Time for school Asia » South Korea » Seoul
Is it really going to happen, am I going to start teaching? It seems like it's headed that way. Our school had it's first outing with prospective students and parents. We converged on English Village, which is a model town of what the "west" is supposed to look like, but instead looked like a mix of England with Roman era buildings and courtyards. The only American part about the place was the terrible hamburgers that you got a at soulless fast-food joint. Besides the "foreign" setting, the games and interaction with the kids and parents went great. This was the first [View Full Entry]

...this is what I want to accomplish in my life. I want to be able to look back and remember living in a high rise apartment in Seoul, South Korea. I want to be able to say that I saw as much of this world as I possibly could given the funds, time and well whatever else life throws at you. I was talking with some friends here the other day about moments you actually realize where you are. When it hits you that you are in a totally different place in the world and embarking on something whether it be [View Full Entry]

This is it, the last and final entry and the end of the trilogy. Even like Lord of the Rings, I don't want this story to end. Perhaps it is my fondness for Cambodia and the desire to see it again, and maybe because it just leaves me back here in Seoul waiting to tell knew stories that at least live up to the ones from Cambodia. I want to thank everyone that has been reading my blogs. Your comments mean a lot to me and I am glad that everyone is enjoying them. I just hope that I can keep [View Full Entry]

Siem Reap lived up to and more for my expectations. On the 6 hour bus ride from Phnom Penh, I wasn't sure what to expect. I heard that it is the second largest city in Cambodia and has it's own airport. Was this city going to be the same as Phnom Penh? Will the food be just as good, or the beer just as cheap? We arrived around 6:30 pm and were promptly picked up by a tuk tuk driver with a big smile and a couple of cokes. I have said it before I know, but it has to be [View Full Entry]

"Feel this here...."whoa what is that?" "That is a ball bearing from a mine I stepped on". "Can you feel the shrapnel in my arm?" "Right here?"..."OUCH!, yeah there." "Oh my god I'm sorry....it's ok." The shrapnel is quite close to a nerve, if it gets pushed to hard it hurts, but don't worry I'm ok. In total I have stepped on four mines, lost one leg have about 40% vision in both of my eyes due to explosions and bazooka flames. I have been shot eight times and lost many friends and family members during the Khmer Ruege, but I [View Full Entry]

Dacheon Mud Festival Asia » South Korea » Seoul
There is something special and spirit lifting about covering yourself in mud. Diving face first into a big puddle of watery gray matter, only to come up with a huge grin on your face. That was what the Mud Festival at Daechon beach was like. I don't think I have looked forward to being so dirty in my whole life, or have I ever been so dirty in my whole life, maybe in a rainy soccer game, or rubbing dead sea mud on my arms, but even then I did not have mud all over my head and face like I [View Full Entry]

Trying to catch up Asia » South Korea » Seoul
Where to begin, My last blog I talked about the waterpark, and then left a cliff hanger for what happened on the weekend. Well I'm going to try and clear all that up, and anything that I left out that happened even before the waterpark. So hopefully this doesn't come to jumbled.... Our school that we work for is having a hard time opening the doors, they seem to be waiting on government certificates about the building they built, and need to do the finishing work on the inside, right now it looks like the school is about 3/4's done. We [View Full Entry]

Settling in Asia » South Korea » Seoul
I have now been here a little over a week and have started to settle into a pace and decent sleeping schedule. The first week has been a whirlwind of activities, theme parks, Soju, island hoping, and meeting general great people. School has not yet started for us and is supposedly going to open July 14th, now if this happens or not is still in the air. The workers that are building the school have been taking their sweet time, so it might take just a little longer, but we will see. I am excited to get in there and teach. [View Full Entry]

I made it! Asia » South Korea » Seoul
Well We made it last night, The total travel time was only 21 hours!, but was not so bad for the fact that Justin and I were bumped up to business class 1 hour into the flight which was awesome , (the free drinks helped the situation too). When we arrived we were greeted by a member of the school and drove us about an hour and half to the school where the owners, 3 Korean teachers and the supervisor were all waiting for us. It was such a warm welcome and I immediately felt comfortable. After Justin and I settled [View Full Entry]
