| 4th December 2009 Ray | Congratulations to you both - From: Ushuaia - the end of the road Chris and Max - just wanted to drop a note to say congratulations, I have followed your blog with great interest, it was wonderful reading and fantastic pictures. Have a safe trip back and hopefully someday I can get more stories in person when I'm back in the UK - all the best - Ray.... |
| 1st December 2009 Richard | Sod the penguins - From: Ushuaia 2 - a penguin postscript 20000 miles, endless pictures of mountains, now a few penguins - not a single fishnet or leather microskirt. I hope you're happy. |
| 29th November 2009 jo | Is that it?? Ill miss the stories!! - From: Ushuaia 2 - a penguin postscript Hi guys What a fantastic trip - where next???? Always a new adventure to plan, when one finishes Great job and glad you are all in one piece. Look forward to seeing you in the flesh! Love and hugs Jo and John |
| 29th November 2009 jo and john | Chivvverssssss - From: Getting even more Chile... Blimey - bad enough in a car - but a good test of the bike skills in snow. Hope you are both well and that you stay safe for the last few legs. Amazing pictures of the lake and icebergs - good for big G & Ts!! Love to both XX |
| 29th November 2009 denidax | congrats! - From: Ushuaia - the end of the road Well done guys!!!! I loved riding along with you... |
| 28th November 2009 Phil Pitt | Penguins - From: Ushuaia 2 - a penguin postscript Fantastic - what a great odyssey - it's been fun to follow. That scenery and wildlife reminds me of the Falkland Islands. It's a shame you can't get over there for the contrast |
| 28th November 2009 darrell | - From: Ushuaia - the end of the road Great trip, it's been interesting reading about it. |
| 27th November 2009 Sophia Robb | Jealous, jealous, jealous.. - From: Ushuaia 2 - a penguin postscript I haven't had enough of photos of large bodies of water and mountains yet, so please keep posting pictures for all of the remaining miles (just in case you were thinking of sticking your booted feet up). And I'm sure it feels like the end of the road, but any other year, a trip from Ushuaia up to the heady Lovely Airs would feel like an adventure. Or just another adventure, from your perspective! Oh, and Slough still looks crap, even on a sunny day. The view is possibly being traded for Luxembourg next year (one of those pointless, boring Benelux countries, as it was described recently on the News Quiz, but nevetheless beats Slough). Come back safely and having necked some great Argentinian reds (leave the interpretation of that up to you) Sophia xxx |
| 27th November 2009 Johnny Morris | Tierra del Solent - From: Ushuaia 2 - a penguin postscript Did the penguins speak to you at all? Did you eat any of them, in the vein of your previous guinea-pig-kebab? There's an amusing Carlsberg ad doing the rounds again, with a penguin playing ping-pong - sort of like Stoz's "Isotonic Lager" - that I'll send you. And it looks exactly like the Isle of Wight - but with penguins instead of Cowes. I'll get my coat... |
| 27th November 2009 Charlie | Nice one - From: Ushuaia - the end of the road Well done on finishing the journey south and enjoy the final leg after which luxury awaits... See you for some real beer in UK soon Charlie |
| 27th November 2009 Shadow Man | Thanks for sharing - From: Ushuaia - the end of the road What a great ride. Thanks for taking the time to post your adventure. What is next? Alec |
| 27th November 2009 Stephen | Wow - From: Ushuaia - the end of the road Wow. Can't wait to see you. |
| 26th November 2009 Bird | You've only gone and done it! - From: Ushuaia - the end of the road So pleased for you both...although I think it a little selfish to finish and thereby deny me (us) of your wit and amazing photography of parts of the Earth I'm unlikely ever to venture to...can't you stay a bit longer (notwithstanding, Kendal, that I miss you!). Can't wait to catch up. It really looks like it was the trip of a lifetime. And you're still together! ha ha. Love ya, see ya, byeee (thanks for reminding me C) B xx |
