With the prospect of a long weekend over Easter and guaranteed bad weather Sally and I looked on sky scanner for cheap flights to a destination neither of us had been to before. Ryanair came up trumps with a good deal to Stockholm and we duly booked the flights not wanting to miss out on what we perceived to be a bargain! We hadn't been before and had heard great things about the city so couldn't wait to get out there! Only after the flights were paid for did we realise that what we had saved on the air fairs would be eaten up (and more) by everything else we would have to spend! It isn't often that you go anywhere more expensive than the UK/London but Stockholm was something else! Arriving late on Thursday night ... read more

Not sure if a ski trip can be classed as proper traveling but we did all jump on a plane and the spirit of adventure was certainly alive amongst the group for most of the week! So, I was luckily enough to be invited into a group of hard core seasonaires and long term friends for what promised to be a week of extreme skiing and hard core partying. 15 intrepid skiers/boarders traveled from far and wide, well the North and South, to Grenoble - the famous gateway to the Alps. We all met up in the beautiful surrounds of the coach park and after being robbed of 10 Euros for a ham sandwich introductions were made, we exchanged pleasantries, and we embarked on the longest transfer possible. In the end it turned out to be ... read more

Rather than the usual blogs on small weekend breaks and shopping trips to Tesco's which we have been boring you with since being back in the real world we have finally been somewhere of note to warrant a "Travel Blog", I hope. Whilst the destination is far flung our traditional methods of traveling are evolving somewhat and we appear to have grown out of "backpacking" in its truest form and are now experiencing places in a bit more luxury than on previous longer trips - well almost anyway. So what to do with only 4 weeks holiday a year? Numerous options were on the table for our "proper" holiday this year but we finally settled on Cambodia as we'd heard lots of good things about the place. True to form we left the detailed planning to ... read more

A quick stop over in Bangkok en route to and from Cambodia! Huge developments in the last 12 years since we were last there! Not least a very smart new airport and a sprawling backpacker area which we found ourselves in on the first night. Headed straight to the border the next day so didn't fully appreciate the city but time wasn't on our side. On the way back we managed to meet up with George and Jib for an amazing meal on the 17th floor of one of the new (and many shopping centres). The food was excellent (as chosen by Jib) and views even better - Bangkok is huge. Unfortunately the shops had closed by the time we finished but we did manage to by a T-shirt from one of the markets lining the ... read more

Travelling with Graham and Lynnie, friends we had met travelling in South America, we made a 3am start to the glorious Stansted. The early morning paid dividends when we arrived at Krakow airport and were greeted with glorious sunshine - yippee! We made our way to our hostel - Elephant on the Moon - which was situated on the outskirts of Krakow town centre. It was more like a B&B with spotless rooms and a gargantuous breakfast awaiting our arrival, complete with tinned Spam and various Polish processed food delicacies which the brave amongst us tried. Not to waste any time, we parked our bags and walked into the centre of Krakow along the River Wisla which meanders around the city. Our first stop was a climb up to Wawel Hill, home to a grand castle, ... read more

Following on from a fantastic wedding (we have to say that as it was our own) Sally and I embarked on our shortest longish-haul trip ever - only 6 days in Morocco! Normally we'd have just bought our return flights and worked things out on arrival but as it was our honeymoon we decided to pre book and make the most of the short time we had away. Sally found the most amazing Riad - I would have been happy with a dorm bed in a hostel but had to concede to a proper honeymoon with private rooms and an en suite bathroom! What we had booked though was in another league...link to website is below Tchaikana I just had a note back from the owners saying that to encourage more visitors in June and August ... read more

With some of the best pre season snow in years the decision to ski over New Year looked like a good one! Jo, Polly, Sally, Lucy, James, Paul, Dave, Nick and Nick Zveg - headed to Argentiere. Blues skies and sunshine greeted us on arrival with the promise of some new snow mid week and then more sunshine. The apartment in Argentiere had its new third bedroom and was surprisingly comfortable for 10 of us over new year. Check out the link below for more information on Chamonix and details of the apartment which is available to rent at pretty good rates! Chamsnow The skiing was great. James picked up snowboarding quickly, Lucy improved on what she'd done before and was going down a Red run on day two. All were skiing the Grand Montets during ... read more

Whilst I still have a slight tan and memories from our recent travels fresh in my mind, I thought it best to update this blog...the title reminds me of the Lou Bega classic that also serves well (with a little adaptation) in making a tenuous link to our holiday. Jambo meaning 'Hello' in Swahili and Number 5 referring to the 'big 5' we saw on holiday, anyway I digress (heh, that’s never happened before!) After an overnight flight to Nairobi, we touched down at 6.30am expecting a 6 hour wait for our transfer flight to Dar Es Salam. Luckily we noticed that there was in fact a connecting flight in just over an hour, after being told to go to various gates we spoke to lady who even though did not seem to do much organised ... read more

We're a bit late in publishing this and weren't going to bother but our blog hits are a bit low at the moment so here goes! Back in August we braved the scorching heat of the British summer and decided to go camping. Armed with shorts, T-shirts, Factor 50 sun cream and Mosquito nets we hurtled down the M4 early on Saturday morning in glorious sunshine ready for a great weekend! There was one small flaw in our plan - we were going to Wales, and our campsite was called "Hill Top Farm". Typically as soon as we had crossed the severn bridge and paid our £5 to get into the stunning country the inevitable happened????? It started to rain! Not just a light shower but more like a torrential down pour with hurricane force winds ... read more

The second break of the year took us to France to celebrate Lisa and Peter's wedding in Provence. We flew on Friday morning from a sunny Stanstead with the exceptional Ryan Air to Marseille and surprisingly arrived in glorious sunshine - it wasn't to last. Hiring a car along with Betty we drove to Lorgues along typically dangerous French Auto Routes and once off the main road through picturesque villages surrounded by vineyards to our hotel in Lorgues. Parking outside we were a bit dubious as to what Sally had booked - it looked like a typical French town house in a back street. However, once inside we were amazed at how nice the place was. There were only 5 rooms and all had been booked by the wedding party. We were to share it with ... read more
