Mexico City is a weird place. Each street is designated to selling certain products, for example, one street will sell only hardware, the next street only computers and computer products. I had to find a beautician to get waxed and found a street of only beauty shops and hairdressers. It makes shopping easier but it's still weird to see a street of shops selling only door handles. My shitty $200 laptop didn't come with a DVD player so I bought one on Ebay when I was in SF last month and bought some DVD software online so now I can watch [View Full Entry]

We had an early start and took a bus to the Tlatelolco archeological ruins just outside of Mexico City followed by a visit to the Virgin of Guadalupe. Then we took a bus to Teotihuacan to see the pyramids. Our first stop at the site was to learn more about the natural resources of the area. The highlight for me was the Maguey cactus. The tour guide pulled apart one of the leaves and showed us the paper that comes from it which the Aztecs used to write on. Then she pulled the centre out of the leaf and it was [View Full Entry]

We took a four hour bus to Mexico City. The city is so crowded and dirty, I'm looking forward to moving on in four days time. I definitely prefer Guadalajara to Mexico City. In the evening we went to Lucha Libre, the Mexican wrestling. The only thing I knew about it was that the wrestlers wear masks. I was hoping it wouldn't be like stupid WWF in America and I was pleasantly surprised. I would go definitely go back to watch it again. Lots of people in the audience come dressed in the favourite wrestler's mask. Tiffany and I bought a [View Full Entry]

We took a one and a half hour bus to San Miguel de Allende. It's another beautiful colonial town. We spent most of the day at La Gruta, a hot springs spa twenty minutes out of town. It was a divine way to spend the day. [View Full Entry]

Today I had the full day to myself. I made an early start to the Museo y Casa de Diego Rivera. It's the house Diego and his family lived in for the first five years of his life before moving to Mexico City. They've restored his house beautifully on the first floor, the middle floor shows his works and the top floor displays the work of other artists. The middle aged man guiding people to each floor pointed to my hair, kissed his fingers and said 'guapa'. It appears people from all walks of life like the new 'do. I took [View Full Entry]

We took a four hour bus to Guanajuato. The time the bus was great, the toilet was in good condition and they gave us goodie bags with snacks. On the downside, they made us sit through Mel homophobe Gibson's "The Patriot". So if you're ever having to catch a bus around Mexico, check to see if "Primero Plus" does your route. Guanajuato is absolutely beautiful. It's a colonial town but has a large university so it also has a young, bohemian feel to it. Lots of quirky cafes, bars and unusual shops. I've even seen some Mexican goths! I read that [View Full Entry]

I'll be on the Miskito Coast from mid-October to late-November. Hopefully the kids at Mama Tara's will be ok. SAN PEDRO SULA, Honduras - Planes shuttled hundreds of tourists from the island resorts of Honduras and Belize in a desperate airlift Monday as Hurricane Felix's pounding rain and punishing winds bore down on the Central American coast. The powerful, Category 4 storm spurred Grupo Taca Airlines to provide special free flights to the mainland. Planes were quickly touching down and taking off again to scoop up more tourists. Some 1,000 people were evacuated from the Honduran i [View Full Entry]

Today the others went on a Tequila tour. I decided to stay in the city to have a look around by myself. I'm missing my alone time terribly. I also managed to find a UPS to finally send Libby my cowboy boots, I've been lugging them around all week. That's my last big purchase to send home, it cost me US$120 to send because of the weight. Next door to our hotel is a shop called Queer Nation. It has a cafe, homo art gallery and store selling rainbow merchandise. It's like a little oasis. There are lots of body piercing [View Full Entry]

We had a six hour drive to Guadalajara. This bus trip was the best so far, although the toilet situation was still terrible. Guadalajara is a beautiful city. Sid said there is competition between Guadalajara and Mexico City as to which is the better city. From what I've seen, I prefer Guadalajara to Mexico City; it's big and modern but clean and not so jam-packed full of people. [View Full Entry]

I went on two dives today; one reef and one drift. It was just me and the dive leader, Fausto. Unlike Australian dive leaders where they point to sea life, here they dig for it and pull it out. As was the case when Fausto dug around under a rock for an octopus and pulled it out. The poor thing must have been traumatised because it released so much ink to defend itself, I could barely see him. Then Fausto put it on my hand and asked me to pat it for a photo (I haven't developed the roll yet but [View Full Entry]
