Hiking is essential in SB! It's a shame you didn't get to go on your hike while in Santa Barbara. That is truly one of my favorite things to do while traveling in the city. Your photos are really good by the way, you really do a good job of capturing the beauty of Santa Barbara. If you are ever around again you need to get on a trail! I recommend Cold Springs Trail. Not too hard yet a good challenge and work out! Watch out for the poison oak though! I cannot wait for my next thrilling adventure out in the wilderness of Santa Barbara-I'll be staying at the South Coast Inn (www.goleta-hotel.com). Actually close to several trail heads and a good place to come home to after a long day out.
Ancient Trees & High-Density Development Leo, What a shame! Yes, we humans tend to be such poor stewards of the other defenseless living creatures that share our planet. Our technology can do very good things but we often let our ignorance be the driver and the same technology can do so much harm. I wonder how this "druid" poisoned the Austin tree.
What a tree! Great photos Eric. Hope the tree survives the virus that is High density development. There once was a massive great oak where I lived in Austin Texas called Treaty Oak which looked to be about the size and age of this angel oak. It survived the encircling development of the urban enviroment but it didn't survive a deluded individual who fancied himself a self appointed druid. He poisoned this beautiful tree in an attempt to cast a love spell on some woman he knew. The city of Austin and tens of thousands of dollars of arborists efforts were able to keep about a third of the tree alive, but it will never be what it once was.

Japan's Second Dimension Thank you for your comment. I guess my other blogs in Travelblog.org would give you some idea about some of my most recent experiences in travel... It's a pity that this web site has not existed for very long... Travel is my passion and I have always tried to work in areas that allowed me (or required me) to travel... especially internationally. My other passions are photography, videography, and languages, and I find that these "hobbies" or skills tend to be very good bridges to people when I travel. For me traveling is not just seeing places, but getting to know as well as possible the people and cultures of those places, present and past. I started traveling at age 3 and I may die in a place that I have not seen yet....

Buenos Aires Dawn, You won't be disappointed! Buenos Aires is a magical place with much to see and a real bargain for international travelers... I am looking forward to returning there for another visit.
Hello!
Welcome to my travelblogs!
More than anything, these blogs are a means for capturing my thoughts and experiences as I wander the World. Though they are now useful for sharing these experiences with friends and family, I hope that they will also help me relive the experiences someday when my memories become dulled by time.
I have been fortunate enough during my lifetime to have straddled the developing and developed areas of the planet. During my childhood in my native El Salvador, I was amused but extremely curious about these strange visitors that a... full info
