I've always wanted to go to Africa and now I'm making it happen. Can't wait to see what the next 6 weeks has in store for me...

Hey everyone, Arrived in Kampala today. Laura and I spoiled ourselves with pedicures and got my hair blow-dried. Seems silly and vain but what a luxury after almost 6 weeks of living in a truck and sleeping in a tent. Uganda is beautiful. Spent 2 days in Kenya but did not see very much of it other than what I saw from my seat on the truck. Joined a new group pf people on Monday as everyone else trip was done, really sad to say goodbye to everyone. Four of us carried on though and we're off to see the gorillas in the Congo mountains on Saturday. I am so excited and nervous, just hope we actually get to see some. Hope everyone is doing well. lots of love, Melissa... read more
Hi everyone, I'm so sorry it's been so long between entries. I only have 5 minutes to update this one so here it goes: Since leaving Jo'burg I went up to Botswana and went to the Okavango Delta where we bush camped and I stood meters away from an elephant and other wildlife. Absolutely thrilling. Wonderful experience. Came back and did a game drive through Chobe national park where I got to see lions, beautiful. Next country was Zambia where my wild side was released. I bungee jumped off Victoria Falls, as well as did as swing dive and zipline off bridge, one of the highest in the world. Thrilling to say the least. The next day we white water rafted and a "surfed" on the Zambezi river, some of the strongest rapids in the world. ... read more
Hi everyone, this is day 7 of my trip and I'm loving every moment of it. We are in Jo'burg now and don't be fooled by its reputation, it is not as dangerous as it sounds. Actually the locals are really friendly and welcoming (then again we haven't been out past dark). After leaving Cape Town we had long drive days stopping in the Great Karoo (windiest spot ever) and Kimberley where we spent 2 nights. We visited a diamond mine while there but it was nothing worth fussing about. We arrived in Joburg yesterday and explore a little but the real fun happened today. We got up early and got to visit a lion park. I actually got to pet real lions (cubs) and feed giraffes. Really cool! Better than that for me though was ... read more
Greetings from Cape Town, I hope that everyone is doing well. Just wrapping up my second day in Cape Town and I'm just amazed by the beauty of it. I have never seen a more beautiful city, between Table Mountain and the ocean it's just gorgeous. Andrea and I hiked up Table Mountain and it was amazing, what a sense of accomplishment but better yet is the view from the top, if it doesn't take yur breath away than something must be wrong with you. Today we toured Robben Island and actually got to see Nelson Mandela cell and where he wrote "A Long Walk to Freedom". We than lazed around Victoria And Alfred Waterfront shops, nice shops but quite pricy. Tomorrow we're off on our overland safari, quite excited! That is when the real adventure ... read more
Hi everyone, this is my first entry and my last one on this continent. My bags and packed and there is no looking back. My goodbyes were extremely difficult, harder than I expected but I need to remind myself that six weeks flies by so I just need to embrace every moment of my adventure. Have a wonderful summer everyone. I'll try to log on again soon, hopefully from Cape Town. Lots of love, Melissa... read more