| 26th November 2009 anonymous | - From: Ushuaia - the end of the road Hi Chris and Max. I have really enjoyed your adventure thanks for sharing it with me. Enjoy the time you have left. Get in touch Chris when you get back. Take care both of you. Susan x |
| 26th November 2009 Ludo | The end of the world/road - From: Ushuaia - the end of the road A brilliant and unforgettable achievment - pity the end of the world does not have an apocryphal medieval chasm you can look over. It looks a bit like lots of other places. We are all looking forward to seeing you back - thank you Chrissie so much for my birthday call and message. So sorry to have missed you. I was in Dublin for my birthday. Much love Ludo xxx |
| 26th November 2009 Ant | Congratulations! - From: Ushuaia - the end of the road Congratulations to you both. I look forward to hearing some of the stories first hand. I'm sure you have had an amazing adventure. We have enjoyed following your progress, so thanks for the effort you put in to the bloggs . Safe trip home. Love Ant, Helen & Jamie xx |
| 26th November 2009 Pete | - From: Ushuaia - the end of the road The end of the world looks fantastic Maximus. Safe journey back to BA. nice to speak to you early. bye for now |
| 26th November 2009 Gerard O'Donoghue | Well done to you both - From: Ushuaia - the end of the road Hi Christine and Max, Well done to you both, fantastic achievement. Thanks too, for all of your postings from start to finish. Both the narrative and photos have proved superb reading and viewing. Hope you have a super time doing some R&R and hope your trip back to the UK is incident free. I look forward to seeing you both some time in the New Year. Kind regards, Gerard |
| 26th November 2009 matt | you're a long way from home... - From: Ushuaia - the end of the road ...and you've definitely earned a few days in the pleasuredome. Congratulations on the whole trip, it has looked amazing -- and thanks for the vicarious thrills. I'll be raising a glass to you this evening -- bottoms up! Hope to see you both soon. x |
| 26th November 2009 Carolyne | LOVE YA, SEE YA, BYYYYEEE - From: Ushuaia - the end of the road Chris & Max... Well, it's been a delight reading your travelblog and thanks for sharing your journeys with us! Always puts a smile on my face when I get your email, in this dull and dreary office.... Great to hear that you've had a great time and a safe time also. We miss you here Ms Davidson! Enjoy the rest of your days out there in the other side of the Atlantic! Love ya, see ya, bye. x |
| 23rd November 2009 Simon Cowell | Chile willy? - From: Getting even more Chile... Well, you think you've had it tough: it was very windy and rainy on the Isle of Purbeck this weekend, I'll have you know, although there's no sign of the Swanage glacier yet for this year. Did you happen to go anywhere near Puerto Prat, or Canal Cockburn? Poor Chris. Go safely: not far now! |
| 22nd November 2009 anonymous | - From: Getting even more Chile... Can't believe your nearly at the end of your trip! It's been really great following you both. Enjoy the final part of the journey. Take care. Susan xx |
| 22nd November 2009 Shadow Man | Let me ask ... - From: Getting even more Chile... I have several questions ... 1. are y'all crazy? I sure hope y'all have heated gear!! 2. Poor Chris ... what happened? 3. what kind of bike are you traveling on? Ride safe, Alec PS ... I am planning a ride to Mrytle Beach monday ... a lot warmer there and old 300 mile round trip ... meeting friends for lunch. |
| 20th November 2009 Sophia Robb | - From: Getting even more Chile... Tell Chris that he can open his eyes as his face seems to have come off better than the front end of his bike. Poor chap - hope someone offered him a lift on the back of their bike the rest of the way. Glad that you are both still in one bit. The scenery certainly is spectacular when visible. Oh - and ask Simon about his glacier trek on which they didn't actually see any... Love to you both Sophia x |
