I am now at Will’s in the south of France! I took the train here on Tuesday and then Will and I headed to a holiday party for international students at his University. We were both expecting a quiet get together for dinner and instead walked in on a raging party with free alcohol and techno music. Surprise! We didn’t partake in any of the extreme activities but did find ourselves munching on some goodies from around the world (I believe everyone was asked to bring a dish from their home country to share). There was sushi and German potato salad with hot dogs and of course lots and lots of delicious tarts and chocolates…needless to say, I was quiet pleased. We only stayed long enough to meet his classmates and fill our tummies and then ... read more

I haven’t had internet access for long enough to write or upload pictures for the last few days, hence the absence of posts. Instead I just kept a blog as I went on my computer, so you will see the first couple of entries are backdated a bit. We chatted about my time in Derry and the disappointment I experienced with the program I was on…he did not seem surprised by my issues with the University. I wrote a letter about my dissatisfaction, and Jim said he would pass on to the heads of school in hopes to get something changed around here…I won’t hold ... read more

I'm back in Derry! It has been a crazy busy week so far. I arrived in Dublin Monday morning and Aimee, my friend from Derry that I backpacked through Eastern Europe with, met me at the airport. We went to her place in Dublin and showered and ate and then caught the bus to Derry. I was completely exhausted so I slept the whole way, which was good because I was expected to go to the Union for Manic Monday that night! We all got ready and headed out and I enjoyed myself one or two (or three...or four...) Magners. Oh how I have missed my Irish cider! On Tuesday I sat in on a Self, Identity & Conflict class taught by Jim Skelly, a professor of mine from Juniata. This is the first time I ... read more

I’m writing this from our lovely hostel in New York City…and by lovely I mean I cannot believe I’m paying $100 a night to stay in a place that I feel I need to disinfect before I sleep. Such is the life of a poor college student. Our train ride up here was an adventure…the lady behind us talked (loudly) on her cell phone for a good hour about a lot of personal stuff I did not need to hear. Approximately 10 minutes after the woman hung up her cell phone, a young man (probably my age) sat down next to an older man in the seats in front of us. The young guy did not shut up for five hours. FIVE HOURS. He just talked and talked and talked and everything that came out of ... read more
