Union Jack flew today - Queen was not in residence
Today was a trip to Windsor castle, the last of our stops around England. I'd been to Windsor nine years ago, and as soon as I got onsite the memories all came wafting back in. I was dissapointed that you could not take pictures everywhere. St. George's Cathedral in particular. This cathedral is extremely detailed, and is worth checking out. There are some kings and queens burried there, with fantastic tombs. There is a regular church service, and the guides are more then willing to give you any information you request. The changing of the gaurd ceremony takes place every day [View Full Entry]

Brookwood Military Cemetery was originally established during WWI as a place to bury those who died from war wounds in hospitals in the London area. Being on a military trip we decided to incorporate it into our visits list, and I'm glad we did. The cemetery is very big...there are service personal from numerous nations burried there. Despite it's location near Brookwood, the grounds are quite tranquil. The landscaping alone would be worth the visit. Everything is so well kept. We only had fourty minutes to walk around, and I was not able to graze far from the Canadian graves. I [View Full Entry]

Today was a day trip to Portsmouth, located in south England. The main attractions in Portsmouth include the historic naval dockyard, and the Spinnaker Tower, which is a huge landmark offering a fantastic view. The naval dockyard was worth a visit if you are interested in anything navy or history. There were naval displays from past and present. The site offered access to two ships, as well as three musems. Leeds Castle Yet another castle to cross off the list, Leeds Caste in England is not far from London, and offers a very scenic grounds. It is a nice place to visit, however if you are traveling with kids they may become bored after thirty to fourty minutes. The castle itself is loaded with artwork, yet I found the grounds to be my favorite part. They have an area seperate the castle which includes a falcon display, and a maze, which I highly encourage yourself to get lost in. SPOILER ALERT: You will get lost. [View Full Entry]

London! My second trip to the city of London, but this time I was not bound by the will of a travel group. Two and a half days to roam free where I pleased. Here are some pictures and reviews of the places I did encounter: Hard to visit London without seeing the bridge. I walked across the bridge itself, and for 12 pounds you could go atop on a tour. Not wanting to spend too much I elected not to take the tour. On one side of the Thames River after London Bridge is City Hall. If you go there [View Full Entry]

Atop this rampart is the most commanding view over Dover.
Landed at Heathrow and checked into the place I'll be residing at for the next month while here in merry 'ole England. Very nice place, a lot of history on the walls...pictures of teams dating back to as far as 1871. I was sent over from Canada as part of the advance party, so I got to check out the Dover area before the team arrived. One thing that I was surprised by was that you can see France from the cliffs of Dover. That must have made Dover very nervous during WWII... The first stop in Dover was the train [View Full Entry]

EURO TRIPPING - 2008 I was fortunate enough to be sent to England for a month-long assignment. While in England I had the oppertunity to see various sites from around the country. At the end of my month-long work term I have two weeks of leave, allowing me to travel about the continent, where ever I please. Although my plans are not final, I am looking into seeing the following countries: France Belgium Switzerland Netherlands Leitchenstein Germany Austria Not saying I'll actually get to all of those countries, but I intend to see as much as I can! BOOKINGS MAD [View Full Entry]
