Hi everyone. Just wanted to ask for happy and healthy thoughts to be sent to my part of the world. I woke up in the night wheezing and during class this morning I was sick to my stomach. The doctor thinks it’s bronchitis or even early pneumonia. He’s not sure why I threw up, but if it happens again they will run more tests and I will be quarantined (they have to quarantine people with catch-able diseases because we’re on a boat & the country won’t let us dock if more than 20 people are sick). I wrote this blog a couple of days ago and of course we haven’t had internet access, so I wasn’t able to post it. After a night on the boat, we left on the shuttle to Bangkok at 10am. We arrived in Bangkok around noon and found a taxi to the bus station. At the bus station we found a Dunkin Donuts and I was one happy girl. I've been craving a donut for 2 weeks and I seriously ate 4 jelly filled sugar donuts. Disgusting, I know, but it was delicious! Just a quick note to let everyone know we're in Kanchanaburi, Thailand. The Burma border is closed to Amerians right now, so that is out. I don’t even know how to describe my first two days in Thailand. Amazing, thrilling, breath taking and gorgeous are the first words that come to mind. We left the boat Wednesday morning at 10 and wandered outside to 95 degree heat. 95 degrees is hot, but when you take into consideration that a week ago it was below freezing, 95 is REALLY hot. 22 January 2008 11:30 pm Sorry I haven’t written in so long…we have been SO busy! They also changed our satellite so we were without internet for 4 days. The horror! I am two hours away from sailing to Thailand. I'm at an internet cafe again trying to catch up on some school work. Oh, Shanghai. There is so much to tell and only an hour of internet time to type... Our first day in town I puttered around with my friend Nathan. We basically wandered aimlessly around town, but managed to get a great view of the skyline and find Nanjing road which is the shopping mecca of Shanghai. That is right we are FINALLY in Shanghai! We got in yesterday morning after two useless days at sea. Ive never been so glad to see land in all my life! Just wanted to let everyone know we're still stuck on the boat. When I look out the window I literally cannot see anything but fog. We will most likely be here another day or two and will miss Shanghai all together, or will be there only for a day. Spirits on the boat are getting low, although staff are doing their best to keep us entertained. We've had a competition of relay races, scavenger hunts and pub quizzes today and tomorrow we will start classes again.