| 20th November 2009 rich | - From: Getting even more Chile... Are you Ewan McGregor in disguise? Looks pretty hardcore but amazing. I'm predicting that you won't ever want to get rid of the Beemer when you return. Does it have a name yet? Give a 'big respect' to Christene. She has done amazingly well to still be with you (actually we haven't seen any pictures of her for a while? She is with you isn't she? Have a fantastic final coundown and enjoy the Argentine Bubbly at the finish line. Allez Allez! Rich |
| 20th November 2009 Alison | - From: Getting even more Chile... Glad to hear you are still all in one piece. Looking forward to seeing you - although I'm sure you're not really looking forward to seeing us... its ok we wont take offence! |
| 20th November 2009 matt | ice ice baby - From: Getting even more Chile... Amazing stuff, guys. That glacier is awesome. I can't quite believe you've only got a week to go -- it seems to have gone by in the twinkling of an eye. Enjoy the final leg and try not to get too cold. Do they do jugs of Pimms in Ushuaia? |
| 20th November 2009 simon | Restaurant at the end of the Universe - From: Getting even more Chile... I can't believe you're so close to the end of the trip. The photos and blog have been inspiring. One thing worries me - isn't it supposed to be summer over there? I can't remember if Max is a fish-eater, but if you both like fish and seafood then here is a recommendation for you in Ushuaia. It's expensive for Argentina, but worth it to celebrate getting there. It's called Kaupe. kaupe 'dot' com 'dot' ar/ should get you salivating. Really fab wines too - the best that Argentina has. What date are you back in the UK? |
| 7th November 2009 Shadow Man | The Hand - From: Getting a little Chile (and a little Argentina) That was really cool. Sounds like your friend really needs some help with his bike. Ride Safe .. ... Alec |
| 6th November 2009 Jim Magilton | Watch Out, Watch Out... - From: Getting a little Chile (and a little Argentina) Commander Brian and Margaret are about... Last reported leaving Rio for Buenos Aires...I think Margaret had had to drag Brian away from the Rio throng/thong (?) ...not for the first time, we sigh! |
| 6th November 2009 Charlie | How much more? - From: Getting a little Chile (and a little Argentina) I'm not sure how much more of this I can take. The envy, yearning and desolation of the rain here versus the stunning series of photos there... For your next post, can you tell us all about the crap bits to make us feel better about our lives? You lucky, lucky bas%^rds - looks like the trip of a lifetime. Until the next one... Chuck |
| 5th November 2009 anonymous | - From: Getting a little Chile (and a little Argentina) Is that a little spanish hair cut I can see there... y'know the style - bowl over the head look... or is the excuse the 'helmet hair style'!! The office is missing you - even Robin needed you to day as it took him over half an hour to tighten up his handle bars!! Hasta leugo amigo... |
| 5th November 2009 Sophia Robb | In vino veritas - From: Getting a little Chile (and a little Argentina) Seems extraordinary that you are on the "last" stage. You can take some comfort in the fact that it is nevertheless more travelling time than your average wage slave has over an entire year, but must be strange. At least you know there is some great wine waiting for you at the end of the road (and Max, like the guinea pig, the steaks must be eaten, even if only one). Really appreciate the blogs and the pictures, even if I don't say so often enough. The view from here? Welll, I can see a power station, the Colnbrook incinerator, Windsor Castle, tower blocks and endless housing estates. I rather like the fact that the Queen gets to look at all of the above but without the castle and with an additional tower block. Sometimes life is fair. Stay safe and enjoy your travels Sophia x |
| 4th November 2009 Camilla B | I'm in Santiago too! - From: Getting a little Chile (and a little Argentina) Hey Chris, just seen you're in Santiago and we got here yesterday too! But moving onto Mendoza tomorrow then we haven't quite worked out the rest of our SA itinerary but probably down to the south of Argentina, probably following you! Looking forward to going back to the office?! Camilla x |
