Friday November 7, 2008 (Note from Monsta: Please keep in mind that the following entries of my time with Jeff have been written post fact. I have noticed when I proofread the following entries that the references to my captain have been coloured by the eventual falling out we had. I wanted to let you know that I don’t think he is really that bad a bloke and there are many more positive references to him in my hand written diaries that I kept while we where on board. Generally we had a ball together. Not that it really matters but [View Full Entry]

Darwin Harbour sunset
Fun in the arvo sun
Honking into harbour

7.50pm NT Time Wednesday November 5, 2008 I’m warning you straight up there are no pictures today. Sorry but I have just had the most amazing, friendly and inspirational chat with a couple of blokes. I wasn’t going to spoil it all by ripping out my camera and going “OK fellas now you gotta smile for my blog.” But let me start at the beginning. This morning was not unlike any other morning I have spent in Darwin. By now you know my routine so there seems little benefit in repeating the whole shit, shave and shower narrative. Being that I [View Full Entry]

10.00pm NT Time Tuesday November 4, 2008 I’m struggling to wake up of late and this morning was no exception. I decided a shower would be the way to go to clear the sleep from my eyes. Showers are funny beasts up here in the NT. You have lots of them but mostly for psychological reasons. Let me explain. You see, everyday I would have the standard shower before bed and again in the morning and sometimes may even slip an extra one or two in during the day. In reality the only one that is in anyway effective is the [View Full Entry]

Scooter Boy!! Oceania » Australia » Northern Territory » Darwin
8.00pm NT Time Monday November 3, 2008 I slept in a little this morning. I had originally planned to be at the scooter hire by 8.30am when it opened. If you factor in the walk that’s an ETD of 7.30am. It must have been 9 when I woke. Guess I’m properly over my Insomnia again. So quickly I followed my morning routine. Donning the same clothes as yesterday because they didn’t smell too bad, I brushed, shaved and sprayed all the appropriate places and took off with I-pod at max volume for the walk. It must have been sometime after ten [View Full Entry]

The Map's Out

9.00pm NT Time Sunday November 2, 2008 My crusty eyelids cracked open slightly to check weather it was light or not and immediately shut again when they detected day out there. At least I had managed to finally fall asleep although it took many, many beers and some herbal remedies to get me there. I wonder what the physiology of insomnia is. If evolution is the ultimate factor in determining the existence of any condition and Darwin theory is actually Darwin fact. To what purpose does not being able to sleep serve??? Mmmmmmm deep hahaha. Either way I had managed some [View Full Entry]

Insomnia! Oceania » Australia » Northern Territory » Darwin
There is not a lot I can write about this day… in fact I’m going to just directly rip off Drapht and quote a song of his. For those who know it, sing along and for those who don’t, then it’s really a bit like a poem or something and it just about perfectly fits with my mind state over the last day and a bit. Aaaaggggggggggggggggghhhhhh I feel like a zombie, slumber’s beyond me, nights getting longer, long as Luke Longley, smallest sound is like a kombi van, back firing, was a comedy camera hired up in on this nightmare, [View Full Entry]

7.02pm NT Time Thursday October 30, 2008 Be warned peeps it's another long one. While I have you all, can I send out a extra big special thankyou to everyone for the love and encouragement. It really does mean a lot to me. Not a whole lot to report about today. Last night was a clammy, still night of deep exhausted sleep. The kind of sleep where you lay funny on your arm and it is so numb the only way to move it is with your other arm. Though apparently I still managed to do some sleep texting, messaging Melissa [View Full Entry]

Beer O'clock
Fashion Victim
Launched onto the Finnis

10.35pm NT Time Tuesday October 28, 2008 Sleep eludes me. I can usually drift off with a minimum of effort when in a moving vehicle but not tonight. The closer I get to Darwin the more the nerves are kicking in to thwart any chance I have of restful slumber. Is it worry over the imminent execution off the Bali bombers and how it will affect my travels through Indonesia? Is it the fact that after Darwin I will be leaving my home country all together and have to start facing the reality of this Megadventure I have set in motion? [View Full Entry]

8.54am Tuesday October 28, 2008 Well I managed to get on the net without hassling Donnie too much and ended up spending the day, until early arvo, getting some very valuable research time in. I am a bit confused as to what I will do when I hit Darwin. Do I risk travelling through Indo with all the tension that is building over the execution of the Bali Bombers? Do I abandon my goal of no air travel and just fly direct to Singapore and start from there? It’s not a decision I want to make lightly and so far the [View Full Entry]

Train Tripping again! Oceania » Australia » Queensland » Mt Isa
2.30pm Sunday October 26, 2008 I’m on the Inlander train today, making the trip from Townsville to Mt Isa. It’s pretty much like the Sunlander only about half the cars. I have my own cabin again and they have the same club car and facilities it’s just that instead of Sexagenarians proliferating the passenger list, it is now Miner and Farmer looking dudes that dominate. Still everyone is curious as to who the bloke with the backwards cap is. I get the impression everyone kind of knows the other. They all have that look about them, like they have sat in [View Full Entry]
