Hi Folks! Today is the official beginning of summer in OZ! Yesterday it was 38 c in the shade! Luckily today is down to 26c. I'm staying with my sister's friend Tony in his sweet victorian house and we went to a great cricket function at the Adelaide Oval grounds last night and great speech from Beeefie (i.e Ian Botham). I am also very fortunate to have got complimentary tickets for the test match tomorrow in the Ozie enclosure. Penny (my friend and neightbour) is also here with Michael on a cricket tour of OZ. Off on Sunday to Perth, staying with Barbara, friend of Isa too from Bali days, and then home on Monday. Will arrive in London on 5 December.... read more

Hi Ladies and Gentlemen, boys and girls (as they say in the announcements on Ozie planes)! Arrived in my new YHA hostel in Melbourne last night and my room I'm sure is less well appointed than a prison cell but it will have to do for the next 2 nights. A good travel tip, I'm using a computer completly free of charge at North Melbourne library. Very nice lady here but won't be able to upload photos, sorry. Had a really busy day, went off to the visit the Zoo this morning which is fantastic. The animals have lots of land to roam about and the landscape is laid out according to their natural habitat. So it goes from rain forests to the Australian bush. I had my own private Ozie guide who works there as ... read more

Bonjour tout le monde! Thanks to Gill, Chantal, Ans and Vero for yr last messages, lovely to read them. I'm back on my feet since last Monday when I took my little bus to Lake Wanaka (only 6 hours...) and had a fab time staying with Jacou, a French potter and her son who's lived in New Zealand for 15 years. Wanaka and all the lake region is just awesome and many people come here on hols and end up staying I'm told. I'm not surprised. I did some great walks, some mountain biking and trekked up and down Mount Iron, so you see I'm well fit again! I helped Jacou set up her new pottery shop at her home and we had a party on Wed with a few friends of hers to celebrate the ... read more

Hi Guys and girls, No pictures this time I'm afraid. I think I was having too much of a good time and God in his wisdom struck me with a stomach bug since I arrived in Christchurch from NC 4 days ago. I luckily moved to a backpackers hotel with my own bathroom... I met up with my friend Carol but she carried on her visit of South Island solo as she's not likely to come back soon. Hope to meet up with her again before leaving for Australia on 26 November. Hope also to be fit enough to travel to Lake Wanaka on Monday. It's a 6 hour bus journey with no toilets... Sylvaine, Alizon, Ralph, Chantal, Kerstin (hope I havn't forgotten anyone) thank you so much for your comments on my blog, much appreciated. ... read more

My dear friends and family, Having a wonderful time in New Caledonia and warm at last! After a couple of days in Noumea resting at my brother Marc and Joelle's lovely appartment, we were off camping in the bush! Imagine that, I hadn't been camping since I was 18 years in Ireland! To top it all, we were to go camping in the wild for the 1st 2 days, not even on a camping site. Well I not only survived but loved the whole experience. Marc and Joelle have a landrover with a trailer (they call it their country residence) which Marc equipped with a double bed, cooking facilities, water tank with shower attachment and large ice box for keeping our beers (and food) cold. What else do you need? Going to the loo in the ... read more

Hi everyone! Bonjour tout le monde! Just arrived in Noumea in New Caledonia to visit my brother and I finally can use a decent computer to update this travel blog. So I'm backtracking to New Zealand/North Island and letting you have a glimpse of my wonderful trip there. I stayed in this wonderful house in Birkenhead, an area of Auckland with Christina and David and their cute little new dog called Poppy who just arrived the day before I arrived. The weather was not great, but the welcome I got very warmhearted. After 2 nights at their house, I headed off at 7am on a "magic bus" tour to the Bay of Islands where I stayed for 3 nights in Paihia YHA. I met nice people on the bus and we ended up having drinks and ... read more
