Stabilizing at 4000 Asia » Nepal » Himalayas
Departing:Kote/3400M/630MB/shiny We are following the Inku valley up to basecamp. We stopped by 3800m for lunch and kept going up. We stopped by a monastery to deliver devotions to a statue of Buddha which refused to be removed from the cave inwhich three monks had deposited it to shelter their night. Upon our arrival in Tangnog, I fell sick. Arriving:Tangnog/4100M/610MB/cloudy/nausea [View Full Entry]

When Snow comes to town Asia » Nepal » Himalayas
Let it snow
Let it snow
loved my fleece that night
Departing:Kholakharka/4100M/620MB/snowy Early morning wake-up brought a surprise to us. During the night, it had been snowing and freezing. All equipment left outside of our sheltering tents was ice rigid and covered with a thin white, christal shining film of ice. We zigzaged down the forest again and we had lunch in a place that we all agreed to call the Jungle. The closest place in my souvenir to match that place is Louisiana's Bayou. At the end of the « descent »,we ve reached the Inku again. This time, the river runs down a valley much larger that shows the work of glaciers. [View Full Entry]

Sleepy Hollow
Sleepy Hollow
A last tree lost in the fog
Departing:Cholemkharka/3400M/660MB/light clouds. Certainly the most demanding zigzag done (as far I am concerned). Leaving in the morning upto a first pass at 4100m and then up to 4300m where we had lunch (lunchbag day that time) in the smoggy and fresh air. The way down via Panch Pokari (trad: 5 lakes) revealed its turquoise lakes surrounded with exvotos. If the way up was rather a pain, the way down touched to exotism and mysticism as the panorama revealed a mysty majestic place. Arriving:Kholakharka/4000M/650MB/cloudy/coldstroke [View Full Entry]

Such a nice moment
Departing:Nazingkata/2650M/780 MB/cloudy We keep on going up. We obviously have gained in strength and fitness for that we arrived in the surrounding of our lunchbrake plazza far to early according to Buddha. So we had a break around ten by the small village of Chharakhor. I keep a touching souvenir of that place because of a real vue of what could be life for the poorest Nepalis. I had the pleasure to experience drinking Nepali Salted Tea prepared for us by a very shy lady in her « Hut ». How could I forget the roof made of branches darkened by the tar [View Full Entry]

our first siteseeing of 6000m high
Departing:Ponggom/2800 M/740 MB/ cloudy. Upon our departure, we had the pleasure to discover a view on the first 6000ms to be seen: the Kimbu and Douga. Our trek zigzag brought us back to the 3000m to have us going straight down to 2020m where we had lunch and where we crossed the Inku river for the first time. On our way down , in a glimpse, we had our first observation of Mera Peak. The crossing on that bridge far above (not that much) the Inku was more than a map keastone to me: the crossing of the Inku ment that [View Full Entry]

Hiting the 3000 Asia » Nepal » Himalayas
Departing:Pui Ya/2700 m/730 MB/rainy and foggy. After an hour on an obviosly daily runned trail, ours started to quit the stream and invited us for our first real sloap. An our later or so, we reached our first pass at 3000m. Team Pïcture there. Down to our lunchin at 2600m, we have the pleasure to see our first sunny noon. To short thought. And we made our way up to Ponggom. There, teammates and I had the pleasure to discover and share for some hours the life of a family. Arriving:Ponggom/2800 M/715 BM/rainy and foggy. Flight X to Lukla
Flight X to Lukla
What a "dingy", I really thought I was going Skydiving.
Departing: Lukla/2800 m/800 MB/rainy and foggy. Our flight X to Lukla was quite an experience. Flying short above the ridges of surrounding mountains in a « Dingy » to land on a short sloapy taxiway for our greatest pleasure. Our porters rushed for the bags like ants for eggs upon distress signal and before we could even realise we were on our first daytrek Zigzag. Down to 2300m around lunchtime we made it up to 2700m by the end of the day at Pui Ya. Arriving:Pui Ya/2700 m/720 MB/rainny and foggy. [View Full Entry]

Visiting Kathmandu Asia » Nepal » Kathmandu » Boudhanath
What re you staring at?
What re you staring at?
That glance really puzzles me
Touristic day in Kathmandu devoted to visits of both Pashupatinath and Buddhanath. The Buddhanath was stronger on exotism. My first encounter with that glance. Really strange and hard to define or depict with words. Tired? Oversmoked? Hangrylike? Unconscious? Ignoring? Or Farseeing? Learned there about the prayor flags and the meanings attached to colors, the art of Mandalas, The three temptations/damnations: the pig, the snake and the bird. Made a lot of prayer wheels to spin around that day. Mani, mani, mani. Back at the hotel, we learned that we were to take off by 4am. [View Full Entry]

A slide that shows both the mysticism and the gravity of a Temple near Ghat
Touristic day in Kathmandu devoted to visits of both Pashupatinath and Buddhanath. The Pashupatinath is THE Induist site in Kathmandu. Temples, shrines, exvotos and gaths on both side of the river made souvenirs from India to come back. Induism is a constant in its own universe. The exvoto or the shrine may change but not the devotion to traditions. Oh, by the way, the main temple to Shiva is forbiden to tourists. That is also about Induism too. [View Full Entry]
