Today was the all day dive. We were going to Hin Daeng Hin Muang a 2 and a half hour boat ride awayWe met at the jetty at 745 and after a slight delay we set sail at 0815. There were only 11 divers so we had the run of the large boat .The weather was excellent i.e. flat sea so armed with a good book I settled in for the 70km trip. This was a 3 tank dive we didn39t get back till 1900.

Having sluiced away all the salt water I39d accumulated we made or way up to the Sea View at the top of the resort. We wanted to have scout out this restaurant for another night so it was a good excuse to sit at the bar and sip a Negroni. We made our way back to the seafood restaurant on the beach where we shared some excellent barbequed prawns and a whole silver snapper. The next day was a 39

I39d packed all my gear the night before so I39d set the alarm for 0715 giving me enough time to get ready and then walk along the beach to the jetty where our boat was moored. We were soon joined by the other divers the dive guides and the crew. It was an hour to the dive site so we settled in with chocolate croissans bananas and hot coffee this is the life.Because of the unseasonal wea

We awoke on our first morning at Pimalai to a sound that brought fear into my heart... it was rainingThis was not good though at least we could still walk about in shorts and a tshirt once it had stopped which it did after 30 minutes.Sunday was the lazy day after breakfast excellent we headed for the beach and despite the fact it was a little cloudy you still needed sun tan lotion to avoid

Before I start I39ve now loaded some photos with previous blogsA lazy morning spent having a late ish breakfast and then a lie down by the pool at the hotel. We were picked up for the transfer to the airport at mid day and made our way through the customary heavy traffic to the airport. The flight took of on time and we landed at Krabi at 1615. The hotel staff metb us at the airport and we w

Having consumed lunch we made our way back to the car and then it was off to the Elephant Sanctuary. This took about 30 minutes and the journey took us ever deeper into the rural backwaters of Thailand. We were now climbing above the plains and into the mountains that border Thailand Myanmar Burma which made it so difficult to build the railway and cause so much suffering. When we arrived we we

After the sober reflection of the war cemetery it was back to the car and a short drive to the Bridge over the River Kwai. The driver dropped us of and with the guide we made our way to the site of the bridge. The guide explained how the the Thai government allowed the japanese to build th railway as they felt indebted to them for helping get rid of the French before WW2. Not all Thais felt the sa

Up at 630 body clock still on UK time so in need of caffeine. Breakfast in the restaurant consisted of amongst the usual cereals and stuff a Chinese croissant an acquired taste that I can only liken to a deep fried donut with a background taste of special fried rice .We met up with our guide in the hotel lobby note to Trailfinders the guide had 730 we had 800 not a good start as it could h

Bangkok airport in an hour

Despite the best efforts of the M25 we made it to terminal 3 at heathrow in good time. Security etc was very quick leaving us enough time for a tagliata and a cheeky primitivo large glass of. Flight was called on time and we assembled at the departure gate . Joining us were the normal travelling folk but also as it was Bangkok an array of distinctly seedy looking blokes. One of them made the c

As we had the hire car for 4 days we decided to make use of it and try somewhere else for lunch. We39d been recommend a place in St Jean Bay called Nikki Beach. Not to be confused with a beach for naked people as the American family had done the previous day when we were discussing it as a possible destination for them and their family. I39m not quite sure what they think i was proposingWe

So the only thing i had to do on Sunday evening was to pick up the hire car from outside the hotel. Simples one would have thought well yes if you39ve remembered your driving licence it isWell i hadn39t and the valet was off in 30 minutes and i needed the car the next morning to get to Gustavia where I was due to meet the dive boat. First time I39d flown Air France. score 7 out of 10.We landed in St Marteen on time and collected our boarding pass for the connection to st barths. We had to wait behind a lady who had a French identity card an out of date passport and a current South African passport. Bit dodgy if you ask me probably how the other half

Alarm rings at 430 am after what seems like only 2 hours sleep. Out of hotel and into terminal by 5 am so the hotel does have a plus point. At this time of the morning the queue is minimal so we39re soon through security and sitting in Costa with a flat white and a almond croissant. The caffeine certainly helps. The weather is foul I hope the Ladies from Aston Abbotts enjoyed Royal Ascot a
