way toooo funny! - From: Vang Vieng - Where Safety Comes To Die
Hey, M. I can't stop laughing at the funny comments in this blog! Boy, you really had alot of dangerous animals to deal with today, huh! It's good you decided against the "happy shakes", I honestly think piranhas, crocs, 'big snakes' the darkness AND 'shrooms go together too well! Thanx for the laughter & keep on rhyming. Hi to Mom... Love Patty

Tube snake - From: Vang Vieng - Where Safety Comes To Die
Sounded like a magical journey in caves and on the river M, until it got dark and then the hairs on the back of my neck started saluting as I thought for sure you were going to have more than tube snake for dinner or be dinner for a critter yourself. Your courage is incredible and you rock! Hi to JJ and happy b.d. too. Calling Heather 2nite to get the scoop. Cheers, d

Hi Merritt, It's been a while since you updated all of us. How about a brief shout to let us all know what's doing. Momma should be there by now. Hope you haven't introduced her to the "weasel coffee " yet. (and don't plan to, by the way!!!) Ron

Purple Rooms! - From: Damn Lucky
Hi Merritt! I am enjoying reading about your adventures. You are Rick Steves and Zagat all rolled up in one! Until today I had no idea the implications of the purple bedrooms I had for all those years. You and Ryan stay safe and have a wonderful time with your Mom. Maybe between now and May 7th you can figure out how to put candles into fried tarantulas! Lots of love, Amy

Flags everywhere & traffic - From: The Adventure Begins
Hi Merritt, just read your blog. Just be careful of the holiday coming up. Flags should go up everywhere throughout the country because of this holiday. The April 30 holiday will have travelers all over the highways from April 30 to May 4, so be careful. People are leaving the city and returning to their homes in the countryside. Take care and good luck.

Great Narrative, M.J. - From: The Adventure Begins
Hi Merritt, I've been in France since Thursday and, alas, have yet to find a vendor offering fried tarantulas and scarabs. Trying to make it through on brie and baguettes but am not sure how long I cqn hold out. ((:-)) Finally found a computer and now have the delightful task of catching up with your blogs since 4/12 while it drizzles away outside. Keep on writing away. Your adoring fans, me among them, can't get enough of your lucid commentary. Stay well and watch your back. Fondly, Ron

April 16th - number next one - hurry - From: The Adventure Begins
Okay Merritt - ending on that note is like discovering that the last couple of pages of a riveting book borrowed from the library have been ripped out, or an exciting dream from which you awake suddenly, never knowing the conclusion... I'll try to wait patiently for the next installment. My god you and Ryan are living on the edge. Kudos. Please stay safe.

Happy New Year! - From: A Bummer Day
Hey Merritt, Just wanted to wish you a Happy, Peaceful & Healthy Khmer New Year! Please, the "food" testing has got to stop, I'm really getting nauseous reading your blogs! Sorry! Don't they have any "real" food there? Anything like McDonald's or Pizza Hut? Haha! I REALLY could NOT survive there, really! The only thing I think I could have eaten would be the sweet rice stick with black beans- [the sticky thing], and fresh fruits & veggies that I have heard of before. Like I said before, I'm not adventurous or brave enough to try different things; too afraid of the unknown! BooHoo Well, at least you're having a good time. Too bad about everything being closed for the New Year. There's always tomorrow! I'm still looking forward to seeing pics, and continuing on the adventure with you; it almost feels like I'm there with you, the way you describe everything in detail, but Thank God I'm NOT!!!! I'll talk to you later. Keep safe! Luv, Patty P.S. I KNOW you'll end up eating the cock roaches...can't wait for that description!

Hey Merritt. I've thought of a good way to help pay for your trip, or at least a few upgrades along the way. Now that you have us all "hooked" or should I say, "tuk-tukked", we would PAY to read your number next one, installments. We'd have to send a fee before we could log on to Merritt's next excellent adventure recap. Sign me up! Please keep on tuk-tukin'. I always knew you were a special kid and now I know you're an exceptional mensch! d

Hey, Merritt! Just spoke with Mom today, and she told us of your adventure. AWESOME!!!! Does she know you say "fuck"? Haha! Mark hasn't read any of your blog yet, but will soon. I think it's fascinating! I WOULD NOT DARE take a trip like that, I'm too afraid of the unknown, espicially the horrible food! STAY AWAY from those "massage parlors"! Keep safe, and healthy, most of all, Have Fun!!! Can't wait till tomorrow to read more, and can't wait for pics! Luv, Patty

merritt's very envious sister!!
wow, you are having too much fun - From: Angkor Wat and Angkor Thom
I wish i were there, and here i am studying for law exams, how sad!! so the prostitutes were male? does that mean they have lots of male prostitution? be careful with mixed drinks, so easy to be drugged. you should only drink things like cans of beer that have not yet been opened, i'm serious!! what are the hotel rooms like, any bed bugs? have you gotten sick yet or do you really have an iron stomach as it seems? are the people really called khmer? I think of that is the horrific regime but didn't know that was what the people were actually called. Are all Cambodians Khmer? You should tip the little girls more, for my sake!! If i were there i would be broke already!!!

sardines! - From: The So-Called 'Fast Boat'
I love the comments about the lack of environmentalism. I always wondered where people go to the bathroom in those situations too. what did people do if they had to pee while on the boat? Yes, some people even breast feed up to age four. I think they especially do it a long time in countries where there is little neutrition and breast milk is supposed to be full of critical vitamins and antibodies. That is so unbelievably scary about what happened to your friend. Has he gone for an AIDS test after maybe being raped? How do so many westerners end up there in Cambodia wandering around? Are there many tour groups?

top 100 south east asian scams!! - From: A Learning Process...
I tried to post a comment before but think it didn't work. So if i am repetative, sorry!! the name of this comment is the title of merritt's soon to be best selling book, written from personal experience!! way to go little brother!! it was very entertaining to read mom and dad's notes to you, the subtext being, we thought we raised a bright boy, who is this totally naive kid!! I still cannot get that thought of duck fetus and insects out of my head, totally disgusting. i hope you brought a toothbrush? what are the toilets like there, and where are you going to wash your clothes? do many people speak english ore are you basically playing charades! still totally envious, but think you would have gotten into less trouble if you had spent your bancock time in that red light district you found, unless maybe more creative scams there too!! still wondering why the guys were feeling you up in that club last night!! I have nothing interesting enough to report, so just looking forward to another entry!!

still freaked out about those bugs and the duck fetus!! - From: A Learning Process...
Wow, merritt has improved. he actually knows now when he is getting scammed. the problem is that he doesn't realize when being scammed is better than sitting in a cheaper taxi for too many hours! but hey, it makes a good story. what is "serfing on the roof"? i would be a little worried too that those guys were stroking your back, what a place. I will have to tell certain friends about it!! maybe you should keep a running tally of how many times you are scammed during the trip. it sounds like you could write a brand new guide book, 100 ways to be scammed in south east asia. i am sure that would be a bestseller!! have you gotten the taste of crickets and duck fetus out of your mout yet? i hope you brought a toothbrush!! and what are the bathrooms like? and how are you going to wash your clothes? have you met many people who speak english?
