After passing Geveglija on the border between Macedonia and Greece I soon got to thessaloniki, the second biggest city in Greece. Here I arrived around 21.00 CET, but in Greece its an hour later! I quickly went to refresh in the stations toilets and get changed. The weather in Thessaloniki was hot, even at that time of the evening. It was a funny feeling being in Greece, a country I had always wanted to visit and I was also feeling proud of the fact i had just crossed the balkan where only 13 years before a bloddy war was fought. At the station i had an espresso and a quick snack and took a taxi cab to the busstation where I had to take a bus to Alexandroupolis. I was in Greece but not yet at ... read more
So my balkan trip by train started and i had to sit for almost 3 hours in a train! i slept all the way to Croatia and woke up in the morning just right after the border already in Serbia. The train was heading for Belgrade where i would have to change trains for my train to Skopje in Macedonia. Since i was in the train i enjoyed the views and took pictures, so no long story here, just pictures of what i would see along the way! The weather in serbia was still a bit bad but got better along the way and the more south we got.... read more
Still in the train after Serbia i got to Macedonia. After heavy armed border controlls after Presevo Valley at Kumanovo i could continue towards Skopje and on to Geveglija on the border with Greece. Here i also took pictures and enjoyed the views. A change of climate told me i was getting close to Greece. The weather was getting better, sunnier and hotter. Macedonia was small village after small village and you could see many mosques in every village you passed. Far you could see the mountains and the nature was beautiful. The closer to greece the drier it got.... read more
On August 14th after being in Portugal for work and visiting family some days i started my summer holidays trip! I flew from Lisbon to Amsterdam and from Amsterdam i continued my trip where Adria Airways flew me to ljubljana in Slovenia. Adria operates this route with very small planes and the weather above the alps and in slovenia was bad, rainy and windy so we had quite some turbulence and especially with such a small plane you notice that well. Luckely enough i landed at Brnik Airport in one piece. 2 friends were waiting for me at the airport and drove me to their house. As it was raining so hard we decided to stay in and drink...we just left the house to get a famous "Horse Burger" near Tivoli park. It was also very ... read more
As i always had a weakness for Eastern Europe i always wanted to discover more of this part of the old continent. Since the Low-cost airline SkyEurope has very cheap tickets to central and eastern europe i decided to give my boyfriend a long weekend in Krakow, Poland. From all the eastern european countries Poland has always been the country that least appealed to me. Since from the cities offered by SkyEurope Krakow was the cheapest i decided to read a bit about the city. The image i had of Poland as a grey, east-block country still is true but Krakow seemed to be one of those cities which had kept its old beautiful historic center. It is often reffered to as the second Prague. I decided to book this trip and end of october we ... read more
