Greetings all, So am now back on my outdoor course in Devon and it is getting a tad intensive. Considering it is called the; "Intensive Outdoor Course". Perhaps it is for the best. Anyway, I thought I would write in a little bit more detail of my last bit of travel in Slovenia. Slovenia is a baby little country, although it has more than its fair share of proper mountains. Most people have never heard of it or mistake it for the equally small country of Slovakia. Its smallness in size is reflected in many things not least of all its airport. Heathrow, the biggest airport the UK, has many cafes, restaurants and bars. Ljubliana makes do with one. Heathrow has countless gates for checking in. Ljubliana has 4. Two of which never seem to have ... read more

So Merry xmas and all that stuff to one and all. Xmas 2006 finds me in Slovenia with my girlfriend Marta. It is a beautiful country and I am very drawn to it. However, life normally finds me in Tavistock. On my outdoor leaders course with some of the finest misfits, rougues and sweet talkers the world ever did see. I am there to learn and make a change in my life and so are they. Granted not everyone cares for every person there. But I feel a deep respect for all those many personalities and I think it's fair to say we will all be influenced by one another. We all prefer good memories than bad. So I think we will all be sad when the course is done. Going on the course was a ... read more

November 18th 2006

Hello all, So the month of November finds me on an outdoor leadership course in DEvon and Cornwall. Hopefully this will lead to a career along these lines. Or at the very least a great experience. It certainly has been a tough experience and each night I have been knackered. Its been really tough. The first week saw us all go on a group development course. It was fun. Abseiling down cliffs. Running through bogs, and I mean real daddy swampy bogs, hiking on Dartmoor and diving into freezing cold weirs. I guess the week was to show us what we would be expected to do when we all enter the industry. Certainly doesnt seem to be a boring industry to get involved in. This last week has been all rock climbing and to be honest ... read more

It was a wonderful sunny day when I arrived in Split . After such a wonderful stay in Dubovnik I was hoping for more of the same and Split certainly seemed to have the credentials. Split is home to the Diocene palace. A UNESCO site but before joining such a grandiose society it was in fact the retirement home for a Roman Emperor. Cant quite remember his name but I do know he was Roman. The town is surrounded by barren grey mountains to the east and to the west the Adriatic sea and some of Croatias many islands. Inluding the famous Hvar island, home to some of the richest people on the planet. Since I am not rich, Hvar was definately not in the plans but split was. I have to say at first I ... read more

Greetings all, about ten days ago I got off the bus from Mostar. On Croatia's South Eastern it is on a thin slice of land. Bosnia's mountainous triangle of a country crutching it up against the Adriatic coast. Montenegro is unknown to many but rests just a few kilometers away from the »Pearl of the Adriatic«. More commonly known as Dubrovnik. I was immediately confronted by elderly ladies touting a bedroom in their houses. A great thing about Croatia is the touts that await you at the bus stations. In certain countries in the world the touts usually range from cheating, lying, stealing bastards, to those who wont leave you alone for five minutes peace and sees you as their best mate ever. In Croatia if the tout has grey hair and chainsmokes you can generally ... read more

October 1st 2006

Hello all, So Bosnia. What a country. Or should I say countries? On the train from Zagreb to Sarajevo we passed through the northern part of the coutry and then headed south by bus through Mostar to Croatia. The geography is so different. The north is really green. Many fields, all growing corn by the looks of things, with the very occasional forested hill standing out. I would say it wasnt so much different from the south of Slovenia except Bosnia is more wild. It gives the impression that if the people were to leave tommorow it wouldnt take nature long to come and reclaim the land. The south, from Sarajevo, is much drier and the trees are slender and grow from the steep rocky mountains that are huge. Towering over wide flat valleys, like Mostar, ... read more

So have just spent a lovely ten days with Marta in Slovenia. What a country. What people. Being such a small baby little place you would think there is nothing there. Actually I think many just pass straight through on their way to Austria, Italy or Croatia. This is good as I get to have it all to myself. Marta came to meet me at the train station at some ungodly hour of the morning. What a sweet thing she is. Albeit a rather tired thing also. We then went onto spend such a wonderful time together. Her friends are great, Slovenians come across as a little reserved and conservative to begin with but they soon loosen up and I found them to be probably the generous giving people I have ever met. But I jump ... read more

Hello all from Slovenia, No that is not part of France in case any of you are wondering. And its Slovenia, between Italy and Croatia, not Slovakia next to the Czech republic. Quite a small place really. So France and the walking is all done. Need time to digest but all in all it was a great experience and although my French is not good, probably not even average, I can understand a great deal and can even hold a basci conversation. I like to bring up the Zidane headbut as often as possible. Fortunately for the French I then point out that in next years Rugby world cup this will be almost legal and perhaps Zidane was getting his practice in early. The last few days on the Chemin were really difficult. Partly because I ... read more

Hello all, From the lovely city of Mossaic. the weather for today will be; burning hot. Yes now I have decended out of the mountains the environment has reverted to farmland, not so disimilar to Britain except the hills are a tad small and certainly more numerous. Not to mention probably steeper from time to time. I dont mean to go on but it is roasting around these parts. Thus I have started walking ever earlier in the morning. Left before 6 today and the other day I left at 5:15am. Think that should count more as night than morning. It was quite a day. TO spice things up I took a shortcut around Cahors. Unfortunately a very long day became excessively long, long story but suffice to say I went the wrong way. About 45kms ... read more

Greetings all from the historic village of Conque, Where the hell is that? You may ask. Why in southern France of course, not so sure myself. Anyway this place is great and Ive decided to stay here the night to use the facilities, they have English newspapers and internet, my right leg is playing up a bit and I think a couple of days easy walking will do it the trick. So a lot has happened. Although I said I wouldnt compare the Chemin, camino in the French tongue, to the one in Spain I cant help but think about it alot. Perhaps it was because I walked with and made so many great friends in SPain that I feel the pilgrims here are no way near as friendly and as wonderful. I would even go ... read more
