Travel Blog | Mike and Charlotte http://www.travelblog.org/Bloggers/Mike-and-Charlotte/ Travel adventures in journals and photos from Mike and Charlotte en-us Sun, 27 Dec 2009 06:25:55 +0000 Sun, 27 Dec 2009 06:25:55 +0000 A Slower Summer HelloI know believe it or not it's us Not many travelblogs have been rolling out lately. This is really just a quick one. It's been a bit of a different summer this not so much traveling. A lot of this is due to the fact that we are currently 9 months pregnant and looking forward to welcoming our new addition very soon. We're hoping the wee nipper is better behaved than Daddy and we're http://www.travelblog.org/Europe/United-Kingdom/blog-428296.html Tofino It's been a while since we've had a blog. Life has been fairly quiet lately and a lot of time has been spent in Vancouver. We had hoped to go to Nova Scotia at Christmas but that plan soon got squashed by over 50cm of snow falling in Vancouver which is a rarity. Add that to snow in Halifax and the fact that it's the busiest travel time of the year and you get the idea that going stand by defini http://www.travelblog.org/North-America/Canada/British-Columbia/Vancouver-Island/Tofino/blog-370537.html Pumpkins in the Sun We lied we managed to fit in a wee trip before the end of the year so hurrah another travelblog abounds. The first part of the trip was a solo one for Charlotte. Bidding for vacation the year before doesn't always work out. So as a result Charlotte had all her vacation time in October and November. It's been a big year money wise with trips to the UK and of course our wonderful wedding s http://www.travelblog.org/North-America/Canada/British-Columbia/Princeton/blog-340432.html Nova Scotia Chilling Most of our time in Nova Scotia was spent on Mike's Mum and Dad's farm. Janet Mike's Mum had surgery whilst we were there so it was perfect timing in that we got to spend some time with her beforehand and then visited her in hospital afterwards. The hospital was in Kentville about and hour and a half from Halifax on the West side of Nova Scotia. We managed to fit in a couple of visits. We http://www.travelblog.org/North-America/Canada/Nova-Scotia/Annapolis-Valley/blog-331655.html Anne with an "E" sleepy lobsters The end of our last blog saw us in pursuit of somewhere to do our washing after being on the road for over a week. However our plan to fly into Halifax and then go and stay overnight at Mike's parents farm was soon squashed. By a bird We phoned Westjet whilst driving towards Toronto and listed on the afternoon flight to Halifax. The reservation agent said that we should be fine going stand http://www.travelblog.org/North-America/Canada/Prince-Edward-Island/blog-325095.html At the lake Our drive back to Canada was fairly uneventful and even the wait at the border wasn't too long an hour and a half or so. We reached Toronto airport at 7pm. Our friend Ben came to pick us up and after a quick stop at the house to pick up some extra provisions we were soon on the road again. We drove North of Ontario into the Haliburton Highlands to the small town of Minden. We arrived late a http://www.travelblog.org/North-America/Canada/Ontario/Haliburton/blog-324465.html Chicago and The Bean Unfortunately I found out that we had an extra hour that we didn't know about until after I'd come back from a quick run around the shops Typical however I did discover that Macy's in Chicago has 7 floors. That's right 7 Even I was a bit lost.We were in Chicago for the Lollapalooza a 3 day music festival which took place in Grant Park. The park sits on the edge of downtown and Lake Mi http://www.travelblog.org/North-America/United-States/Illinois/Chicago/blog-318313.html Road trip Ontario to Holland Michigan It all started with a redeye overnight flight from Vancouver to Toronto. The plane was full and we were jammed in sitting bolt upright for four and a half hours. Needless to say not much shut eye was to be had. We landed into Toronto at 7am. After collecting our bags we wearily wandered to the rental car desks to pick up our motor. After collecting the keys we were soon on our merry way http://www.travelblog.org/North-America/United-States/Michigan/Holland/blog-313763.html Our Heavenly Hawaiian Honeymoon After the chaos of planning a wedding on the other side of the globe and our amazing wedding week in Scotland we were pretty much KNACKERED After the long journey from Glasgow to Toronto and then Calgary before finally reaching Vancouver we were ready for a break. After unpacking and repacking we were soon on a plane bound for Honolulu and some piece and quiet. We knew we would be exhaust http://www.travelblog.org//Waikiki/blog-299715.html Bonnie Scotland and a Wonderful Wedding A day I'd imagined all my life and what a day it would turn out to be. I think nearly every little girl dreams of her wedding day the beautiful dress marrying the man of your dreams. For me I always wanted to be by water in the open air. Scotland was ideal perfect and home. It took months of research to decide that we could do it there