| 25th October 2009 Mindy | Natural Selection - From: Galapagos Day 4 Sorry, I'm out of school, so I refuse to write a paper. Go look it up on wikipedia. |
| 25th October 2009 Ron | Darwin Research Center - From: Galapagos Day 4 Take good notes Mindy at the Darwin Center. Can you please lay out a paper on natural selection and evolution? |
| 25th October 2009 haviva Horvitz | Proof - From: Galapagos Day 4 The only way that you have proof that you made it to the top is if there are pictures with you in them. Otherwise, you have proof that your camera made it to the top . . . . On the other hand, I trust you. |
| 25th October 2009 Mary Lindsay | Love your Blog! - From: Galapagos Day 3 Greetings from Vancouver,BC! I am loving your Blog! Your trip is amazing! I am looking forward to hearing about the penquins! |
| 24th October 2009 Candace Haaven | Sounds like you are having a good time. - From: Galapagos Day 3 I guess you didn't "do" enough walking, or should I say "stepping" in Peru so you are doing some more. I enjoyed the Amazon but it was terribly HOT!! The lodge was very nice, even without electricity and a 4th wall in the room I stayed in. I had 2 little friends in my room both nights....2 frogs the size of my fist. They didn't bother me and I didn't bother them. I guess we came to an agreement! We saw a few birds that I have never heard of, a couple of monkeys, and the largest rodent in the world. Forgot his name at the moment. I had to wait 10 hours in the Lima airport for my plane home, but after 18 hours I finally arrived. Enjoy the penguins tomorrow. |
| 24th October 2009 Ron | Evolution or Creationism - From: Galapagos Day 3 Oops--guess I missed Day 1 on the tortoises--can't keep up with all of the posts! :) So....based on what you see, was Darwin correct about evolution???? |
| 24th October 2009 Haviva Horvitz | Penguins! - From: Galapagos Day 3 What color are these penguins? Daytime, nighttime, in the water or out? |
| 23rd October 2009 Mindy | Iguanas - From: Galapagos Day 2 The big ones we saw were a good three feet long. There were also a bunch of smaller ones, and we saw a whole family of black iguanas on the walk back to the hotel. |
| 23rd October 2009 Mindy | Tortoises - From: Galapagos Day 2 Read day one, Ron, that's where the tortoises were. |
| 23rd October 2009 Ron | Tortoises? - From: Galapagos Day 2 ...but what about the tortoises? |
| 23rd October 2009 Jenny | - From: Galapagos Day 2 How fun to be so near the sea lions and to see a baby one! How big were the iguanas that you saw? |
| 22nd October 2009 marie gonzalez | - From: Galapagos Day One Wow I wish I was there, that is what I call a vacation. Have fun. |
| 22nd October 2009 Bill | Galapagos - From: Galapagos Day One Sounds like you're having the trip of a lifetime!! I'd like to see a picture of you riding a tortoise or at least being chased by one! NY is unseasonably warm today, high of 75 degrees... Yanks playing tonight for World Series berth :-) Be safe and keep sending your updates.... hope you are having a great time - Bill |
| 22nd October 2009 anonymous | galapagps - From: Galapagos Day One Sounds great, especially the turtles. Eileen and Bert |
| 22nd October 2009 Mari | Galapagos - From: Galapagos Day One Hi-I'd love to see those giant tortoises so what's the island like? Sounds like you are enjoying. Can't wait to see pictures didn't know you enjoyed birds. I've had my run too when I nearly lost an owl on broadway once tell you more next time. |
| 22nd October 2009 Mindy | Alarms - From: Galapagos Day One Using an iPod as an alarm uses up the battery very quickly, something I learned in South Africa. The main reason I was looking for a clock was to verify the time, we thought we'd changed time zones but were not sure. |
| 21st October 2009 Haviva Horvitz | Don't you have your iPod with you? - From: Galapagos Day One Don't you have your iPod with you? That should work as far as a clock, not to mention an alarm. Besides, you are on vacation. Time should not matter as much. (Of course, I realize that you need to meet the group at specific times.) |
