Bangkok! Well, I learned a lesson from my previous two flights this year, and did not get inebriated the night before leaving. Paul had left to go back to Wyoming on monday at 6am, and between working the night before, getting up early to drop him at the airport, and then get my last day in the states started, I was working on about 6 hours of sleep. I ran around like a crazy person on Monday attempting to get all the last minute stuff I had been saving for the last minute to get done done, then topped off the [View Full Entry]

It was raining when we woke up this morning. Amy and I sleepily made our way out to the stable where Alejandro and staff served us scrambled eges, toast, coffee and juice. Yum. Finally, a complete breakfast to start the day. Our car came, and we had to say goodbye to this beautiful place. Even though it was drizzling, it was peaceful and serene and strangely reminded me of growing up in Amherst, Mass. As we drove away, we remembered the crazy loud donkey we heard he-haawing outside our window in the middle of the night, and decided what to do [View Full Entry]

The thirteen of us out to dinner
Amy and I

This morning we set out for an Equestrian ranch called Los Dos Hermanos about an hour and a half outside of the city. They sent a car to pick us up, and after a rather slow start, we packed our things up and made it out the door. I think we both slept in the car. What a suprise, it was a 90 degree and sunny day. At the ranch we got settled into our room- actually a private house on the ranch. A very cute little hut with our own bathroom and kitchen. We dropped our things in the room [View Full Entry]

So it's Sunday. You know what that means. FOOTBALL. Today was a recovery day, but somehow, we made it up at a reasonable hour. On sundays there is a flea market in San Telmo, a barrio about 25 blocks away. We rolled out of bed at about eleven, and set out on foot for this infamous street market. Somehow, things never seem to be as bad when it is 90 degrees and sunny out. After getting only a little lost, we found this crazy street, and took our time wandering down it. There were preformers doing tango in the street, Peruvian [View Full Entry]

The flea market at San Telmo

So its saturday. Our last saturday in BA. You know what that means.......Club night. Amy and I got up relatively early, (about ten or so) grabbed a croissant, and set out for the streets. We first hoofed it the twenty or so blocks from our hostel to Recoletta, the national cemetery where Evita is buried (we thought). It was of course a beautiful Argentinian day in the summer, deep blue sky with a few scattered big white puffy clouds. About 85 degrees. We wandered around the cemetery for a few hours taking pictures, then made our way to the museum next [View Full Entry]

After our big night last night, we obviously slept in today. 90 degrees and not a cloud in the sky. After having some hostel coffee and fabulous croissants, we took to the streets to find an internet cafe that had a acceptable USB port so I could upload some photos. We spent about two hours there, and walked around the neighborhood a little. We grabbed a quick bite to eat (some fritattas and frenchfries), and walked around a bit more. Came back to the hostel and hung out on the roof with some fools from San Diego. Amy and I took our [View Full Entry]

We slept in today, til about eleven. We got up and made our way down to the street where our Hostel is located, Ave de Mayo (pronounced Macchio, I later found out- no wonder people looked at me weird when I would tell them where I was staying). We had lunch at a cute little outdoor caffe called Cafe Iberia about a block down Amy had her Iphone out on the table trying to translate different ingredients on the menu, when the waiter came out, and said ¨¨senora, senora¨¨, then proceeded to babble something quickly in spanish. Of course, Amy and [View Full Entry]

We made it to Buenos Aires and I didnt sleep on the flight. We easily got a taxi to our hostel, Hostel Estoril, which is located in Barrio Centro, basically the center of town. Its an adorable, quirky hostel located on the first and sixth floors of a pretty old building. Our room is small, but it has a private bathroom, which we are happy to have. I tried to nap for an hour, but no-go. At about seven Amy and I were tossing around ideas for dinner, and I told her I had the strangest craving for either indian or [View Full Entry]

With five hours of sleep under our belts, Amy and I got up at 7:15 to make it to Iguazu falls before the masses arrived in the afternoon. I had to take a bus into town first to get some cash, which took much longer than I anticipated. I finally made it back to the hostel, and after another short bus ride we had made it to the falls by about 9:30. As it is summer here, the weather is a sweltering, delicious 90 degrees or so. Actually, it made it up over 100 today. The Argentinian side of the falls [View Full Entry]

You still cant tell how huge these things are
More waterfalls
Really cool rainbow

We got up early today and packed up our stuff, took a quick shopping trip to Ipanema, then headed to the bus station for our 18hour overnight bus trip to Iguazu Falls on the Argentine-Brazilian border. One problem which we didnt realize was that Brazil time is completely different from real time. our 18 hour bus ride turned into an excruciating 24 hours. I got carsick and threw up all over the place. We ate 3 meals at crappy reststops. By the time we finally got to our hostel (after i argued with the cab driver in angry broken spanish over [View Full Entry]