| 4th November 2009 matt | - From: Getting a little Chile (and a little Argentina) That lake's a bit of a stunner. I'd guess it was a bit nippy for a skinny dip, but after your arctic adventures that shouldn't be an obstacle. |
| 4th November 2009 anonymous | - From: Getting a little Chile (and a little Argentina) Hi Chris and Max looks great there the hand looks a bit out of place though! Bet you loved the attention on the back of the bike Chris when being escorted by the Police!. Weather wet here very envious of you both. Take care. Susan x |
| 4th November 2009 Dale Winton | - From: Getting a little Chile (and a little Argentina) Get your hair cut, Max, it's a disgrace to the Chilean police force. |
| 4th November 2009 Simon | Motorcycle Diaries - From: Getting a little Chile (and a little Argentina) Stunning scenery - blue and dry. Everything here now is brown and wet. Now you're in Argentina I think Max should have another attempt at eating animal flesh. Surely it's time to have a proper steak to soak up all the Malbec you'll be applying to your dry throats? |
| 4th November 2009 Darrell | - From: Getting a little Chile (and a little Argentina) love the desolate scenery |
| 4th November 2009 anonymous | - From: Getting a little Chile (and a little Argentina) Hi Max, Great stories, great pics, whilst i am stuck in the office whenever your blog turns up, i feel like the little one in fraggle rock reading postcard sent in by uncle mac, i think that was what he was called. |
| 31st October 2009 JO | Oh mummy! - From: Peru - a funny old place Hi guys, good to catch up, Im a bit behind my blog reading (back at work again and in the thick of it- booo...). Great to see you guys looking so chilled and in the swing of the adventure. Max think the mummy look suits you - great job chris. A technique that could be useful in future eh? Johns on the mend, which is fab and says Hi to you both. Take care out there - Joxx |
| 25th October 2009 Johannes & Jude | wish we were there! - From: Peru - a funny old place Hi Max and Christine We have been avidly reading your most enjoyable bloggs as we continue our journey from Anchorage to Ushuaia- we are now in Mexico and quite a long way behind you! Can you please give us some information about how you crossed the Darien Gap - ??see you in Ushuaia?? we are also interested in which group you are travelling with ? Jude & Johannes |
| 23rd October 2009 Shadow Man | Very Good - From: Peru - a funny old place I hope to one day make a journey like yours. Enjoyed reading this. Ride safe. Alec |
| 22nd October 2009 matt | - From: Peru - a funny old place Did the brass band play tiddly-om pom pom? |
| 21st October 2009 Madeline Peru | Skeggy, sand, mummies & hats - From: Peru - a funny old place Wonderfully, deeply strange, an "acid trip" segment. And that mummified body *does* have more than the touch of the Bower about it - possibly the hair, possibly the skin tone. I may have to try Photoshopping it onto a bike. |
| 21st October 2009 alison | - From: Peru - a funny old place I agree Peru was not my favourite country... Only like Cuzco really!!! |
| 13th October 2009 Alison | Peruvian Delicacy - From: A short story about Ecuador I can't believe you tried it... when I saw guinea pig for the first time flat on a plate I nearly threw up!!! And you're a fully fledged veggie! Next time for the others please take a photo of arriving on the plate. I was trying to explain to Rich that it looked like something run over on the road - almost cartoon-like. I'm sure the guinea pig felt the same!!! Enjoy Peru... Hope you manage to keep you head as you get to the top - puno! Alison |
| 13th October 2009 Jim Magilton | Short Shrift for Ecuador! - From: A short story about Ecuador I've been looking at a couple of Ecuadorians to shore up my central defence at Loftus Road. Won't bother now you say they're all short-arses. No Ecuadorians amongst your readers I take it?! Guinea pig looked cooked to perfection - I presume Christine finished yours for you! Happy travels, amigos x |
| 13th October 2009 Lisa Raincock | What the *@#! - From: A short story about Ecuador I'm shocked. Surely even Christine would draw the line at roasted guinea pig?! I'm not sure there's anything left to say. Enjoy Peru! |
