The past two days we were in Nanjing. We went and saw the Massacre Museum. It was a dedication to the Nanjing people who were the victims of horrific events when the Japanese invaded during the Chinese Japanese war. The Museum was a sad reminder of how horrible human http://www.travelblog.org/Asia/China/blog-363116.html Ko Samui Beautiful Koa Samui. This is a part of Thailand that has not yet been over run with tourists and I stress the word yet. In Koa Samui there is a nice blend of tourist and local. The tourist things are cheap enough to do so you donrsquot feel like your getting ripped off. To rent a scooter is only cost about 15US per day and that was through our high star hotel so I am sure cheaper bargains http://www.travelblog.org/Asia/Thailand/blog-318583.html Angkor Watt I think we made it to Angkor Watt just in time. Driving up to our hotel you can see how quickly and how fast this place is becoming a tourist hotspot. There is luxury resorts being built one right next to the other. The main city is filled with international restaurants and clubs that pump out western hits but visiting the temples of Angkor Watt shows the contradiction of tourism and reality. I'm thankful that I'm slightly used to scooter traffic from my time in Taiwan but this is not even close in comparison The traffic here is just as entertaining as many of the sights to see here and crossing the road is like playing a real life game of frogger.we are staying in Ho Chi Minh city formerly known as Saigon. Its a nice city with buildings that remind me of somethi http://www.travelblog.org/Asia/Vietnam/blog-305442.html Taiwan Part 13 Sun Moon Lake Seems like we have settled into life here in Taiwan that we had forgotten that we are still visitors to this island and that there was still much to see. After a few weekends of heading into Taipei and not doing too much we decided that we need a good ol' adventure and some fresh air. We decided to check out Sun Moon Lake located in the center of Taiwan. Surrounded by green mountains Sun Moon http://www.travelblog.org/Asia/blog-303190.html Taiwan Part 12 Holy Cockroaches I'm a little tired writing this due to lack of sleep because we have recently had our first run in with the local cockroaches. It started Monday morning...I was on my laptop checking some emails when out of the kitchen drawer comes the biggest most disgusting bug I have ever seen. I immediately began screaming and ran to my room for higher grounds. Lisa came out to investigate and see of she co http://www.travelblog.org/Asia/Taiwan/blog-281098.html Taiwan Part 11 Scoot Scoot So I got a new scooter Its 125cc and its silver. I got such a good deal on it I've been driving around Sansia getting used to the feel of it. The only thing I have the most trouble with it is with the kickstand. You have to use momentum to bring the bike over the kickstand and for some reason I can't really do it so easily. I have to spaz out and rock the scooter back and forth to get it over th http://www.travelblog.org/Asia/Taiwan/blog-272762.html Taiwan Part 10 Gondala Today the foreign teachers ventured out to see the Maokong Gondola located on the Brown line of the MRT. We arrived at around 4 pm. Our plan was to take the Gondola from the Zoo to beat the line ups because the lineups were huge. Unfortunately the Zoo was closed. On our way back to go and stand in the massive line a worker from the Gondola rearranged a rope and we were able to get in line and cut http://www.travelblog.org/Asia/Taiwan/blog-272751.html Taiwan Part 9 Sun and Music Its been a while since I wrote last but finally the last two weekends have been worthwhile to write aboutSo about two weekends ago I went Camping at Fulong Beach with some fellow 30 kickboxers. It was lots of fun We took the train from Taipei for about an hour and a half and ended up in Fulong which is North East of Taipei. Fulong is a tiny town with nature being its prime asset. It has beauti http://www.travelblog.org/Asia/Taiwan/Kenting/blog-263979.html Taiwan Part 8 3 weeks of sickness So I've been really sick for the past 3 weeks. About 3 weeks ago I had a bad cough. I went to a Doctor in Sansia. The doctor there spoke English and asked me about three questions felt my forhead then sent me to the next room where the nurse injected me with a massive needle. I was warned about the needle before hand. Apparently from what I was told its quiet common to get and is full of immune b http://www.travelblog.org/Asia/Taiwan/Taipei/blog-254008.html Taiwan Part 7 The Lantern Festivale Saturday night we checked out the lantern festivale. The lantern festivale is the first celebration after Chinese New Years. The Lanterns were made by local school children and are really cool looking. This is the year of the rat so all the latern scenes have rats in them. Enjoy the pictures. http://www.travelblog.org/Asia/Taiwan/Taipei/blog-247093.html Taipei part 6 The National Chiang Kaishek Memorial Hall 1st month review Happy Valentines Day Its not hugely celebrated here thank god. Monday we showed up to school and no one was there we didn't get the memo that Chinese new year included the Monday as well So to make use of our day off we went back to bed then we visited the Chiang KaiShek memorial. Located on the southern end of the island. We took the high speed train down there which travels from speed upwards of high. The High speed train got us to Kaohsiung. From there we took a 4 hour bus ride down to the YoYo restort in Kenting. I think we took the wrong bus because the bus we took back to Kaohsiung only t http://www.travelblog.org/Asia/Taiwan/Kenting/blog-244697.html Taiwan Part 4 Kereoke sightseeing Kereoke Hello EveryoneNot much is new. On Friday the school invited us over for ginger duck and Kareoke. The soup was excellent and the Keroke vidoes looked like someone shot it in 5 seconds. They had cheesy stories and looked like the build up yoursquod see in some cheesy romantic video. My new dream is to be a Kareoke director. Maybe if tea http://www.travelblog.org/Asia/Taiwan/blog-238318.html Taiwan Part 2 The First week So its been a very hectic week adjusting to our new life here in Taiwan. I'm teaching at a private cram school that caters to children of all ages. I'm teaching 3 5 year olds. They are very smart for their age. The first few days we spent observing the classroom procedures and watching what was going on. After 3 days we were given a lesson plan and told to teach it. Its been very hectic the fir http://www.travelblog.org/Asia/Taiwan/Taipei/blog-237287.html Taiwan Part 1 The arrival The First Day. After gruelling long flight we finally arrived. A man working for Uncle Samrsquos picked us up at the airport and brought us to our destination using the companyrsquos kindergarten school bus. It was cramped and hilarious because we didnrsquot fit into the seats and barely did our luggage. When asking where we were going the man gave us a big smile. He didnrsquot speak English. We arrived http://www.travelblog.org/Asia/Taiwan/Taipei/blog-235861.html Flight Delayed The Prearrival So our flight has been canceled because of the weather. We spent all today trying to find a new flight out to Taiwan and we've managed to find a better one then the rescheduled Friday Night flight.Too be honest I'm sort of glad for the extra days because Sunday I was running around like a chicken with its head cut off trying to get ready. It was a scramble trying to get to the airport alth http://www.travelblog.org/North-America/Canada/Ontario/Ottawa/blog-234193.html
