This is one of hundreds of photos that were taken of me with my students. They are amazing and I have so much fun talking with them and learning about their lives. The one to the right of me is a clas... [more]

It's a beautiful island, one which has some pretty unique things to offer. Besides scenic mountain views and lava beaches, Jeju-do offers two mini-lands, a Magic World, a Mongolian Horse Show and Marine Parks. We took a five hour boat ride there, and a plane back. The trip was a good way to see some sights on the island while noting other places that I'd like [View Full Entry]

I had a weekend teaching conference in Gyeongju, the ancient capital of the Silla dynasty. The conference was helpful and it was great to see old friends from orientation. We also got a day of sightseeing in, which included two temples, two tomb sites, a national museum, an ancient observatory and a royal pond. [View Full Entry]

The ETA orientation was held in Chuncheon, South Korea. 70 young Americans try not to break cultural norms one day at a time...and we slowly realize that, when in doubt, to just bow and smile. [View Full Entry]

I took a 6 hour train from Granada to Madrid and on the way it played first a Hillary Duff movie and then a J. Lo movie. Although this was disconcerting, I was able to tune out the America and soak up the beautiful landscape outside. [View Full Entry]

Granada is also in Spain's southern Andalucia region. It appealed to me because it was the last Muslim stronghold in Spain and has retained much of the Moorish influence, in its architecture, neighborhoods and general atmosphere. [View Full Entry]

Hi! Hope this finds you all well and that you're enjoying the beginning of Spring. It is really nice here in St Andrews again, the town is bustling and the weather has been excellent. It's definitely a beautiful part of the world and I really feel lucky to be able to live here. The tides have been really low and all of the sand blows across the beach as if in a sandstorm. The sunsets have been gorgeous as well, the sun sets over the Old Course and I find myself stopping to watch it nightly. It is thankfully staying light [View Full Entry]

St Patrick's Day
St Patrick's Day
Those of us who didn't go to Ireland still celebrated in green...
thought i'd make a last quick entry for awhile--leaving for spring break tomorrow night! In life news, am coming off of a really nice weekend. St Patrick's Day was a lot of fun, involved watching Irish Riverdance-esque dancing to Beyonce at one point, which was pretty awesome. I now want to see Riverdance. My friend Marit came to visit, we showed her around, got a big group together for dinner and watched a lot of March Madness. In scholastic news, there is a big deal about teacher's pay in the UK right now. Our professors in the Union went on strike [View Full Entry]

Destination: London Transportation: Bus, Train, Tube Who: Me and Vanessa Shelter: Ashlee House Hostel, King's Cross area Goal: Be tourists and have fun Note 1. I really enjoy using public transportation. It's a lot less stressful than driving, it's efficient, it's more socially interesting. Take the train rides, for example. We sat at a table both ways, allowing us to do some homework (yes, we do have homework now) and lucked out both times. On the way down I sat by a 3rd-year medic student studying at the University of Edinburgh and an older man who was a practicing doctor. We [View Full Entry]
