BACK ON LAND So yeah.. It’s been a while, times fly by down here. Maybe time for an update. The middle of May, while M was going to do a steam course Divemaster, C was already to start the training on the liveaboards with the one and only trainer of the company: Ahmed. Just before he was going out for his first 6-day trip we decided to move again to another apartment, but this time in another building. Because it’s one thing to not have a proper working aircon in more then 40˚C, but when the smell hanging around the apartment is irresolvable, the worn out furniture doesn’t attract to be seated on, the merciless mosquito’s have their mind set on sucking every last drip of blood out of your body and the cockroaches start running ... read more

Just arrived and what can we say… no more moschilla. Day1: From the second a drunken Anders picked us up, he threw us in to our new apartment that his girlfriend Jane hooked us up with. So that was sorted! Being Anders birthday the following day, we spent that night drinking at his favorite bar and at another dodgy Dutch bar in the small hours. Day2: Michelle makes an Italian wetsuit tailor scratch his head when ordering a custom made wetsuit with a Bruce Lee design. That will be a beauty, wait for those photos. Day3: We get a job with the most prestigious live aboard company in Egypt. After M is done with her training, MiniCloud will have their own boat, cruising the red sea! Later this day, we moved to our second apartment, one ... read more

Petra had always been a place in the back of our minds for many years. A famous old city in the Middle East, carved out into rocks. Cool to see one day, but nothing that would really get out of our way for… So getting there, without too many expectations, that place was really impressive! Built by the crafty Nabataeans 400 years before Christ, it’s referred to Sela in the bible and today most known from Indiana Jones III. The entrance to the city begins with walking in to a narrow canyon within huge rocks. In the old days there were big statues and arches along the whole way which is over 1.5km long, with aqueducts on both sides leading water to the city. When we well reached the city, the first sight of it ... read more

TIP: the way to travel from Tel Aviv to Hurghada The first plan was to go Petra in Jordan on our way down from Tel Aviv to Egypt. But considering dragging around the big dive gear bag we thought it to be a better plan to first go to Hurghada (with a stopover in Dahab for a night or two, for old times sake) settle down there a bit, and then go back to Jordan whenever we need a holiday from Hurghada. We had already spoken to the Egyptian embassy in the Netherlands and in Sweden, but to be sure we'd called one more time to the department in Tel Aviv to see if there would be no problems to cross the border from Israel to Egypt in Taba. But with our European passports this ... read more

So here's a bit about the rest of our days spent in Tel Aviv. Actually we've been mainly chillin’ out in the house, cause after an hectic depart from Amsterdam and the first two days straight hardcore excursions in Israel we felt quite tired and needed some time out. Guy's house was an excellent place for this, our own ;) room with internet connection, loads of DVD's around, food, tea, coffee, what else do we need. Guy had to get back to work on Monday again, came home only around 20.30, an 11 to 12 hours workday seems pretty normal over there… So most of the days, he found us lazy at home, while he had just worked his ass off in his lawyers’ office. Not that we've been just a couple of numbs 4 ... read more

Said Humous in Akko, a place to never forget Guy en Morit had decided not to come with us to the south to Petra, so we decided to stay a day or two more to spent their weekend together on Friday and Saturday. Instead we went to the north, to the old town of Akko. Quite some history in this town, It's been in hands of Alexander the Great, the Egyptian Ptolemites, the Syrian Seleucids, the Arabs, the Crusaders, the Mamluks, and Al-Jazzar, who's decrees shaped the Old Akko as it exist today. These days the Old Akko is left in the Arab hands by the Jews. It's a beautyfull little town at the Mediterranean Sea, still surrounded by city walls. After a few hours drive from Tel Aviv, the first thing Guy took us ... read more

Masada & The Dead Sea The work week here in Israel starts on Sunday, but Guy had taken an extra day off to spend time with us. Early wake-ups still not being one of our favourites, so Guy had to drag us out of bed, again hehe... It was a couple of hours drive to Masada, situated at the bottom part of the Dead Sea. The story Masada tells is about fleeing Jews who captured Masada, a stronghold built on a free-standing plateau high above the Dead Sea. Around 1000 people lived here and resisted the Romans. Finally the Romans figured out a way to take over stronghold. By building a big ramp all the way up to the plateau (!). Seeing the end was near, the jews who didn't want ... read more

10.15 The plan of waking up early for a whole day of excursion had failed! Guy woke us up after a long sought after sleep, with a knock on the door asking us if we were awake, a humble host's way of saying 'Get your lazy asses up!' So, we got up to a late start, where we were first introduced to Guy's lovely girlfriend Morit, that was coming with us for the day in Jerusalem. After a quick shower and breakfast we were on our way. From Tel Aviv it is only 40 min to Jerusalem by car, so it went pretty quick. The first impression of Jerusalem, driving through the suburbs, was the special look of the buildings. They are all made of stone, new or old, they all have the same outside ... read more
