Thought I would list my fav places we stayed , ate ,went in case you are thinking of going to Peru and also so I can remember!! Best hotels: Cusco Hotel Ruinas $125 our room had a fire place and they brought up wine and chocolate covered strawberries to welcome us! Lima El Patio hotel $45. We stayed in much more expensive hotels and thought that this was a great value. You can hear other quests walking by (thin walls), but everyone seems to make an effort to be quiet when walking throught the hotel. Puno Casa Panq arani $45 hotel is owned by a really nice guy named Edgar who makes a great effort to help you get around Puno. THe hotel is simple (no tv, phone or internet in room) but very nice. Driving through the Sacred Valley was awesome, unfortunately, the pictures cannot capture how beautiful it really is, and unfortunately for some of you, I tried to take a picture of each changing landscape...which you may be subjected to seeing at some point. :) My goat-like stomach has allowed me to try many of the local specialites, such as guinea pig (never had one as a pet, so I didnt have an issue with that,) lots of cerviche, tea de cocoa for the altitude. We got better view of Lima on the way back. Visited the El Mar restaurant, which was incredible! Then walked to the beach-cliffs. Getting to know my way around Miraflores shops, restaurants and bars. Happened by an art fair last night and I couldn't pass up a painting of Machu Picchu painted by ... read more

We made it to Aqua Calientes and met up with another great guide, Wagner. He would be meeting us in Machu Picchu tomorrow, but he came to our hotel the night before, to give us an overview. We went over the map, meet me here, oh and you have tickets for Huayna Picchu/Wayna Picchu? "yes!" I said. In the criptic Machu Picchu website I was able to discern that only 400 people a day could go to Huayna Pichu. That was enough to convince me that Chris and I would be 2 of those 400. "What is it?" Chris asked. I just knew it was exclusive. "uummm, just another little hike, I dont think it is a big deal". Well I didnt think it was a big deal until Wagner informed us it is a 2 ... read more

It´s all coming together now. All the websites we have been looking at are becoming real places, the tickets we bought being used, the people we emailed, we are meeting in real life. We did make it to Puno (Lake Titicaca), and cruised the lake, seeing and hiking the floating islands. We visited one island that is sustained by the people of the island constantly adding to it, taking the reeds from the water to reinforce their ever sinking island. We stayed with Edgar (on solid ground, not the floating island!), at what would best be described as a Peruvian bed and breakfast, which was awesome. He made all our travel arrangements for us while we were there, while we relaxed and socialized with the other house guests and Matilda, their very charming dog. We hopped ... read more

Say we go and try and get in" we then took a exciting cab ride you can only understand if youhave been to certain foreign countries. Then walked around a huge stadium and finally decided to buy some tickets from a scalper. We were confident the tickets were good when he carefully checked our American money. We then joined 20 to 30 thousand of our closest Peru vian friends to listen to Pearl jam play there favorites and"Real Me", by the Who, much to Stowes delight. It was an awesome open venue on a great night! And we did make that morning LAN flight and are in Puno, Lake Titicaca right now, enjoying Coca Tea. ... read more

Peru has been an adventure so far! After our late night flight, we are greeted by Pisco Sours in our hotel and became fast friends! We spent a leisure ly day around Lima and then decided to get to the airport nice and early. I pulled out my stack of confirmations, organized by day (because I'm awesome like that) and handed it to the airline person. Typing. More typing.another person. More typing. "we don't have that flight." Chris and I, "?? But we have this reservation?" Typing, "we don't have that flight, but we will put you on lan, tomorrow". So hey, we were back in Lima. As we were driving back, chris was noticing the Pearl Jam billboards. Finally I spotted one too. "what is today?" "the 18th"... "I think that is what that sign ... read more

In my stop off in Bangkok. I had almost forgotten the Nepali tradition of just standing up when the plane lands....don't worry if we are still taxiing. Those Thai stewardesses have their work cut out for them. :-) Looking forward to sharing my pics and videos with you all...save a seat at the poker table for me. :-) ... read more

Thought I would sum up my last few days here, as I am falling behind on my blogging. Had to spend one day shopping the streets of Kathmandu. It makes you feel rich to take out 1,000s (even if it is in rupees) and go looking around. Found a few new "needed" items to help fill up the next house. Went to a Bhuddist Monestary, really gorgeous architecture everywhere and all the monk were in gold and maroon dress. Got to hear them do some chanting (but hey, there monks, I'm sure this goes on at many times during the day) and walk around the grounds. Went to Monkey Temple. The monkey's are risking losing the place though and it being renamed dog temple. But they all seemed to get along well together. I did the ... read more

Started by day by going to Himalayan java as recommended by Yalamber, he promised their was good coffee there. In a town where 50 percent of the restaurants and hotels serve nescafe (that instant coffee stuff), I didn't get my hopes up. I was happy to find out that Yalamber did not lie! First of all the place is posh, leather furniture, tile floors. And the coffee is great, I dare to say as good (if not better) than its far west rival! Plus they have them beat on prices 50 rupees for a cup of coffee (about 85 cents!) Besides getting hopped up on Nepali coffee, I also visited the Kathmandu region of Patan. After wandering around with my guide book for 5 minutes, I decided I was better off to pay the 4 bucks ... read more