| 21st October 2009 Ginger Stalcup | Return to Mulberry - From: Welcome to Quito As you know, we arrived at the Thunderbird around midnight and we had a wake-up call at 3AM. The plane left Lima on time and we arrived in Miami on time but the luggage was so slow to arrive that we had to run for the terminal after we cleared customs. After going through Chicago we arrived home close to 11 PM and I had to work the 7AM shift the next day. Good thing there's a higher concentration of oxygen here; I think that's keeping us going. Hope your trip to the Galapagos is stunning! |
| 21st October 2009 Mindy | Galapagos Day One - From: Galapagos Day One Sorry to anyone who got 2 notifications about this, I had to correct a couple of typos. |
| 21st October 2009 marie gonzalez | - From: Quito and the Equator I love salmon and daquiri. Have fun......... |
| 21st October 2009 Ron | Tortoises in Galapagos - From: Quito and the Equator Hi Mindy--I can't wait to hear if you are able to see those huge tortoises that roam in the Galapagos. (Actually, I saw them at the zoo and found them a bit scary). Sooooo....is it evolution (Darwin) or is it creationism? Thanks for posting the interesting details of your trip. |
| 21st October 2009 Evelyn | My Mindy - From: Quito and the Equator I miss you :( I am glad you are having a great time. Keep on smiling :) |
| 20th October 2009 Mindy | TV - From: Welcome to Quito Actually, I've been watching a bunch of Law and Order on various chanels. In English with Spanish subtitles. |
| 20th October 2009 Mindy | Boats - From: Lake Titicaca It's been 30 seat motor boats for the longer trips. |
| 20th October 2009 Mindy | Thai food - From: Cusco to Puno Yeah, I'm in Thai food withdrawal. And it looks like American style food tonight, the other restaurants don't open until 7 pm. I don't know why, but the South Americans like eating late. |
| 20th October 2009 marie gonzalez | - From: Welcome to Quito Hope that you are having a great time. You are missed. |
| 19th October 2009 Dee Dee Jenkins | - From: Cusco to Puno Well well well...first off how's it going although it's obvious you haven't missed a single step yet...glad to hear all about your trip on a daily basis...gosh...I guess I won't have much to ask you upon your return huh??? Anyhew...want some Thai...? I'm ordering (smile). Well I tried writing you before on the train and I ended up losing my whole confounded message. Well, I hope you get this one, have a ball and keep that travelblog a coming!!! Gives me something to read on the trAin. Bye for now!!!!! Deeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee |
| 19th October 2009 Haviva Horvitz | How's the television? - From: Welcome to Quito Are you stuck watching Sponge Bob? Is there a great deal of English speaking television shows with subtitles? Anything fun (and local)? |
| 17th October 2009 haviva Horvitz | What kind of boats? - From: Lake Titicaca What kinds of boats did you travel in for the longer rides? How large? How smooth a ride? Lots of pictures? (Like I have to ask . . . .) |
| 16th October 2009 anonymous | Sweet Dreams - From: Evening in Cusco Rest up tonight Mindy. Do they have the Westin "heavenly bed" in Peru? That's my favorite bed and hotel chain in the US. Overseas, however, I detest chains and prefer local establishments. Bon nuit R |
| 16th October 2009 Mary Lindsay | Thrilling Blog! - From: Ollantiatiambo and MACHU PICCHU Mindy, Each day, I look forward to reading your blog! you have a real gift for writng. Sometimes, I feel like I can see what you are describing! Now I must consider taking this tour in 2010. I am home sick with pnemonia( first time in my life!). As soon as you are back, I 'll be asking your recommendations regarding the best time of the year for this trip etc..... Anyway, thanks again for the wonderful daily updates! I am loving it!! Continue having fun!!! You go Girl!! Love Mary |
| 16th October 2009 Ron | What's For Dinner Tonight? - From: Machu Picchu back to Cusco Hope you are having a nice dinner Mindy. We just had shitake mushrooms with gorgonzola cheese tonight here at work in Los Angeles. I'll explain when you get back to the good ole USA. Shake it up on the dance floor girl! Lambada with Miss Mindy! :) |
| 16th October 2009 Haviva Horvitz | Fashion Show? - From: Machu Picchu back to Cusco What types of clothing? Current (and what would that be?) or ancient? |
