Well it has been about a week since I last blogged anything for you guys (both family tuning into our travels and you other travelers looking for tips). Since we last showed you our progress we were in Pak Bara again waiting for transportation to Krabi, which when we got to our bus in Trang, we found out the bus went further west after Krabi so we just stayed on the thing and paid the difference. In that process, there was a Swede and a Kiwi girl who met on Koh Tao and were travelling together trying to make it to Krabi as well, and the minibus company ended up giving us a 'transfer' that was one ticket for all four of us, and with a 2 hour 'layover' in Trang we had no choice but ... read more

no, not that wet cold one from the movie, I am talking about the paradise that is Koh Lipe. Amy and I are currently hanging out in Pak Bara waiting for our air-con, a big deal by the way, minibus to Krabi where we hope to make it to Khao Lak tonight, so we can catch our live aboard boat tomorrow around 3pm. We will be off comm for the next few days, so please be patient with our entries. Since we last talked, we hit the island of Koh Lipe, which is this itty bitty little speck of a tropical paradise with white sand beaches, giant coral reefs in 4 ft of water right off the beach and restaurants that put hammocks and mats out on the sand around sunset so you can eat, drink ... read more

So what kind of person am I? The kind that likes complete isolation and solitude WITHOUT any of the normal amenities found in the good ol USA. well, lemme tell ya, amy and I found out what kind of people we are on Koh Turatao while camping at the national park. Picture yellowstone with monkeys, shared bathrooms and giant spiders in 90% humidity with no fans, all the while having to install our own mosquito net. When we left Pak Bara on the morning of the 30th, we found out there was no way we would get any accomodation on Ko Lipe because of the holiday so we thought we were fortunate to get a "room" at the national park. We found out when we got there that a tent would have been just as good ... read more

Since we last spoke we had just landed in Kanchanaburi and were headed out to the Tiger temple to cheat death and rub a wild beast's belly. We ended up catching a minibus out to the camp for 240 baht and spending 3 hours roaming around this Tiger camp. The rules are VERY strict about what is allowed in both behaviors and clothing color. No reds, oranges or anything else that might look like a nice Farang Steak. It was a bit of an assembly line where they grab your camera away from you and hold your hand, literally, through the whole thing just to make sure you make all the 'correct' motions and behaviors. After Amy and I got our piccs, we headed up to the other section of the camp/temple to see the 2 ... read more

Well it has been 2 days since our ast entry and we are back in Kanchanaburi after spending the night at the Elephant and Friends elephant rehabilitation camp. We have just booked a night on a floating hotel room on the river Kwai for $250 baht. Thats about 8 bucks! We visited the grand palace and emerald buddha 2 days ago which was ok but definetely touristy and crowded. They made me change my shorts into these loaner blue scrubs which looked pretty obnoxious (see pics). After dodging scammers and tuk tuk drivers for the past 2 days, we are definitely getting acclimated to the sights and sounds of Thailand. After the palace we went back to the hotel via water bus and got massages at our hotel for about $30/hr which is pretty steep for ... read more

we are all in tact but one ipod short :( Somewhere between San Francisco and Bangkok even though we only got off the plane for a cleaning my brand new ipod disappeared... The flight left Seattle to San Francisco ontime at 6AM and then a quick layover in San Francisco and we were on the plane and ready for takeoff ten minutes early. The plane fired up the engines and we were off for Toyko - until a sensor went off that the cargo door was open and the takeoff aborted just as we started to lift off... We then got to sit on the tarmac for 2 hours while they "fixed" the sensor. 11 hours later we were in Tokyo and then another 6 hours on the same plane and same seats and we were ... read more
