Hi!
I am a high school teacher and am making my first trip to Europe (finally!) this summer. My husband and I will be visiting Germany and Austria, as well as a bit of France. We will also be celebrating our 15th wedding anniversary while overseas!

Europe » Austria » Upper Austria » Gosau August 5th 2010

Dave's Updates : Been an awesome and eventful few days. Left Trier a few days ago, stopped at Baden-Baden for a few hours and then went on to Lake Constance. Spent a day there and then drove through about half of Austria to get to Gosau. We're winding down our stay here and this time tomorrow will be at Coburg - about 500 km north. Baden-Baden. Had a blast there. Driving very narrow streets and finding parking was a little nerve wracking. Walked around the town center and had coffee and lunch. Then went on to one of my favorite things on the planet - sauna, steam room, and the like. Baden-Baden is known for it's Roman baths. I chucked my modesty and pride and spent an hour in the co-ed nudie section. Tried not to ... read more

Europe » Germany » Baden-Württemberg » Konstanz August 4th 2010

Hi All, Right now we're in Konstanz on the Bodensee (Lake Constance) getting ready to walk through the old city and then visit the Gardens on an island. We're both a little tired but having a great time! Later today we will be driving on to Austria and the Alps! Will write more when I get a chance to have wifi at a hotel. ... read more

Europe » Germany » Rhineland-Palatinate » Trier August 1st 2010

Dave's Updates : Left Boppard early and drove around for a few hours following the Rhine and Mossel rivers. Had a great lunch in a small tourist town overlooking the Mossel and the vineyards on the other side. My first two hour meal here was annoying, the second charming, and now it's back to annoying and probably going to stay there. The food's a lot better than I thought - it's actually really good and reasonably priced. The Rieslings are really, really good. Took the Autobahn for part of the way to Trier and that was a hoot. Got the tiny little VW up to 205 kph / 127 mph. Still got passed by someone in an Audi that had to be doing at least 160 mph. The VW just didn't have anything left to give. ... read more

Europe » Germany » Rhineland-Palatinate » Boppard July 31st 2010

Dave's Updates : Howdy all. Made it to Germany safe and sound. Got to Frankford airport at 3:30 AM EST, 9:30 AM local time. Got the rental car (VW Polo) and set out to the Rhine River Valley. Stopped at some town I can't remember the name of and got to Boppard at about 4PM. We took a river road most of the way and it was a nice, slow scenic drive through a bunch of small tourist towns. Boppard : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boppard Boppard was great. We walked along the Rhine for an hour or so and then strolled around the town for another hour. We had dinner at a restaurant on the Rhine. The building was over a millennium old. Fish and potatoes for both of us and since we're in the middle of Riesling country, ... read more

Well, I'm here at the Philly airport waiting for our flight to board and so far only one SNAFU. We've packed for a couple of days, and I've checked and rechecked everything. So what's the one thing that I forgot? The folder with the printouts of all our hotel reservations. Oh well, I had them all saved in email, so just an inconvenience. Can't wait to get there--only 8 hours on a plane to get through first!... read more
