I'll add photos when I get a connection capable of doing so. Wake up with the rest of the room, in fact I'm the last one up apart from Andrew who's just gotten in. It's not even eight yet. Shower and pack the last of my things. $10 back for my cutlery and crockery. Walk to Coles for a power adapter, but the only one they have is $12 and it's the size of a house brick. Maybe I wont need on. I got an e-mail from Theresa; her son is buying a bike (motorbike?) to travel from Buenos Aires to Maine next year if I'm interested. I am. The shuttle is waiting when I get back to the barracks. I grab my bag, drop my linen in the bin and hand over my key, the ... read more

Who knows if/when I'll next get a chance to write anything. And once I start working I probably wont have much to write about anyway. Will I miss Perth? Maybe, but I can't afford to stay and last couple of nights have reminded me that I'm older than most of the travellers here. I'm not sure if I'm looking forward to spending three months in the same town or if I'm dreading it. Jobs for today: Pack backpack, Lose excess (books, food, SmartRide card) and Sleep. Train from Midland to Perth, sort my life out and head to the park to read. More details from the job shop and a fairwell message from Netta - the last line is 'Behave yourself', I wonder what she could mean. The hostel for dinner and crash with a movie. ... read more

My alarm goes off at 08h30 and I manage to turn it off. It's an hour later before I crawl out of bed. Week days are the only chance I get of a good nights sleep. Smart clothes (jeans, hiking shoes and a shirt with only one button hole missing) and head out to the agencies. I stop in Charterhouse (they aren't keen that I haven't made an appointment, even after I tell them I never got a reply to my e-mail) and People in Computers. Despite the name I have a good feeling about the latter. I need to e-mail both companies a copy of my CV before they'll do anything for me. Head upstairs to the JobShop. I don't really expecting to find anything, but I have nothing to lose by looking. As I'm ... read more

Finally wake up at half ten, about five hours after Ben and Adam get in. I take my book to King's Park to escape for a few hours. Catch-up with my roomies for a bit and then head to the campus to read some more. It's warm and I'm tired so not a bad way to spend a Sunday. Not really in the mood for a movie I head to the Brass Monkey; Elliot and Andrew are working so I get free softdrinks. I get talking to two sisters, Melanie and Danae (both nurses). Andrew is convinced that every time he sees me I'm talking to a different group of girls.... read more

I'd really like to sleep for more than six hours in a single night or have a lie-in. Maybe tomorrow. woken a little after six by people coming and going. Don't manage to get back to sleep. It's a beautiful dayout, though my room is full of people sleeping when I head out after ten. I head to the campus to read in the sun. Back in the room I hide from the sun with a movie and watch the boys get ready for gay pride night. Elliot has been paid in beer to go to work tonight in drag and he shares with the room. Andrew is dressing as a village person; no free beer, but we use marker pens to improve his clothes whilst he's in the shower. The Gay Pride Parade is fun. ... read more

No pictures today. Vegetarian chocolate shake for breakfast and a train ride back into Perth. To the job shop to look for work and find that while seek saves a copy of your CV it doesn't let you attach it to applications. Find Adam and get my USB pen back. Apply for jobs and back to the hostel for sleep. The plan is to register at another agency this afternoon, but by the time I wake up it's four and I'm not really in the mood. I'll have to get up early Monday to make up for it. I eat the last of my food. Head to the Brass Monkey with Adam so he can get some dinner. To the hostel to get washed, changed and sort a few things and back to the Brass. Play ... read more

Everyone's awake by 05h30 and we're having breakfast by six. Kelly heads out to catch a 06h30 plane and is back within half an hour because it's been delayed by four hours. Linda heads out for work and the rest of us crash out with Family Guy. Kelly is looking for a new house mate when Cat & Linda move out, she might also be able to help me find a job in the mines. Half nine Cat takes Kelly back to the airport and Andrew and I catch a bus to the train station. It feels much later than ten when we're sat on the train. Back in Perth City I buy a SmartRide card ($10 for the card and another $10 minimum top-up). Back to the hostel for showers and start the day. The ... read more

Adam wants to go to Caversham wildlife park today if I'm interested in joining him. I have a few things to do first and we arrange to meet later. I head out to check the job scene. Bump into Netta outside the Jobshop, didn't know she's still in town. She's been looking for work and having to do a lot of 'trail shifts'; she works a shift for free. She's worked most days for the last week without getting paid once, but she's got a paying shift starting tonight. Entrance to Caversham costs $23, plus train fair to get there. When I meet Adam in the room Andrew and Kate invite us out for her leaving lunch. Adam is still keen to feed the animals, but I'm keen to save money. I follow Andrew and Kate ... read more

Breakfast and a walk to Coles to by a mug (Aus$2). I need my breakfast tea. Sort some bits and back down to the job shop to check e-mails and apply for jobs. To the room for lunch and Adam is just crawling out of bed. Head out for breakfast (Adam) / lunch (me) - all day breakfast (Aus$10). Back to the room to get some washing done. Change the bed linen and steal some wire to construct a washing line across the room. Adam crawls back into bed and I head out to enjoy the sun. In the park reading until I'm crispy. Damp jeans so can't head into town for agencies. Crash in room with a movie. Back to Coles for dinner, veggie pastie (Aus$1). A night in not doing much and saving money. ... read more

A phone alarm goes off at 06h00 and keeps going off until I get up at 06h20 and dig it out of someones jean pocket. More alarms, people getting up for work and the Irish girl getting jiggy with the guy she brought home. Time to move on? Breakfast and call Hays to remind them I still exist. Looking through the post in reception and Marine taps me on the shoulder. She's just checked out and is heading to the bank to get her Westpac debit card. I join her. Forget my ID, but the staff recognise me and give me my card anyway. Say goodbye to Marine. Maybe I'll see her again in a week or two. Into the Job shop to check e-mail and look at work. My Tax File Number (TFN) is waiting ... read more