| 15th October 2009 Mindy | Kids on the Switchback - From: Ollantiatiambo and MACHU PICCHU Nope, no kids on the road up to Machu Pichhu. Guess they finally made them stop. |
| 15th October 2009 Mindy | Hebrew letterS - From: Ollantiatiambo and MACHU PICCHU Oddly enough, the first time I saw anything Hebrew was on the way to the hotel tonight. Have to ask Mauricio about it. |
| 15th October 2009 Hil | - From: Ollantiatiambo and MACHU PICCHU I've always wanted to go to Machu Picchu. It sounds amazing! |
| 15th October 2009 anonymous | Judaica in Lima - From: Ollantiatiambo and MACHU PICCHU Mindy--Have you seen any synagogues or Jewish history while in Peru? |
| 15th October 2009 haviva Horvitz | Matrilineal?!? - From: Ollantiatiambo and MACHU PICCHU Not only is matrilineal not a word I need to look up, but you gave it away in your next sentence. Is having pet guinea pigs in this area like pet chickens? If life gets difficult, you can always eat them. Did they see them more as pets or as cattle? Do llamas walk around freely like kangaroos in Australia? Sounds like a great trip! |
| 14th October 2009 911jason | Switchback children? - From: Ollantiatiambo and MACHU PICCHU No mention of the kids on the switchback running down from corner to corner waving Goodbye? Or are they gone now? |
| 14th October 2009 Mindy | Coca tea - From: Lima to Cusco to Yanahuara Yeah, they've offered it at every hotel we´ve been at, but I've been avoiding it, it's not something I'm interested in. |
| 14th October 2009 Mindy | Last Supper - From: Lima to Cusco to Yanahuara Remember, the people who painted the Last Supper saw Christ in their own image, so no, wouldn't have thought about Kosher food. And all of the disciples were painted as white, except for Judas who was painted darker complected. |
| 14th October 2009 Mindy | No Thai here - From: Lima to Cusco to Yanahuara There doesn't seem to be much Thai food here, but there were Chinese restaurants on every street in Lima. |
| 14th October 2009 911jason | Light headed? - From: Lima to Cusco to Yanahuara Did they offer you Mate de Coca when you arrived in Cusco? I remember them telling me to drink that to help with the altitude adjustment. My dad said it tasted like horse sweat, I thought it tasted like a melted tire. =) |
| 14th October 2009 Haviva Horvitz | Guinea pig meat?!? - From: Lima to Cusco to Yanahuara I would think that those who ate the last supper kept kosher to a greater degree than that. What color skin did they have? Similar to the locals? I hope you enjoy Machu-Pichu as much as I like saying it! |
| 14th October 2009 Dionne | Crazy chick!!! - From: Lima to Cusco to Yanahuara Well I guess there is no need to ask how your days have been thus far since I don't think you forget to mention anything!! Anyhew, obviously what an experience for you...enjoy and keep those emails coming...it gives me something else to read on my long long train ride home every nite!! Anything tastes better than Thai as of yet..?...didn't think so 8-). Have fun chickie! |
| 12th October 2009 Haviva Horvitz | Did you know . . . - From: Paracas-Ballestas Islands-Lima Guano manure is an effective fertilizer and gunpowder ingredient due to its high levels of phosphorus and nitrogen and also its lack of odor. I guessed the first part of this from the context, but I had no idea that it was an ingredient in gunpowder too. (By the way, Eliezer knew this one -- at least about the poo.) |
| 11th October 2009 Millie & Keith | Peru trip - From: Lima to Paracas Mindy sounds like you are having a good trip-would not necessarily take the 12 seat flight either-I have done that before and Millie (I) vomited after the flight landed from Alberqueque to Santa Fe |
| 11th October 2009 Haviva Horvitz | Who's your roommate? - From: Lima to Paracas Okay, maybe I'm a bit jealous, as I finish Religious School for today and prepare my sermon for Friday night services and get a good night sleep so that I can go to work tomorrow . . . . |
| 11th October 2009 Ron | Dallas Layover - From: Lima City Tour Hi Mindy I'm reading your posts here in Dallas (AA stop over from Washington DC) after conference. Sounds like you are busy and having lots fun. Be safe. Sounds like Lima is a bit different from your hometown--New York City! |
