We spent a day in San Salvador walking around in the old center which is really old and not well maintained. So apart from the cathedral and the palacio nacional there was not much to visit. So we went to the artesania market and bought some more souvenirs, this will be the last bit because we have allready a looooott! The next day we went to Santa Ana, a medium sized town with a centre which still has beautiful old buildings. So after visiting the centre we went to have lunch and do some shopping for dinner, because we had a really nice hostel with a kitchen with more pots, pans and other things to cook than most people have in Holland! The following day we went to parque nacional los volcanos to climb the Santa ... read more

So we arrived at 5:30 pm in San Salvador and took a taxi to the hostel that we had arranged from Managua. And it proved to be not the best decision to book this hostel in advance. It was really back to basics. For $22 we got a minature room, with a not really good working fan. We got our own bathroom but to go to the toilet we had to step through the shower. And the toilet did not fill itself anymore, so everytime you flushed you had to open it and make sure it would fill for the next time. And when you took a shower the water run int the room! Really back to basics. But a little to much for our taste so the next nights we spend in a much better ... read more

When we arrived in Managua we walked to a hostel which was full but the next one had a room for us. A room with own bathroom but the room was very small and there were no real windows so it was really hot in the room. We walked to a shopping mall to find an atm and a foodcourt. We had our first meal in Nicaragua in this mall while enjoying karaoke. Really fun! Next day we walked to Budget rent a car and got ourselves a red Toyota Yaris. We agreed to rent it for 16 days. So all the paperwork done, time for some cruising. Back to the hostel, got our stuff and drove off.  We first drove to Matagalpa. Well that was our plan but we had just left the city and ... read more

Luis, the owner of the hostel in David brought us to the busterminal where we waited in line to buy a ticket to San Jose. The computer did not work so everything had to be written down. So in half an hour the lady at the office sold 3 tickets. Nice speed! When we had our tickets we waited for the bus and we left a litte after 8.30. On our way to the border. At the border we got out of the bus, took our bags and stood in line. Not the right line, we were send to another place, which was also not the right place and we ended up in a room where our bags were on the floor in the middle and a dog checked them. Then a lady came and looked ... read more

So we were on our way to the airport. We arrived there at Hente time, so we were really early...We went to the bagage drop off and dropped our stuff there. We allready had checked in through the internet so that was easy. We thought.... The lady at the desk wanted to see our onward ticket from Panama. We do not have one because we go to Costa Rica over land. So a nice discussion starts and in the end we still have to buy an onward ticket. Really nice those American Allianced airlines. So we went with the lady from Copa Airlines to another office and they called again for us to make sure we really had to have an onward ticket. She even asked if we would really need it as Dutch travellers. But ... read more

So in our last story we were about to leave Equador and fly to Cali. We flew this part because the southern region of colombia can still be dangerous for hijacked busses. And if we would have to limit our travelling to daytime we would not have enough time. So we left Quito in the afternoon and went to the airport. At the airport we had to wait about an hour before the check in finally opened. When we checked ourselves in and tried to walk away some ground staff came after us. We still had to pay departure tax. According to us we had paid that allready because from the 9th of February this tax was included in the ticket price. But after discussing for about 45 minutes we paid the 80 dollars so we ... read more

We left in the morning by taxi to the busterminal of transportes Loja. Here we waited for our bus to leave. The bus left on time so that was a good start of the day. After a little drive through a really poor part of Peru we arrived at the border. Everybody went out of the bus and was send to the left. For us only to hear that we had to get another form from at the other side of the road. We got this form and were registered and could go back to immigration to get stamped out. No big deal and the next stop was the other side of the bridge to get stamped in. Well not really stamped, Ecuador printed our entry stamp in our pasport. That is the first country that ... read more

We left the Lazy Dog Inn late afternoon and got a taxi back to Huaraz. We dropped our bags of at the terminal of Movil Tours and went further by taxi to the Plaza des Armas in Huaraz. We did a little bit of walking and again looking for some nice souvenirs before we went to a restaurant owned by a Belgium guy to have some dinner. The Belgium guy is the boyfriend of the German girl who is an educational volunteer at the Lazy Dog Inn. so that was how we knew about the restaurant, it was way over our budget to eat there but it was a nice meal, and we got to talk Dutch! After dinner we took a taxi back to the terminal and waited for our bus. The overnight busride was ... read more

So we left La Paz in the morning. We went by taxi to the busterminal and took the bus to Puno which was nice on time. We went to the same bordercrossing so we knew how it worked at this place and where to find all the immigration offices. So that was easy, it again took us over 1 hour to get all the stamps, but it still goes quicker than entering the USA! We were the first ones to get all the stamps and this time we did not have to search for the bus but it was right in front of the Peruvian immigration office. So we waited in the bus for the rest of the people to arrive. After the border crossing we went through to Puno. In Puno we spend only 1 ... read more

When we booked our flight to Santa Cruz we booked it as a stopover flight. So our stopover of 5 days was in Santa Cruz and our flight continued the second of january to La Paz. Emma ,the Irish girl we met, got a flight around the same time as we did so we went to the airport together. We were supposed to leave at one and so did Emma's flight but although Emma was boarding at 12.30 for us nothing was happening. After being sent to another gate were still nothing happend we sat down and waited for information. After 1 hour they told us we would leave at 15:45. Almost 3 hours delayed. But we got a free lunch! In the end we left at four pm and after a little less then 1 ... read more
