NickInPoland - Nick Sielicki

As most of you know, last Summer I took part in a Summer Program through my home Institution UWM with which I went to Lublin, Poland for two months. After having fallen in love with Poland, I am now spending my junior year in Warsaw!

As much as I would love to take all of you with me to Poland, that scenario is beyond unrealistic. So, I'm sharing Poland with you all through my pictures and my stories!

Happy Thanksgiving! Europe » Poland » Masovia » Warsaw
HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!! I wish you all a wonderful day with your family and friends! I'm a bit bummed that I'm missing Thanksgiving this year - this is the first time in my 20 years that I'm not going over to Aunt Donna's house for Thanksgiving dinner. I've made some friends from Hungary here. Apparently there is a program through there University that goes to the US/Poand/Hungary. So, they've spent a year in the United States and know all about Thanksgiving and Black Friday. They asked me yesterday if I was going to make my own Thanksgiving here in Warsaw and I [View Full Entry]

Good afternoon! Everything in Poland is going well and I have great news - according to the infamous USOS I now have classes! Therefore, I am now officially a student here...about frickin time, it only took about a month and a half :) Soon I will also have my student ID, which, in Poland is actually useful as opposed to having a student ID at UWM. In Poland, students get discounts in many, many places. The main discount I'm looking forward to is a 50% discount on public transportation in Warsaw. Yesterday my friend Ana (Slovenia) and I decided to take [View Full Entry]

Well hello again! :) I've got some great stories for you all this time :) First - the funny one. So, yesterday as I'm riding in the metro on my way home from class, a mom and her young daughter get on at one of the stops. In every single metro car there is a sign "Po usłyszeniu sygnału dźwiękowego - nie wysiadać!" (After hearing the signal - don't get out ). So, the young girl points to the sign and asks her mother WHY we aren't allowed to get out after the doors beep and begin to close. The mother [View Full Entry]

Good Evening! Or, Dobry Wieczór ;) Again, it's been a while since I've last found a minute to sit down and share some stories with you all. Let's see....whats new whats new... Most of my energy lately has been spent on trying to resolve issues at the University of Warsaw. Like most establishments of higher education, UW has an internet system through which students must register for their courses. However, the system is completely over complicated and very rarely when you click on links does it take you to the page you need. So, technically, according to USOS (the internet system), [View Full Entry]

Good Morning! Again, I'm sorry for the long delay between entries - this week has been a bit crazy over here. On Monday I left Lublin with my friend Ola and her husband Michał to go to Warsaw. We arrived at my building where I will be living for the next two semesters, dropped my things off, and headed to the University to try and figure out what I need to do to sign up for classes. (Yes, school technically starts TODAY but I am still not registered for classes. I am lucky enough to be a part of the faculty [View Full Entry]

POLSKA 004
back in Lublin
in the Old Town, Lublin

Dzień Dobry :) Hope everyone is doing well! So, as I mentioned in the last travel blog, yesterday we went to Ola's Mom's house for dinner. As we were in the car on the way over (it wasn't a long ride at all....5 minutes tops) Ola turns around and says to me "Gotowy jesteś na przesłuchanie, Mikołaju?" (Are you ready for the interrogation?) So I look all confused and I ask "Interrogation of what?" She tells me "Well, my mom is interested to get to meet you - I'm almost certain she's going to ask you a whole bunch of questions." [View Full Entry]

Made it! Europe » Poland » Lublin Province » Lublin
Hey everyone! I'm sorry for the delay in travel blog posts - I'm currently visiting with friends in Lublin (a city which is about 3 hours south-east of Warsaw by car) so my laptop doesn't have access to the internet here. So my flight over went really well aside from the fact that it was supposed to leave at 5:30pm and didn't end up taking off until around 7:45pm or something crazy like that. I finally arrived in Warsaw at about 11:45am local time. So, after getting off the plane of course I had to walk in what seemed like one [View Full Entry]

Hello everyone! I've decided that the easiest way for me to share with all of you my Polish experiences would be to create a travel blog, like this one, where I can post my stories and pictures. My last trip to Poland I was just sending out huge, massive emails and I was sometimes getting them sent back to me in my inbox. So, I figured this way I can send out the link to my travel blog and you can check in whenever you'd like. The plus side to doing it this way is that I can also attach pictures [View Full Entry]