| 11th October 2009 Haviva Horvitz | Happy Simchat Torah! - From: Lima City Tour I'm surprised that there are so many singles. Is this usual? How is the weather? Sounds like you are still getting settled. Having fun yet? Enjoy! |
| 11th October 2009 911jason | Inca Cola - From: Lima City Tour Mindy - you gotta get some Inca Cola when you visit the 24-hour grocery, that's a fond memory of my trip to Peru... then again, I was 15 at the time, so... =) |
| 11th October 2009 Shannon | - From: Lima City Tour It sounds like another world! I tend to rather enjoy street vendors, but I have a hard time saying no to the persistant one. Hope you continue to enjoy your trip! |

| 9th October 2009 Michael Hicks | On your way! :-) - From: Greetings from Miami Well, glad to see that your trip got underway without major incident! The weather variation thing is a real pain - my parents have had to deal with that on several of their trips, taking everything they'd need for rainforest climates through near-arctic. Gack! Anyway, good luck on the flight to Lima - hope it's smooth and uneventful! :-) |
| 9th October 2009 Haviva Horvitz | Off to a good start - From: Greetings from Miami Are you excited yet? Have fun! |
| 8th October 2009 Bill | Nice - From: Trip Itinerary Looks cool... please bring me back some ancient Incan art or relics!!! I dont care if you have to smuggle it ;-) |

| 23rd July 2009 Haviva Horvitz | I am glad - From: Paul McCartney 7-21-9 I am glad you enjoyed your birthday! It sounds great! (For someone who wasn't going to list . . . but it was good to see that I can recognize many of the songs.) Did Jamie enjoy himself? (How could he not?) |
| 23rd July 2009 Haviva Horvitz | Huh? - From: Billy Elliott July 19, 2009 All I know about this play is that there is a boy in it and they needed 3 boys to play the same part because it is so physical. I didn't even know there was a movie. Therefore, the best part about reading this review was that I get to keep in touch with you. By the way, in the second paragraph, the word should be "than" since you are comparing your enjoyment the first time and the second time. (sorry. It is in my nature. I hope you understand.) |
| 22nd July 2009 T.J. | YAY! - From: Paul McCartney 7-21-9 Sounds like you had a really good time. I'm jealous! Happy Birthday again! |
| 17th June 2009 Haviva Horvitz | Go see the movie - From: 9 to 5 It sounds like the effort was made, perhaps too much so, to keep true to the movie. The movie also starts with the women getting to know each other and the drunken fantasy sequence and then, as if all of a sudden there is a realization that there is a story-line which needs to move along, the rest takes place. It is very dated, but still works well, which is in my opinion attributable to the strong acting skills of the stars. Glad you had a fun time. |
| 19th May 2009 Mark P. | 1776 Review Response - From: 1776 Papermill 5-17-9 Where were you when they were writing the Declaration of Independence? Keep up the excellent writing. I look forward to the next one. |
| 19th May 2009 Mary Lindsay | Next to Normal - From: Next to Normal 5-10-09 Thanks Mindy, for yet another comprehensive review. I will look forward to the play coming to Vancouver! |
| 16th May 2009 Haviva Horvitz | Happy to read it! - From: Next to Normal 5-10-09 I was happy to read a positive review. I was beginning to get worried about the shows you had been seeing. I was starting to lose faith in all productions. Everything did not live up to standards and usually your standards are tough but fair. I was worried that maybe you had seen one too many . . . as if that were possible. I am glad to see that there was something you actually enjoyed. By the way, the Bipolar advertisement at the bottom of your blog page, are those merely a wonderful proof of the irony in the world? |
| 4th May 2009 T.J. | Still love it - From: Hair 5-2-9 I still wish I was in NY to see this show. It is one of my favorites! |
| 10th November 2008 Julia | - From: Back home again Glad you had a good time and made it home safe! |
