Meeting the other people in my building turned out to be easier and friendlier than I would have thought. We had a knock at the door a few days ago and our neighbors across the hall came and asked if we wanted to have tea. When we came out we discovered that they had intended to ask the whole building so we marched upstairs and went to every door until we got everyone that we could find or had moved in yet. Our neighbors Katy and Ivy were from Ireland but with different backgrounds. Katy is from Tipperery in the south studying medicine and Ivy is originally from Glasgow,Scotland studying art. Today I went to the Sioban McKenna Theater, named after a famous Irish actress, where the four LLMs under the Irish Centre for Human Rights would meet and be introduced to the faculty and courses. Dr. Cavanaugh who manages the overall procedural process said it might be difficult to pick our classes but I knew instantly which I wanted to take. Dr. Murphy the acting Director of the Centre with Professor Schabas retired, had a captivating way of talking and his class on Humanitarian Law was probably the most interesting of the introductory courses besides my own Intro to International Criminal Law. Dr. Shane Darcey who teaches that class was the spitting image of my girlfriend's best friend Ben if his hair was less spiked. Two days ago I began my journey in Ireland. I arrived at 8:30am after a long sleepless flight, relieved to finally put my feet on the ground again. I had spent the last half hour of the flight talking to the guy next to me who was a native of Belfast (capital of Northern Ireland). Along with telling me about backpacking in Montana for six weeks (with various mountain lion, bear, eagle, and wolf sitings) which was just plain awesome, he gave me a heads up about Ireland.
