that looks like the hotel from The Shining inside, long shadowy halls and paved floors keeping it cool but making it ever so slightly freaky to walk around at night. I thiNk it might have been built in the late 70's because of the style of the place, which is all the more rad. Happy 2007 to you possum!
