So since I've been progressively getting sicker and sicker, I finally decided on Monday that it was time for me to see a doctor. And my only options for seeing a doctor were to go to a hospital. I've got my first case of homesickness. It just hit me yesterday while I was at school. I guess it makes sense for it to first hit me about now. The longest I've been away from home on my own is about 2 weeks and I'm usually ready to head back home by then and I've been gone now for 2 weeks. It still seems surreal to think that I have almost 7 more weeks until I'll be home again. It doesn't seem like a long time but it feels so far away. So I've now been at school for three days. For the last two I've been observing and helping out a tiny bit so I'm beginning to get a good idea of what things are like there. My first impression is that this is going to be a great experience. Not only do I have an easy schedule (I only teach for half of the day and I have the other half off) but my coops are incredibly helpful and seem like they'll do whatever they need to do ensure I succeed. Today was my first day of school. We followed the teacher's instructions and left here when she suggested and ended up getting to school about 30-40 minutes early, so now we know we can sleep in a little later. After waiting around at the school the teacher finally showed up and gave us a quick walking tour of the school. The school was pretty big and beautiful. It was like a small college campus. Since today was the first day my housemates are spending in Bangkok, we decided to go out and I would show them a couple of the things around town. So I first took them to the nearby mall just so they could see where it was and what was there. Today I wanted to go back downtown to view some of the big tourist attractions that I missed when I was in that part of town on Wednesday. So I took a cab (I didn't want to walk another 4 hours to get downtown this time) and after my driver got lost a couple times and stopped to ask for directions on two different occasions, he finally got me to Wat Intharawihan, which was where I wanted to go first. This morning for the first time I managed to sleep in a bit and didn't wake up until around 7:15 rather than 5 like I have been the last couple days. So it was nice to finally get a full night's sleep. After relaxing for a while by the pool this morning I decided to take a walk to a mall that is supposed to be nearby. Being my feet and legs were incredibly sore from my crazy adventures yesterday and since I have the largest blisters I've ever had on my feet I wanted to try and take it easy today. Day 1 in Bangkok was relatively quiet. I went to bed around 4:30AM after I got to the apartment this morning and then somehow managed to wake up at 8:30AM this morning without an alarm clock. There's lots of construction on nearby buildings and I couldn't fall back asleep so I figured I'd get an early start to my day. I tried the breakfast that the restaurant here at the apartment has and it was actually pretty nice. It was a small buffet breakfast with some American items and some Thai items.
