| 13th May 2008 Mell | Persepolis - From: Emails from Iran Hello GoodSue :) I have not seen the movie yet. This is the second recommendation I have had for it so I want to see it. I talked with an Iranian guy on the internet. He spent a few years in the US. It is so incredibly difficult for Iranians to get out of Iran. So expensive and so much paperwork. Mel |
| 13th May 2008 goodsue | Persepolis - From: Emails from Iran Mel, have you seen the movie Persepolis, showing now in the US? It's an animated story of an Iranian girl going to Europe. Your blogs reminded me of it. I highly recommend the movie. It's sad that some religions, either fundamentalist Islam, Christianity, Judaism, etc. keep their constituents ignorant and unable to cope in every day western society (or Asian). |
| 4th May 2008 Mell | Iran is a good travel destination - From: Emails from Iran Hello Moj :) There were plenty of good things about Iran. There is a sweet innocence about the people. It is a very relaxing place to travel even for women. Also it is fascinating to experience a totally different culture form the one I come from. The downside is the ever present knowledge in the back of ones mind that the human rights situation in this country is very poor. And being a women travelling in Iran I felt it more because even though the human rights situation effects all Iranians it is worse for women. I highly recommend that anyone who is interested visits Iran. They WILL enjoy it despite everything. Mel |
| 4th May 2008 Moj | Iran - From: Emails from Iran What a sad experience you had in Iran. I am a Iranian-Canadian and went to my French Canadian husband to my home town Isfahan in November 2006 and he still talks about the great time he had there. Was there not ONE good experience you had in Iran? What a shame. Moj |
| 3rd April 2008 Mell | - From: Spring break in Estonia I try not to put myself in the middle of a troubled spot either when I travel Fotopraktica. :D |
| 1st April 2008 fotopraktica | Tallinn - From: Spring break in Estonia Nice travelblog Mel ;) It is nice to read something besides the touristy things to see and do in Estonia ,i was in Helsinki last year when this happened and i was thinking of taking a day trip on one of the ferries to Tallinn but because of the rioting and looting i declined and didn't want to get involved in their domestic problems .It's my golden rule i stay out of other country's affairs it is none of my business ,kind of like the "prime directive" on Star Trek i know it sounds geeky but it is the best thing to do in my humble opinion . |
