About myself? Well, I enjoy Wendell Berry, which tells you something about me. And these are just some of his words, which will tell you more about me:
No individual life is and end in itself. One can live fully only by participating fully in the succession of generations, in death as well as in life. Some would say (and I am one of them) that we can live fully only by making ourselves as answerable to the claims if eternity as to those of time...I am aware how brash this commentary will seem, coming from me... The issue I am attempting to deal with, however, is not knowledge but ignorance. In ignorance I believe I may pronounce myself a fair expert. - Life is a Miracle, pages 8 and 10.

Hello friends, I hope this blog finds you in good spirits and good health! Well, I am back in the swing of urban Rio and recovered from my harsh transition back into urbanity. Luckily, I have been relying on some old friends to help with that: cerveja, surfing and food. The surf at Arpoador has been pretty good the beginning of this week. Monday we saw some big swells pushing through and the local crowd was ripping. They, the waved tapered off but since I had not seen much of the city besides Copacabana and Ipanema, this week has been filled [View Full Entry]

Hello friends, I hope this blog finds you in good spirits and good health! In 1963 the sleepy fishing village of Armacao de Buzios was nothing more than an out of the way and unknown paradise, a small jetty of peninsula extending into the Atlantic ocean surrounded by picturesque beaches and sea cliffs. At that point the population could not have been more than 500 a number that was mostly made up of small fishing huts and a few pousadas. There was no running water or electricity and only one phone. Since its “discovery” (post indigenous habitation) Buzios was inhabited first [View Full Entry]

Greetings again from Rio! I hope this email finds you all in good spirits and good health. As some of you know there is a sport here that is so closely watched, followed and played that its presence is intricately woven into the national psyche of Brazil. This is not surprising since Brazil is the only country to have won five World Cup matches (1958, '62, '70, '94 and '02). From a young age, children learn to value a football (soccer ball) and pitch skills like a hoard of Spanish gold. It seems as though any stranger can become a friend [View Full Entry]

Greetings from Rio de Janeiro, I hope this entry finds you in high spirits and good health! It has been a long time since I last wrote an entry, I guess that means it has been too long since I last adventured! Okay, so that is a lie. Anyhow, I am currently adventuring in Rio de Janeiro (city), Brazil and what an amazing place it is! Being winter the air is currently a balmy temperature of 75 degrees with 80 percent humidity and the water is around 60 degrees. Unbelievably pleasant. Rio de Janeiro is certainly a cidade maravilhosa (marvelous city) [View Full Entry]

Hello wonderful friends and family, I hope this entry finds you in good health and good spirits! I am currently in Lima winding down the trip and getting set to come home tomorrow late in the evening! I have had a wonderful time in South America but I am excited to be coming back for a spell and to see you all! I know I have posted a few blogs about my travels recently as I catch up on all that I have been seeing and experiencing. I left you last in Puerto Iguazu and the brilliant waterfalls and beautiful [View Full Entry]

Hello friends and family, I hope this entry finds you all in good health and good spirits! Though currently in Lima, this entry recaps some time in the north of Argentina, a beautiful and friendly landscape ranging from the cow pastures and plains north of Buenos Aires to the hot and humid region around Poasadas to the very northeast corner of the country where dense subtropical vegetation bask in the heat and rain. Corrientes was the first stop after an overnight ride from Buenos Aires that thankfully was absolutely nothing like the weaving and waving gut-churning adventure in Peru from [View Full Entry]

Hello friends, I hope this email finds you in good spirits and good health! This blog was composed in La Poloma, Uruguay on the Atlantic Coast. I am told that this tiny beach town booms in the summer with Argentine, Brazilian and Uruguayan tourists as well as others from all over the world coming to surf. Still, I find it hard to believe when most of the businesses and hotels in town are all boarded up for the oncoming winter and it is still solidly fall. Lucky for me the beaches are not only completely deserted, populated by mostly fishermen [View Full Entry]

Hello my friends, I hope this entry finds you in good spirits and good health! I left you last in Patacancha on the evening of the tenth. On the morning of the eleventh we began our trek to Machu Picchu and back to civilization first evidenced by the dirt road on which we left Patacancha, not the hearding trails we had been following before. Of course the trip was beautiful but not in the rugged, untouched way that the world of Huacahuasi was. It is amazing what a road, or lack there of, can do to one´s sense of space [View Full Entry]

Hello my friends, how are you? I hope this email finds you in good spirits and good health! I am currently in Buenos Aires, a wonderful and lively city and the capital of Argentina. However, this entry will be focused on Machu Picchu and may be quite long for I had many amazing experiences on my way from Cuzco, Peru to Machu Picchu and you may hear about many of them! Lucky you! Just kidding, you may stop reading, of course, any time you wish. The journey began on the most important day of the year, April 9th, my birthday. [View Full Entry]

Hola Amigos, I am writing to you from Cuzco, Peru, in the Sacred Valley of the Inkas. Cuzco is the gateway to the lost city of the Inkas, Machu Picchu. The city of Cuzco (Qosq´o in Quechuan) is located in the Sacred Valley of the Rio Urubamba and is believed to be located in the longest continually inhabited place on Earth. What does that mean? Well, it means that archeologists can trace signs of non nomadic peoples here further back than any other area. The valley is absolutely beautiful, sitting at an elevation of approximately 3300 meters. The city sits [View Full Entry]