as the strong pound against the Canadian dollar mad http://www.travelblog.org/Europe/United-Kingdom/Scotland/blog-291899.html Bonnie Scotland and a Whirlwind Wedding Week After a very busy first five days of May the 6th rolled round and we were on our way. Of to Scotland for our wedding Three flights twelve hours of waiting in airports and one lost jacket later which we left at the first airport we finally landed in Glasgow. My Gran picked us up and we were soon safe and sound in her flat in Paisley. We spent the night chatting with Gran and Lesley who http://www.travelblog.org/Europe/United-Kingdom/Scotland/Glasgow/blog-282060.html Bonnie Scotland This blog isn't about any recent trips that we've done more about a trip that we're going to be doing our wedding is fast approaching. So this is really a blog about things to do and places to stay in Glasgow and out in Argyll where we're getting married it hopefully will help those of you coming over for a visit. The Glasgow area is a starting off point for many especially since that's whe http://www.travelblog.org/Europe/United-Kingdom/Scotland/blog-258126.html From Cold Canada to Hot Hawaii It's fair to say that I've seen my fair share of cold weather this winter. Working for Westjet means that I get to visit many Canadian cities and in winter they're cold. In Calgary a few weeks ago it was minus 52 with the wind chill and the poor baggage handlers were feeling the effects of frostbite bbrrrrrrr. However it also means that I get to use passes to go to nice warm places like H http://www.travelblog.org//Waikiki/blog-250959.html Christmas Hogmany and a wee bit of wedding planning....... The drive up to Scotland was much quicker than usual. Probably due to the fact that we were no longer coming from the very South Coast. Alan's move to Leamington Spa has meant a much closer proximity to home. Which was great for us. It was great to see our Gran and Aunt Lesley when we got up. Alan decided to stay at Gran's house whilst I stayed at Lesley's with Alfie the mad ginger tom.The http://www.travelblog.org/Europe/United-Kingdom/Scotland/blog-236912.html A Warwickshire Winter A trip home is good at any time of the year but especially during the holiday season. The only down side was that I had to leave Mike at home as he was working over Christmas. I found the cheapest flight from Vancouver to London Gatwick which left on December 17th. With a few tweaks and trades with my work schedule I managed to get the time off and then found a fairly cheap deal to come back http://www.travelblog.org/Europe/United-Kingdom/England/Warwickshire/Leamington-Spa/blog-236300.html Black Friday Hawaii Style With a week and a half off work I decided to put the time to good use and jumped on a plane over to Honolulu Hawaii. I hadn't stepped foot on Hawaiian soil since the last Harmony flight on April 9th. I certainly miss all the brilliant layovers that I had with all my friends at Harmony so to go back over was like visiting an old friend. The sights sounds and smells all so familiar. The flig http://www.travelblog.org/North-America/United-States/Hawaii/Oahu/Honolulu/blog-225472.html Viva Las Vegas Sin City. Gambling heaven or a good excuse to go shopping That's exactly what it was for Sheri and myself. We first spoke about a trip to Vegas last March so it only took us a year and half to actually go. With the Canadian dollar as strong as the American it was perfect timing. Sheri came into Vancouver and spent a couple of days with her brother John. They picked me up on the Saturday http://www.travelblog.org/North-America/United-States/Nevada/Las-Vegas/blog-221103.html Coast to Coast and back again... Hello I was having problems publishing this blog so if you've had ten billion emails I apologise. If you haven't well here you goIt's amazing how in the space of a few short days you can be on one side of Canada then the other then the other and then the other. The life of a flight attendant I suppose. This time however it was a mix of business and pleasure. A work trip saw me swer http://www.travelblog.org/North-America/Canada/Newfoundland-Labrador/St-John-s/blog-216633.html A Hustle in Halifax Unfortunately for me my layover in Halifax was short. Mostly just enough time to sleep grab a coffee and get back to work. I was looking forward to flying to Halifax so I could meet up with my friends Jacqui and Brent who got married in July. As I had my drills that day for work we weren't able to make it over. My flight landed just after 11pm and estimated time of arrival was 1140pm at http://www.travelblog.org/North-America/Canada/Nova-Scotia/Halifax/blog-213296.html One wedding and the final summer sun Summer is sadly drawing to an end. The leaves are starting to turn and fall. Days are getting shorter. Last week saw Charlotte doing red eye flights to London Ontario shame it wasn't London England Starting work at 1am and being smiley at the other end is hard work. However this week saw some time at home and a beautiful sunny week in Vancouver. There was also one special day.
