Ohel Mitio - Mitio Rothstein

Mitio Rothstein I guess I should write something witty, hip, ironic, or insightful here...I'll think of something to say later. I'm in India, here's a taste of what I'm experiencing, feeling, and thinking.

***Now that I once again have a working laptop, I can finally start writting more. It's about two months worth...so give it time.

And don't forget to send me messages! If you have questions, concerns, or anything, let me know!

The Origins of Mitio WARNING: The Following Material Contains EXPLICIT Jewish Words and Ideas, Please be Advised. “Mitio” is the name I have gone by since the first next of Sukkoth 5769. There I encount [View Full Entry]

Orientation Part I Orientation lasted from Jan. 20th to Feb. 9th. Within those three weeks nine AJWS fellows and three orientation leaders lived at Gandhi’s ashram in Ahmadabad, and for 4-5 days we stayed at a Dalit (untouchable) vocational school. While at the Ashram… Discussions The days were primarily filled with discussions on either International Development, India, Judaism, cross-cultural understandings, and skill-building workshops. I was always blown away by ideas, awareness, understanding, thoughtfulness, critiques, and support that were expressed by my coun [View Full Entry]

Once in a while, usually before bed poems pop into my head. Most of these were write while I was in Japan, but there are some from ADAMAH, and one or two from India. Enjoy! Turning Hazy September morning, Existence passes by, Yet I turn towards you. Divine Consistency During the Highest Days of Tishri, While change is spreading, Your love remains constant. Prayer Through Action On the Holiest of Days I remind myself, Prayer is spoken through action, You are not required to finish the work, Nor are you free to do nothing. Love or Fear In their last days, [View Full Entry]

Arriving in India When the captain announced that we were landing in Mumbai, I had finally begun to realize I was going to be in India for 9 months. Looking out through the window, it could have very easily have been Israel or the hills and canyons surrounding Malibu during the summer, but it wasn’t. As we landed, the first I saw were the dilapidated slums that surrounded the airport’s boundaries. After a bit of a wait at the baggage claim with my other fellows, we moved into the domestic flight terminal, picked up Dafna who had come to Mumbai, and [View Full Entry]

Initial Intentions and Thoughts In the Beginning… In the introduction to his transformation motorcycle journey, a 23 year old no-name medical student named Ernesto “Che” Guevara wrote: “This is not a story of heroic feats, or merely the narrative of a cynic; at least I do not mean it to be….in nine months of a man’s life he can think a lot of things, from the loftiest meditations on philosophy to the most desperate longing for a bowl of soup—in total accord with the state of his stomach. And if, at the same time, he’s somewhat of an [View Full Entry]
