The journey is incredible from Salta to San Pedro, just breath-taking no kidding the scenery changes every 20-30 mins, over a 10 hour bus journey is ALOT!!! highlights, was 7 coloured mountain, such shades of green, pink, oranges, reds, purples, blues, just amazing all thanks to the diff minerals making up these mountains!! then canyons, rock formations, blinding white salt flats, winding our way up to an altitude of 5,000 m above sea level, you can feel it, as you get out at argentina, chile boarder, wind cuts through you despite hot sun, and air is so thin, you've never had to concentrate on breathing quite so much before!! descending only slightly into the beginning of the driest desert in the world!!! San Pedro is unlike anywhere else i've been thus far, the locals themselves will ... read more

apologies again for delay. Pucon was a beautiful little town with the infamous volcano Villaracia. we had no idea at the time how lucky we were to climb it, since the weather conditions have to be just right, it is an active volcano last erupted in 1985, i should remember that year. but this was so much more than a mountain hike, we first got fully kitted out with windproof gear, ice picks, crampons, and GAS MASKS, yup even from the bottom you could see the small pillar of sulphuric smoke coming straight up out of the peak, if the wind shifted we were told the gas masks were good for 15 mins!! the last ppl to die hiking this volcano had been only 2 months previous, a combination of bad weather and poor judgement call ... read more

The next day after completing the W trek, we arrive in beautiful El Calafate, the Big ICe trek awaits us. we book ourselves in for the next day hoping for good weather. We get picked up early and driving for nearly two hours before we reach the glaciar well inside national park, this has nothing on glaciar grey in Torres del Paine, its incredible, it stretches back for miles back up into the mountains, an incredible process is at work here, where the glaciar advances quickly and every two years it cuts off this lake by advancing right into the the cliff face, the lake then proceeds to erode a cave, then an arch, in the glaciar, until eventually for the lucky few who witness the entire front of the glaciar crashes down and the process ... read more

Sorry for the delay, I've definitely fallen behind on my diary entries. So on leaving the End of the World there's only direction you can head and that´s up!! so we did a crazy 16 hour drive across the most southerly tip to Torres del Paine crossing boarders about 6 times weaving our way in and out of Argentina and Chile, thanks to a very organised Australian on board, three of us were able to pack off early to take on the W a hike through Torres National Park taking in the best, sights, a hike usually spread out over 5 days, our challenge was to get it all or most of it done in 3, as our ferry left at 12 on the 4th day and if we missed that, our guide assured us we'd ... read more

Hi Everyone, So after the briefest of stops in Buenos Aires I met up with my crew for the start of Patagonia Experience, we headed out early on the 29th of march, we had a long day of travelling out of the city and heading south, stopping for lunch at a service station, and heading on to our first camp site, which was not the most idyllic, right off main highway beside big station stop for other truckers! It was noisy, fairly dodgy looking but it had toilet facilities, so we set up our tents and our guide Alahandro got our supper started, the master truck being equipped with a full kitchen as well as comfy seats! seating around chatting and eventually to bed, a fitful night's sleep followed, with an early start the next day. ... read more

hI guys, So I´ve left Rio behind, and I´m just finishing my two day trek in the incredible Parque Nacional do Iguacu! centered right on boarder between Brazil, Argentina and Paraguay, my passport is quickly filling up as I´ve crossed the boarder at least four times with my hotel on one side and the falls on the other! I won´t get a chance to put the photos up for awhile, the internet is little harder to come by here! Met some lovely people on tour though, this nice couple from Equador invited me up to their casa (house) near Quito, apparently they have a son my age they´d love up me to meet, i´m just impressed that half this conversation was in Spanish and I managed to follow it! ;) The flight from Rio to Iguacu ... read more

Hey guys, as promised first update, arrived safely, travelling about 22 hours straight now, and my day in Rio has just begun, jet lag´s bound to catch up with me soon!! Sadly my phone is opting out of any local network so won´t be able to text till I get that sorted!! The internet is also not included in my hostel so won´t be updating as regularly as I´d hoped!! But I´m hear its very exciting, surrounded by water and the amount of trees everywhere, I thought Ireland was green!! Caught a quick distant glimpse of the Christ as iconic for Rio now as the eiffel tower is for paris and Big Ben is for London!! It´s only 10am and it´s already ¨26 degrees, sweltering heat and I think I forgot my sunglasses!! if that´s all ... read more
