Just in case anyone is still checking this, I thought I'd do one more travel update regarding the move to Vermont... and into the new apartment. I do realize it is well PAST June 1st (that being the day I moved in...) but let's just say I was a bit forgetful my first couple weeks or so and then lost my internet. Since returning to the US and getting used to everyday english again, I've slowly also had to get used to a different pace of life- things move a lot slower up here in VT than they do in Paris. I ended my year this way: In a muddled haste of confusing friend drama. In a whirl of dust as suitcases were packed tight. On a sunny afternoon when my neck got too hot from walking with my back to the sun. In a hug, and then another. With one last sketchy frenchman grabbing my arm to tell me "J'aime les filles mignonnes". In one last sunset seen from Pont Neuf. On the metro. With a wee bit of stress. Since I've turned in all my papers, the last several days have been a rush of trying to get all the [View Full Entry]

Once upon a time
Once upon a time
Paris happened. I wore sunglasses.
The best tiramisu in the world can be found on a little street in Paris under a green awning that bears the name "Aux Oliviers". I've had this tiramisu three times now and each was an amazing special occasion- a marker in my Paris experience. Tonight was the third time, and the occasion was the final goodbye dinner for CIEE. Paris has successfully worn through ever single pair of shoes I came with- except one. And when I'm running through the rain at night just trying to get home, I realize that my foot is splashing around in water that is [View Full Entry]

gosh, I wonder what city they're in... that huge poster of the EIFFEL TOWER on the wall couldn't mean anything, could it?
So last night, I was eating dinner downstairs in the kitchen and I started choking. Somewhere within the 10 seconds of choking, a long series of thoughts ran through my head. First off, I realized, or rather remembered that I was entirely alone in the apartment (except for the crazy cat) which meant that I would have to perform the heimlich maneuver myself... which lead to the second thought looking desperately around the kitchen for something to throw myself on that would hit the right point on my stomach so that I could get that baby out. Failing miserably in that [View Full Entry]

That's a happy easter to everyone who loves a good hard boiled egg and chocolate in the morning! I'm sitting here on a gorgeous Sunday with my window wide open wondering what exactly the Easter feast here will entail. I'm under specific orders that the meal starts at 1pm.... huh? Yeah, I have no idea, but ever since she woke up Aldona has been cooking away. Anyway! Before all this exciting anticipation and yummy smells, I had a whole week of amazingness! Mr. Greg rolled on into town- well, flew on into town if we want to be exact- on Tuesday [View Full Entry]

Happy official month of April everybody! It was a warm and sunny 68 degree Monday over here in Paris today... although a painfully long Monday because we didn't get back from our weekend trip until after 9 Sunday night and none of us were ready to go back to class after such an easy going weekend. That being said, I do need to get back in the game tonight... because this is my last week before spring break! But it seemed like a good idea to take a break from the work and share my pictures of La Rochelle. Granted it [View Full Entry]

HELLO HELLO! I'm so sorry this is so late after the actual Liverpool trip. We got back and lo and behold, teachers actually started giving us homework! And then presentations! And then tests! And then papers! And I knew if I decided to take a break from my work and start going through all my pictures and writing about how AMAZING Liverpool was, I'd never finish any of it. Thus, I had to put this off until TODAY! Thursday! And here we are. So, Liverpool. How was it you ask? As I said, amazing. Despite a couple of trip-ups along the [View Full Entry]

After two disappointed days filled with destroyed expectations of promised warm weather and sun, I awoke to sun spilling through my make-shift curtain (actually one of my tapestries from school that made the trip all the way over to Paris with me) this morning and the sinking realization that I would have to spend practically the whole day indoors, seeing as I left all my work for today. Morning was a slow affair but at some point the work-oriented juices in my brain kicked in and suddenly I was scrambling to clean up my room and pulled up all the curtains [View Full Entry]

About two hours away from Paris, your young heroine found herself in the Loire Valley this past Saturday in the town of Amboise. Let's just all clear this up before I say anymore. Everytime I hear "amboise" (as in, the name of the town with castles) I think of "framboise" (the french word for raspberry). So, in all honesty, (and you're probably not at all surprised, I went to Framboise this weekend. Which is what I insisted on calling it and have been calling it for the past 2 weeks. I've called it Framboise so much that by the time we [View Full Entry]
